- It's FRIDAY @PizzaFLIX
Starring: Broderick Crawford, Richard Conte, Anne Bancroft
Director: Russell Rouse
Screenplay: Clarence Greene & Russell Rouse
Go deep into the underworld and inside a national crime syndicate. Richard Conte plays an ice-cold Hitman rising up the ranks of the New York family, with Anne Bancroft as the mob boss' daughter who tries to thaw his heart. From the writing team of the Ultra Noir D.O.A, this hard-hitting crime flick created the blueprint for modern mafia movies like THE GODFATHER and GOODFELLAS. - Фільми й анімація
Why can't they make movies like this today? In the first few moments, New York Confidential grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. Richard Conte is brilliant as the stone cold, high functioning, psychopathic hitman.
Broderick Crawford nails it as a family man, with a big heart, who happens to be a mob boss. Great supporting cast and director. To say that the Godfather borrowed heavily from this movie is an understatement.
I can't believe that I missed seeing this movie in the theater when it came out. I was only 3 years old at the time, but that's no excuse.
Hi Sideshow 🍕 thanks for your detailed commentary 🍕 may the sauce be with you 🍕🍕🍕
Yeah that's no excuse. You should've been out there on date night going to the movies.
@@PizzaFLIX Thanks PizzaFlix. I hope to watch more great movies on your channel and to write some more reviews.
Of course Conte played Barzini in "The Godfather". Roles like this made that believable.
@@brianmccarthy5557 I never really synced up with the Godfather. It was over my pay grade. It reminded me of the Royal families with the palace intrigue. Too many moving parts to keep track of. Obviously the problem is me and not the movie, which was a classic.
I would watch anything with Broderick Crawford and Richard Conte.
me too 💯
I hear ya Chris. I feel the same about those two, great in anything they do! 🥸
I was just going to write the same, then here was your comment. I'd add only either or, and throw in Mike Mazurki. I'll take him where I get him.
And Marilyn Maxwell!
A young Anne Bancroft. Nice!
You can't go wrong with Broderick Crawford and Richard Conte together!
Richard Conte - so very underrated ... but ... that makes him EVEN MORE appealing.
Crawford deserves far more recognition than he gets--a seriously great actor!
he did....he won an Oscar
@@danmalic6688 didn’t know that. Thanks!
Well said.A fantastic actor.Cheers Jim
@@danmalic6688 I didn't know that either. for....? All the King's Men, by any chance?
@jiji1946 yes, all the kings men
Not one wasted line of dialogue.
Crisp and on point every time.
Couldn’t even imagine this done in color……
Daughter talking to Nick "Jump Fido, papa gives you liver" that's a great line. The food is another one "Salami on rye with a pickle" my mouth is watering.
sure was🤣
A kosher pickle
When I saw the #2 guy eating that sandwich and pickle I wanted one myself!
Anne was 24 years old here. She had such a presence about her. Excellent film.
I love her.
Bancroft is both stunning and powerful as a performer, more than the usual actor.👍👏
My mother always reminded me of Anne Bancroft. Ms. Bancroft was an excellent actress. I always enjoyed Broderick Crawford's films. This was a very good film.
How beautiful she was...
Your mom was also a great actress. She was really a Russian spy and you never knew it until now.
Good movie and great performance by Broderick Crawford!
No computers, and no green screen, just plain good acting.
Broderick Crawford was a superb movie actor. (Brazil)
Perhaps his BEST !
richard conte always gets good films to do.
We need to get the Film Noir genre back. This movie is among the best. And I'll never get tired of watching Ann Bancroft, I dare to add.
Enjoying it with a pinot noir!
I don’t know if we could have them back with SUV’s and mobile phones !!
@@martinsolomon5500 probably not.
@@zachbos5108 not a bad idea.
Tommy , " body heat " is modern noir! Great movie and Kathleen Turner 's hotter then the sun!
Outstanding actors Richard Conte Broderick Crawford wonderful actresses what a movie I watch it over and over I never get tired of it thank you
Brod with another standout performance, backed by a SOLID supporting cast!
Conte was always a solid presence in these 1950s urban crime / mob melodramas.
Love these old movies! Remember going to the theater at age 4….the smell of popcorn! Watching Judy Garland on the big screen, and The Invisible Man was fun! I am 76 now, and am smiling at the memories! Walking the many blocks with my sisters seemed like miles to my four year old legs!
Your mama let you walk all that way all alone?
