Skateboarding VS inline Skating (Rollerblading) Disclaimer: This video represents my personal opinion as an inline skater with over 40 years of experience. While I had a skateboard as a child and occasionally borrowed skateboards from friends, I’ve never been a dedicated skateboarder in my adult life-until now, when I bought my first skateboard specifically to create this video. I believe skateboarding may be easier to start with compared to inline skating, but as you progress, both sports can become incredibly challenging, especially at a competitive level. Please note that the children featured in this video who are using a skateboard are my daughters.
Honestly I don’t even Ollie.. I somehow have “some control” because of how comfortable I am with “wheels” in general and the obstacles… but the “toy” itself.. not yet 🙏🏻
@@RicardoLino I find that committing on skateboard is harder because you have the option to bail at any time. On inline, you just have to commit to going into the trick.
For me, inline skating is MUCH easier that skateboarding. I started skateboarding at 34 with no prior experience. After 4.5 years, I wasn't satisfied with my progress and I switched to inline skates. I've been inline skating for 6 months and there are so many things that I'm able to do on inline that I was never able to do on a skateboard. One of my biggest problems on a skateboard is fear. I' think my body learned to be afraid really early in my skate journey, and now I find myself jumping off the board all the time, even when I tell myself to commit to the trick, and I have a bad habit of putting my back foot on the ground anytime something mildly scary happens. Having no option to bail on inline has been a blessing; I only have to commit when I start the trick. I fall a whole lot more on inline, but I get hurt way less than I ever did skateboarding.
Having done both since the 90s I have a take on this: Learning the basics is easier on a skateboard, and harder on skates. The dificulty curve is harder on a skateboard, as in it is a lot harder to go from beginer to really good. It is easier to get really good on inlines, at least for me
I found I was able to basically hop on a skateboard at the skatepark and do most of the same things the other skateboarders were doing on ramps and stuff. Carves, stalls, etc...though once it comes to the realm of flipping the board it is just a whole different world. It's very similar balance wise.
It's apples and oranges. One isn't easier or harder than the other. Trying to compare a basic trick like a 5050 on a ledge to a soul grind is pointless. To get to high skill levels in each takes lots of practice. They are different experiences though, which I think you described well in the video.
thank. i tried to answer i get asked by people that have no idea what inline skating is..hwen i say "i skate" instead of "i skateboard"..i than explain them what skating is instead of skateboarding and then this question comes..is that easier or harder? lol... but i agree.. they have wheels but they are VERY different... but for sure my comfort with the wheels, obctacles and being arround skateboarders al the time, made a difference..
Also when I'm doing a soul on transition i go with one foot in front and when I doing a mizou a go with the other and it feels alot different so I say that we have a switch forwards stance to
Yeah we have a leading foot . But you don’t say I’ll carve frontside and backside on a bowl or saw I’ll do a front or backside soul from your stance before jumping. But I understand what you mean. For me, left foot goes in front a lot and you’ll see that on my grinding too. Leading foot or more important that the foot lock. So I makio both feet easy and soul right foot but miszou left 🤷🏻♂️
also, the point about noise, that is SO why boarders think inline skaters snake them all the time - they dont, skate boarders just cant hear inline skaters coming
What's more difficult? Basketball or football, sculpture or graffiti, maths or literature... In my opinion there isn't a more difficult discipline. I guess it depends on the individual. People is diverse and so are their talents. Many professional basketball players wouldn't be that good in football and viceversa... One thing about blading not many people pays attention, compare the surface available for grinding on blades and on skateboard...
Agree with all you said :) it makes no sense to say one is harder but it tried to answer the question people made me the most when they saw me with a skateboard. They are just different and that what I tied to focus this video on. But hey, BOTH EXTREMELY FUN ❤️🎄🎅🏻 merry Xmas
I think it can be easier to trip on lil pebbles but dont agree 100% with the speed part...in a Bowl because the trucks adjust to transition and harder wheels I see skateboarder taking turns faster. and also in downhill th speed record is on a skateboard... maybe that will change one day.,. I dont know
@@RicardoLino I faster in terms of propulsion, like on a skateboard you basically have a 1:1 gear ratio which is good to accelerate from a stop but your max speed is more limited, on skates by changing the angle with which you push you can effectively change your gear ratio to be able to reach a higher top speed
@@RS-xq6je of couse if we talk about longboards compared to aggressive inline the longboard will have an advantage but there are freeskate skates that have up to 110mm wheels and with a bullet profile which pushes pebbles to the side
@aquilesca5tr0 I have a set of tris I run 110mm on they are great on rough ground 80a durometer (I think). i have been able to do blunt to rock since like 98 or 99 on my firends boards.... we used to have a mini ramp and my firends that skateboard were scared to tried them and i did..so i learn them back than....i never tried to slide them up until now when i got them and i will tell you..i dont even know how i landed it.. i have not tried it again yet.. but would love to make it a normal trick..LOL
yes. i had a skate as a kid quen i was 8-10 arroudn these years.. but evern since it broke never had my own again....i had electric boards to cruise around... or i have been around skateboarders my whole live and in my head i know how itsa done..lol. but i have not had a skateboard in my adulthood...and these was filmed in 4 sessions + 1 day to film the non tricks clips..
As someone that has been blading and skating since the 90's, this video is insanely disingenuous. It takes weeks to even get comfortable pushing a skateboard so for you to be doing blunt slides on "day 1" is flat out lying to your audience. As an aside, I have 4 kids who I've taught how to skateboard, snowboard and rollerblade.... rollerblading has by far been the easiest discipline for them to pick up. Easier than riding a bike.
hey. i understand that this is how you feel but i have not said anythign in this video which is not true.. i have not had my own skateboard in my adulthood before. i used to have a skateboard when i was 8-10 years old....maybe till 12...but once it broke i never had my own again. but i have been aroudn skateboarders my whole life.... every now and than i ask them to try their board.... or if you go on my old videos you will see me with 2 skateboards one on each foot taped.... or i have cruised arround in an electric skateboard. but NOT have my own skateboard since over 30 years.. also my kids, struggled at first to stand up more on inline skates.. because the level of commitment needed is just diffferent. people can PLAY on skateboards without using them properly. but by the time they will try to stand up they are already feeling confortable with the "toy".. but than as i wrote on the disclaimer. this is my opinion / experience.

The main difference is that on inline, you cant bail, if you are about to get smashed, you will get smashed😂

As a rollerblader, I would argue that makes it safer. When i fall i allow my ankle supporting skates take most of the impact.

Typical double kick with 54mm wheels I agree but on my longboards with 70mm + wheels they eat rough ground up
