Thanks for a great and genuine review. I have just picked up a new single, which I have had my eye on since getting a ute, and always planned on a King's. As you say, show it some love and it will last for ages. I am planning on using Loctite on everything during assembly, to hopefully save the trouble that some have had. Cheers.
Good review Paul - I have been using a pair of 1800’s for five months now and have impressed me with the durability and reasonable quality for the price. I had to fix a couple of loose nuts and to avoid those cut fingers I got some rubber clamping strips to fit along the sharp exposed drawer edges. For your single drawer you will have sharp edges on the left and right sides of the drawer opening as well so get the strips from Clark Rubber and you will be fine. Yes much better handles now. John in SA.
I have two sets of these in commercial vehicles, one set would go in and out over 40 times a day 5 days a week and still going strong after nearly three years. Like the review said, a bit rough around the edges but tough as nails. For my purpose I bought a second set and would buy them again.
They only last if you go that extra mile with the drawers after loctite to every easy accessible bolt in frame, all those attaching tops & hold down brackets along with the countersunk top ones & the bumper stop bolts as well. Installed the backing plates to the 4 hold down bolts and loctite to those along with the relocation and loctite to the two bolt down channels. Painted the drilled holes and sealed the kings bolts with primer along with the plates once in minimise rust on the cadmium coating far from galvanised class 3. I noted the drawer stoppers leave too much rattle and play in the locks, so I installed two door Lockwood strikers to the bottom latch hole and rivoted with 3/16” countersunk rivots onto the Stainless striker to take up 2-3 mm of rattle. I’ve also offset the drawers to the right allowing approx 300 mm on the left, to install the second battery, and removing wing to the half of said left side and instead only coming halfway with Wing kit keeping End bracket as middle and deleted the middle one. Any ideas on the LED lighting inside the drawer like the high end opposition ones have, to come on automatically? I’m installing a 12v control panel on the left above the battery, be good to incorporate LEDs in the back dark 1/4 sections of drawers when they’re open? Any input appreciated ?
I can't say I ever had any bolts come loose. I cleaned & lubed the tracks & that's all I ever did. You could get a bonnet switch from ebay. It runs through the earth & only turns on the light when the drawer is opened. I used to have one under my bonnet with led strip lights
I have the XTM drawer which I got as present over 12 months ago. The key snapped in the barrel recently and NO locksmith can get the barrel. Both BCF and Supercheap are both lacking in any support to even ask the distributor for any spares. So if your considering getting this product then consider an alternative brand as XTM has NO support for product failures.
Quite often I do get sent the item to test out & review. But I'm always open and honest about what's been supplied & I'll still mention any negatives I find with the product 👍
I tie a 46 kilo outboard on mine. We have a dirty drawer for tools a clean one for non tools and like you say, they are tough as nails. I never thought about it, but the carpet is as good as the day they were put in. It took me 20 minutes to install them in a Nissan Patrol.
Got a twin set today and it has3 roller mounts bent...repairable but annoying. Building a small camper so will probably be used 4 times a year. They are certainly cheap enough and will be a 1000 % better than having stuff stacked up in plastic tubs
My latch gets stuck all the time and the other latch on the double draws for the slide broke. Still really happy for the price tho. Waiting on the drawer table
Sorry to hear that. Mine is great unless it's under pressure. Yeah I was never happy with the fridge slide. They could have made that better. But yeah for the price it's unbeatable 👍
Just a box section I cut in half and placed under each side & bolted it to the floor & drawer. Then put bolts through the dividing wall through the drawer on the side for extra support. Did the same for my upright fridge. I made the supports length ways so I'm still able to store stuff underneath the drawer & fridge
They come with two full width 30-40mm wide c Channels that can be relocated along base of drawers, these could be deleted and replaced with flatter channels to remove height, though leaving as is suits most vehicles I can see where people want closer fitment and promote deletion with alternate four point fixing to vehicle- regardless of method for install through floor, always install large plates under to reduce pullout of these four 4 bolts in extreme impacts.
No sorry. I just bought some box sections the height I needed & just cut to length. If you watch my bushman's fridge installation video I did something similar with the fridge
so I have one question I'm thinking about getting these for the tub of my triton how flexible do you think they are I would like to have them as far back as possible so that there's no gap behind them on the tub and to distribute weight better so just wondering if that's possible and how easy is the install on these I'm here from Ronny dahls most recent live stream where he said you do really good reviews on budget gear which is awesome
Yeah that shouldn't be a problem at all mate. When you pull the drawer out aswell as the cover off you can see the multiple mounting holes. Just drill through the bottom of the tub and bolt it through the tub
@@Campingdownunder yeah legend mate any solution for preventing rust and water going in the holes? im very new to modding 4x4s in general so lots of dumb questions thanks for the help!
There are no dumb questions mate. Anytime you drill a hole make sure you file it to remove any burrs & then use a bit of touch up paint to stop rust. Just before you put the bolts in put a bit of silicone around the hole. Then fit the bolts while it's still wet and it will seal the hole 👍
I wouldn't do it. That rooftop tent is very expensive so you want to ensure it's mounted correctly. I made another video showing how I made it fit on my hilux
have a pair of these in the prado and they rattle terribly. nobody mentions the rattling though - wondering if I got a set with the latch slot over-cut or something
I always try and park on level ground as I sleep in a rooftop tent so you always need level ground. Plus you normally only open it while your getting something out & then close it again. If the drawer is full it should have enough weight to hold it out anyway
Hay mate just found your channel and subscribed. I’ve got some kings gear and ok for the price. Curious to know what kings gear you’ve had that’s not real good. Might save me some problems in the future....
It was custom made by my uncle who owned the hilux before me. But it was an empty shell when I bought it. I did everything on the inside including covering every surface with 2 layers of insulation under the marine carpet