@@MrMenefrego1 Of course not…my older sisters had to take me with them! 😂
@@suzannerobbins6293 Oh, I'm sorry, I misunderstood. So, you were the youngest child too? I had 3 older siblings who didn't want me anywhere near them, but every now and then, my parents insisted that they take me along. On one such occasion, when I was 7, my sister was so angry that she had to take me with her that she shoved me out of the car, leaving me to fend for myself on a deserted country road in a snowstorm. It took me over 4 hours to walk home; I got frostbite which still affects my old body to this day. Ah, yes, such good times.😖 I hope your sisters were kinder than mine. ❤
@@MrMenefrego1 They had to take me, and I don’t remember any problems! I had a younger brother but he was too little to go with us! I was 4, my sister 7 1/2 and my oldest 11 years old. This was the early 50s….streets with sidewalks, and safe neighborhoods where my mom felt good about us walking a few blocks alone! Things were so different! Wow….four hours for you to walk home seems a bit mean! I never had that anyway! We played together! Thanks for writing! 😊
@@suzannerobbins6293 Yes, my sister wasn't the nicest person in the world. One thing I omitted from that story was that she actually tried to run me over. (yes, she is literally insane) Her hubby tried to have her institutionalized permanently, but they only kept her for six weeks. I just stay as far away from her as possible! I'm so glad you and your siblings had good and loving relationships! God Bless.
Love these old films,Crawford and Conte always great value
OMG. This was groundbreaking fresh and Frank dialog for it's day. Had no idea.
Anne Bancroft and Richard Conte were excellent in this film. Thanks for uploading!
Thanks. Richard Conte was always good.
Wow ! What a gem. Broderick Crawford immense, if a little over the top. Richard Conte every inch a top star. And ' Mrs. Robinson ', filling the screen with her beauty. Top noir. Thanks.
GREAT film. Mike Mazurka was born in the Appalachia of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He graduated from Fordham Law School, became a pro wrestler, then an actor - and a damned good one. Obviously an exceptional man.
I agree. In his role, he sold it, always.
Three of my favorite actors in one movie!!! Broderick Crawford, Richard Conte and the ever-fabulous Anne Bancroft - doesn't get much better than that!
Hard to believe Richard Conte was a year older than Broderick Crawford.
IKR? Broderick Crawford looked about 20 years older than Conte.
Thank you for another outstanding preamble. Your film introductions are greatly appreciated.
Yes our minds can't remember all of the films best actand how they played those writers were for real imagination then.
Yes I loved your intro @Pizza Flix
I remember watching this on WOR-TV in NYC in the 1970’s when I was growing up. It was the first movie I ever saw with Richard Conte. I became such a huge fan of his and routinely pored over the TV Guide every week to see what films he was in.
Just grateful that there are so many truly superb films freely available on YT. My search method is typing in "films starring", rather than specific movies titles That way I get to see so many great productions I would never have thought of... Anne Bancroft was so charismatic and photogenic... My fantasy ending would be Nick saving Charlie by faking his death and driving him to South America, with his new bride, Kathy by his side...
If its got "Mrs Robinson" in it, I'll watch it just for her.
The Graduate.
Very sharp to the point dialogue, good acting with raw emotion and a lesson about the evil greed for money and power.
Thank you, PizzaFlix, for performing a wonderful service to us, lovers of truly great film classics. May the gravy, thick n rich, be with 'ee, always.
Wowee wow-wow. Cool movie! Richard Conte and Broderick Crawford never disappoint, and boy was Anne Bancroft beautiful and such a great actress!
This is indeed timeless. There will always be thugs be it gangsters or politicians of today. Thanks for sharing this wonderful movie
Best line in the flick from Lupo's daughter....
"Jump Fido! Papa give ya' liver!"
Considering the fact that there was very little known about the Mafia (La Cosa Nostra) at that time it’s a great movie!
Bancroft received the triple crown of acting by getting a Tony, an Emmy and an Oscar. She married Mel Brooks. A most talented actress and a real beauty.
Marrying Mel Brooks is proof that the way to a woman's heart is laughter. Provision, protection, loyalty, and communication all have there respective values to a woman, but you make her laugh and she'll stay with you forever...
As Stevie Wonder sang as a kid long ago from his hit, 'Uptight (Everything Is Alright)' "...Can't give her the things that money can buy, but I'll never, never, never make my baby cry..." Or as Bancroft said herself, "He makes me laugh a lot…. I get excited when I hear his key in the door. It's like, 'Ooh! The party's going to start!"
Anne was a tour de’ force in this picture. Her performance is riveting even to this day.
I had a crush on her. she was so beautiful in her older years to me.
She was beautiful, a great actress, can't keep eyes off her in this movie and many others - she had it all
Yes, Ms. Bancroft was a very elegant beauty with real talent. Bless her sharing her talent to us all.
Thank you as always! You take good care of us! ❤️👍🏻
Broderick Crawford - a great actor.
Richard Conte, Broderick Crawford, Mike Mazurki and the beautiful Anne Bancroft are fabulous but it was also great to see character actor J. Carrol Naish and the lovely Marilyn Maxwell. Underrated classic.
Really top-notch noir, this. Crawford and Conte never disappoint and a great role for Anne Bancroft.
Thank you soo much for these great old movies, lm 68yrs old and remember watching this movie when l was young. Great stuff 🙂
ALWAYS grateful when you upload a film a dozen people haven't done so already.
Pizzaflix rarely dissapoints; if you like gangster movies (I confess, I do), this one is an absolute gem.
Sadly, disturbingly, the sneaky underhanded backdooring is eerily similar to what we are currently observing in DC.
