That was a great presentation. I use the 1604 vlz to bring up sounds in my studio to be monitored and mixed on a 2404. Most engineers agree that the Mackie boards have had and still have the best preamps and transparency than any other board of it's kind. Thanks.
Just chiming in here, manual states right at the beginning that the typical gain staging doesn’t apply with this unit. As soon as you see the red clip light, leave it do not roll back to get best noise floor. Awesome video regardless! Cheers!
Setting your gain. Set fader to ZERO. Set preamp gain to ZERO. Engage SOLO for whichever strip your working with. In the monitoring section of the board (far right) engage the MODE button so that your listening to the PFL (pre fader listen). This bypasses the fader completely. The "RUDE SOLO" and "LEVEL SET" LED's should be lit up. Above the MODE button is your SOLO gain knob for monitoring the input on the solo'd channel.
Is there really no summing or coloring to be gained by using this mixer? Would a soundcraft spirit be better? I had one and it gave me the sound i was after but due to moving i dont really have the space. Although if it is better than i might make the space 😅
is there any ways to connect 4 monitors (2 pairs) and select each time which one to play and which one to mute? Or at least have one switched off and the other playing and vise versa?
....Now increase the input gain on the selected channel until the LOUDEST part of the signal reaches roughly 0db. (Only the left side of the meter will be in use). Disengage MODE button to AFL (After Fader Listen), Disngage SOLO on slected channel. Repeat for all channels in use. Proceed to mix the band using FADERS knowing that all gain staging is set to proper levels. Insert and set your Master Bus Compressor and EQ into MAIN INSERT. Proceed to rock out. GAIN STAGING IS CRUCIAL BOB READ MANUAL
Next time you make a video, please mix your voice higher than your background music. Very annoying that I could barely understand you on a video I'm attempting to learn from. Much appreciated.
save the money and get a decent desk for mixing. There is no sonic advantage if you use this desk for mixing like in homestudios or the "analog summing" ppl.

Thank you for explaining the workings to us. Well done.

Decent video but you could have picked better music, my God. It sounds like a 70's video game gone haywire!!!
Friend, you should shave before making a presentation like this. And... get some sleep!
Nice mixer, though. I have the board and I like it.
