Harlem African Market

Best places to go in NYC for tourist type shopping. Don't buy your t-shirts in Times Square, YOU'LL GET RIPPED OFF!! Go to the African Market in Harlem on 116th street. Take the 2 or the 3 train and its right there at the 116th street stop. Step inside and shop. T-shirts are available from Binta and she gives pretty great bargains.
After shopping take yourself to Red Rooster. The service is horrible, really it is, but the food is good and it is very historic so you get to see loads of great pictures and artifacts from the Old NY. They do like to class people, which totally sucks. I bet after the meet more of us South Africans, they will change their very unbecoming approach.
Other places to hit in the area, Sylvia's. Great service, great food! Also very historic. Lennox Lounge, it is a shebeen and I love it, always fantastic music. Harlem Social, very new but trendy. Native, a very nice and small local bar.
All these places are on Lennox between 116th and 130th street.

I haven't been here in years! I still have my earrings and my Dolls that I bought years ago. I moved out of state, so I miss that place. I'm Glad this African Market is still there.

Grew up in the area. Took the things and the culture for granted. All the Love of my people was in my backyard. Now I’m in Jersey but longing to find some African products. Will go there soon. 😊
