What an amazing beautiful car and combo. Ray is one of the nicest people I ever met and a walking Ford encyclopedia. I love your interviews explaining stock/superstock rules and combos. A lot of people don't know about the classes. Thanks Evan!
Talked to both Nick and Ray at a meet. Really nice people. They gave me all the time I wanted. Asked about the engines and their set up. They were more than happy to share with a Ford guy what they did. It was a great conversation. Both of them were going rounds that day and running very well. Love both their cars and wish them both the best.
Awesome! I remember watching the Probe wheel stand off the line. Nick has got a mean little racecar! It's great to see Father and Son teaming up to get it done!
One very nice hotrod Evan. 9's on motor is really moving for a full body Mercury. My Mustang only went 10.70 @130.18 on all-motor and similar weight, due to the tight 10" N2O convertor and 4.30 gearing. I wonder what it would have done with a 6,600 rpm-stall convertor and a 5.67 gear?
What a nice looking Capri, and fast! Good to see Mercury being appreciated by racers and collectors as well. That '64 1/2 Mustang was gorgeous...Looking forward to see the 289 Probe and maybe his daughter' Foxbody.
I am amazed at the horsepower that they are getting out of a small block. It's awesome to see them run. I have two for the street. One on the road now with a 289 and a second 65 Mustang with a 302 and automatic going together.
Hi Evan! Really enjoyed this one. Amazing builds and such an attention to detail, wow. Hats off to Ray and Nick. So time for me to go out and Monkey around with my 67 Mustang 460. Cheers from Motown/Dearborn.
Pretty amazing to see you all today vs meeting you back in the late 1980's @ Englishtown. Nick was just a toddler then. I was with Competition Cams then. Best wishes in future racing endeavors!
WOW!...BACK IN THE DAY, I USE TO OWN A 85 MERCURY CAPRI 5.0L RS 5SP!...THE OWNER I BOUGHT IT FROM HAD REPLACED THE STOCK BUBBLE HATCHBACK WITH THE MUSTANG SVO DUAL REAR SPOILER HATCHBACK!...I AM JUST SAYING!...GOD BLESS AMERICA! 🇺🇸 😇
Hello Evan you always bring the best videos the best people and the best cars and I also think you're one of the best on UA-cam thanks for taking time to share with us, love to see you make a quarter mile pass down at the track in one of these cars if possible in a future video
What a clean car in and out.Love the dash and the color scheme on the interior.Looking good is almost as important as going fast, well it is to me as a race fan.
LOVE the sound of high rpm small blocks more than anything in the world! SBC, Ford, or whatever... when they get up above 7,500ish, they start to sound reeeeeally cool!! ...and the idle that goes along with such a motor sounds great, too! Wish I had a ton of money... lol I'd build a big horsepower and rpm n/a motor for my car again. Valvetrain and things get really costly and need constant maintenance, when you start spinning those kind of rpms
Now days, people, think “capri” is a foil pouch full of fruit juice with a straw sticking out one side. Great video. I remember when, in my neck of the woods, Fox body Capris were fairly common although most were 4-cylinder powered. Oh how we took the for granted…. Nice car. 289 Probe - what they should have come with.
Ford guys running small tires in Super Stock...love it! Just like Calvert who makes cal-tracs! I agree why push a big tire if you can make a smaller one work. An SS/AA car might be a little different but from C down i believe the smaller tire is the way to go. Im not a Ford guy but love this channel. This episode has made me want to research the possibility of a competitive SS Olds because that's my thing. Right now im hung up on a 400 inch 1967 Olds 442 Super Stock combo. The 400 will reliably turn way more rpm than a 455... Love this interview its been informative and this guys enthusiasm makes anyone wanna go race!
Didn't know you could adapt and use CO2 to shift a classic Turbo Action Cheetah shifter! I still got one and love it, when the time comes im gonna do what this guy is doing.
Sorry, I misread your question, Tom. This combination fits NHRA GT/MA (which is the weight I responded to). At this point, to run traditional Super Stock, we would have to construct a 1985 302 - not a bad idea!
so 5.67 gear. 2.92 first 9x30 stocker tire with a ladder bar and a 7 inch 6400 converter. love it,.... the 68 mercury combo is a lifesaver for the fords
You bet. The parts scramble that made the J code 230 HP legal with Holley 600 cfm 1850 because, for one year, it was the base for what was, eventually the 1968 approx 250 HP Shelby GT350 engine. Shelby got retrospective certification for the Buddy Bar Cobra high-rise and a 1850 Holley carb were smog-approved. So a J code is a 230 hp Gross factory, one year only base, with a very gracious freedom. 🥝✔️
Yes I owned one at one time, blue 68 Cougar. Great motor those J codes. That is one I wished I kept. I sold the car to someone that parted the motor and ditched the car to put the motor in a 68 fastback Mustang.
@@deanstevenson6527 I recently sold my 68 GT with the J-Code 302. It had enough oats to make it fun to drive, but it wasn't anywhere near as healthy as the 67 GTA 390 that was my first car....but the small block sure handled a heck of a lot better. The GTA handled like a Roman chariot....
@@deanstevenson6527 The '68 Falcon GT's had a 230hp badge on 'em if I recall, but ony had the lame Autolite 4300 @ 441 cfm. Might have won Bathurst if they had a huge 550cfm of Holley !!

Really impressive how much power can be made with tiny valves in a tiny engine. Details matter.
Indeed they do, thanks for watching.
He is running afr renegades heads 165/185's not factory anymore.
I’m glad to see old school racers still can compete

Love Capris! Awesome paint job.
Great to see good amilies racing together.
So much knowledge and history.
I still love class racing. Stock, SS, Comp, Pro Stock. Lots of ingenuity and thrashing
Thanks for the Scardelli interview, being a “has been” 289 S/S Guy I have always admired Ray and his accomplishments.

Pretty cool that it looks like a fox body mustang...I didn't know much about this car until after seeing this video...V8 hatchbacks are sick...😊
Bubble hatch and the hood vents on the Capri, Too Cool. which I had on my 83....
Great interview, Evan.
Great to learn about the car. As a 79 Mustang owner with whopping 136 HP it's astounding what these nice folks achieve.

cool cat ray is a legend
Great video. I always loved stock and super stock. What does it have to weigh to race in ss/ma?
Minimum is 2,930 lbs with driver so safely 3,000 across the scale.
2930 - nhra class designation is 12. Times the Rated hp of 230 hp + 170 for the driver
Sorry, I misread your question, Tom. This combination fits NHRA GT/MA (which is the weight I responded to). At this point, to run traditional Super Stock, we would have to construct a 1985 302 - not a bad idea!

Very cool wonder how much power it makes
I wish we had more outlets for the need for speed up here in Canada . They're so few and far between 😢
10.12 off an 11.20 index? Damn Baggin' It!
I realize it's the legal carb(s) . What are the CFM ratings ,,, ?
I might suggest that if you work hard and take advantage of the NHRA rules, 550 - 585 CFM should be attainable.
Awesome
even has the bubble hatch!