Thanks for the review. These are popping up in the states under different names so this was super helpful and informative. Cheers

Even with the problems would you recommend buying one or going for a better quality one
Still worth the money. For Someone starting out & on a budget it's fantastic 👍
Could you modify the roller set up to push them in more onto the track ? Eg some extra washers and longer bolts ?
I've actually been thinking about doing that very thing. If they just had one more bearing on the roller it would have been perfect 👌
good video mate, curious what length is your canopy
Cheers mate 👍it's only 1500 long

Thank you bro I got Kings 75l fridge couple of weeks, now draws
I don't suppose you took a picture of the structure you fitted underneath the drawer to raise it up?

Hey mate how do you think they’d hold up under a rooftop tent , the tent mounted directly ontop of the drawers on a tub rack?
I wouldn't do it. That rooftop tent is very expensive so you want to ensure it's mounted correctly. I made another video showing how I made it fit on my hilux
How you doing,
Can you tell me where you purchased your marine carpet from.
Just my local upholstery shop 👍
Burnings also sell it
Hi, what did you build your bottom frame out of and how was it installed?
Just c section & it's bolted to the floor & drawer. Then I also bolted the drawer to the side wall for extra stability
have a pair of these in the prado and they rattle terribly. nobody mentions the rattling though - wondering if I got a set with the latch slot over-cut or something
Mine was in my canopy so I wouldn't know if they rattled while driving
What you reckon about those XTM drawers?
I've seen them on 79 series from instagram but haven't tried them for myself. They seem great for the price 👍
How do you go when parked on a down hill slope stopping the drawers sliding shut by themselves ?
I always try and park on level ground as I sleep in a rooftop tent so you always need level ground. Plus you normally only open it while your getting something out & then close it again. If the drawer is full it should have enough weight to hold it out anyway

The rooftop tent, awning, dominator led strip lights nearly caught on fire lol

They would still work but it wouldn't be easy to secure them together. Be quite a bit of work