Excellent as always Broderick Crawford
1:16:46 Hey Mel! Ann over here kissing Richard!!, very good movie as expected considering Broderick Crawford and Richard Conti are in it, two very talented and seasoned actors who's performances are always top-notch, add to that combination a very young Ann Bancroft as I've never seen before especially this young, together they deliver exceptional performances that makes this film worth the watch, thank you PizzaFlix 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Perfect casting. Richard Conte and Broderick Crawford - excellent performances. Ann Baxter was wonderful, too! Thank you for posting this great movie!!
OOPs!! Ann Bancroft!!! Not Ann Baxter....
This is truly an outstanding film depicting the inner workings of the crime syndicate back in the early 1950's. Richard Conte and Broderick Crawford are like TNT in this no holds barred action packed film. In my mind I ask myself, how come I haven't seen this film before. My answer..... I don't know. Thanks PizzaFlix for this 5 star film.
Glad you found this outstanding film. 🍕🍕🍕

That scene where Bancroft throws herself at Conte is as intense as anything I've ever seen on film.
Take me! She wouldn't have to tell me twice😄
Really enjoyed this movie, pulled me right in.
What a Movie, I loved watching it 👍👍👍👍😃😃😃
Love the old school films
Broderick Crawford was brilliant in everything he did.
Agreed, i still watch the reruns of Highway Patrol... 😀
Remember Night People
A great film.Powerful performances from Richard Conte and Broadrick Crawford.Anne Bancroft what a beauty. Thanks for posting.Cheers Jim
“You know, Mr. Magellan, you have a penchant for other people’s affairs…” What an eloquent way to call someone, “nosy”. Excellent playwright. Thanks for this priceless gem. ❤❤❤
I thought about the writers when he turned around and used the same word while talking to Lupo. Well played.
The casting and the acting was brilliant. My accolades are about the script. With a few actors the movie's story line was clean, clear cut, and totally believable, how a syndicate gets engulfed in trouble. Trouble started slowly, almost unnoticed, with the government and the foreign investors... it snowballed from there, to the culmination. And it wasn't done with fanfares, with melodrama. It was all very realistic, real to the viewer. The pacing of the story: impeccable. Not one moment did I have to say "no, this couldn't have been that way." Smart writer(s), kudos to them. And sorry, I haven't finished. The character development was brilliant, too... the dizzy blondes, and the all-too-smart but overprotected daughter whose tragedy she could not avoid although she was protesting it with hands, feet and teeth. (So to speak). Her last scene she showed incredibly accurate displays of schizoaffective disorder. Even the play of her eyes were down pat.
Brilliant, brilliant movie.
Right no. Brilliant script and played true to the core. All acting superb.
Broderick Crawford, classic talent.
🤗🎉 Thank You PizzaFlix ! ! ! I've Been Wanting To See This Film For A While & Couldn't Find It . Crawford & Conte ! What A Combo ! 🎉🤗
.
. . . . . . . . On A Side Note Broderick Crawford Talks So Fast He Would Have Been A Good Candidate For An Auctioneer 🎤🤑
Oh my goodness he does talk really fast. There was one scene when they were in the office and he said a long string of words, it is so fast. I couldn't figure out what he said.
😂
He talks so fast. When I first started watching reruns of Highway Patrol on UA-cam, I thought it was the film speed running too fast.
@@kewrock 🤣 Me Too ! I Have Too Set The Speed To .75 To Grasp On To What He's Saying
@@Iloveflowers2024 Exactly ! I'm Going Whaaaa ? 🤣🤣
I'm a huge of his, but I think he was a little manic here.
one of the better crime films of the 50's.
When Conte had that quick scene in the wedding of The Godfather I thought he was a real Mafiosa. That shows how good he was.
Great cast and the director Russell Rouse was very competent.
Broderick Crawford is excellent in this, and Richard Conte plays the cold-hearted hitman, quite similar to his role in "The Big Combo" from the same year. Anne Bancroft does a good job of playing the daughter trying to break free from her mob boss father. I prefer these noirs from the 40s and 50s to much of what is produced by Hollywood today.
Stunning level actors all at the top of there game. Beautifully directed.. Conte can always play your lover or killer? Take your choice girl's. Thanks 4 the showcase.
Really, a hard hitting film, especially for the 1950s.
Amazingly so. This can stand up to anything by Tarantino.
I enjoyed this Old Hollywood classic movie 🎞️ 🎞️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🎥🎬
In these early roles it appears the studio was grooming Bancroft into the next Ava Gardner or Ruth Roman. The lady had talent, brains and beauty.
Fun Fact, Anne Bancroft's Grandfather was Architect Frank Lloyd Wright and he drafted plans for a Dollhouse for her when she was little.
Anne Baxter

A little bit more recent...

convincingly good for a 1955 flick.
Films and the acting were far superior in 1955 as was American culture & society compared to today's garbage!!!🤔🧐🙄😊

Seeing Mike Mazurski today and Vito Scotti yesterday in an episode of Twilight Zone, Mr. Bevis. I can never see one without thinking of the other. They played a mad scientist and his flunky in an episode of Gilligan's Island.
