This is absolute golden. I’m in my backlog season and I’m trying to get out of burnout. Literally sat down to edit and I feel like it’s a learning process alll over again. Mental exhaustion really kills creativity. This was a good refresher. Thank you!

My favorite tip for speeches and the vows is to automaticaly transcribe the audio and make automatic captions (in Premiere). That way you can find so easily the part you are looking for, even with the searchbar in the transcribe section!

wedding video isn’t usually my gig, and even so its been a whiiiile since i shot one. currently editing one for a friend, who is by no means a videographer, so i don't have much to work with and this video really helped my wheels start spinning. from just a cinematic standpoint there are truly some magnificent shots in here, and this video itself is very well made and concise. you are super talented man! thanks for the tips!

Build your story first using moments, then after actively listening to all the audio from the day, use that audio to build the story around the moments. Finally, after finding music that fits the couple and day/weekend/story, cut up the songs you want to use and dance between instrumental and lyrical, and use low passes and hard cuts in the songs to move the story along.

These videos always drop at the perfect time, working out prior to editing and I saw you released this one! Finishing up that first wedding soon and I definitely could've used these tips when I started the edit😅 my tip would be to find music that matches the general vibe/personality of the couple, which you feel out throughout the wedding day, by sampling their wedding playlist, and also thanks to your advice, through a pre-wedding questionnaire. Did this for the wedding I'm currently editing and it allowed me to also shoot with the edit in mind from the answers the couple gave me and have the music hit their peaks at the parts they were most wanting to remember, in this case it was the first look/walking down the aisle. Thanks again for the great video, excited to edit!

Great advice! I would also add that people need to pay attention to ducking their music when people are talking. I see this all the time with wedding films. When the music is too loud when people are talking (speeches, letters, vows etc.) it takes you out of the moment. Make sure you pull that volume down so the voices can be heard clearly and the music becomes secondary at that point. The voices should take center stage. Music should only be there to enhance the story and emotional impact of the film. I also avoid using music where the artist is singing while someone is talking as well as the two voices end up competing and, again, it takes you out of the story. I use both the instrumental and lyrical tracks to a song, cutting between the instrumental for the moments people are talking and using the lyrical parts to enhance the transition and b-roll segments. Everyone's style is unique and you have to find what works for you. Great content thanks for the tips!

MORE FCPX TIPS PLEASE!!! I've been editing on Final Cut for a decade, but it seems like every time you drop a tip or shortcut in your videos it's something new to me that I've never done and I have to write down. 😂

dont use gap clips and get used to magnetic timeline and also use the muliticam workflow not stacked clips that you cant see. you know, to speed up your edit.
