Since people are using this video ,including myself to do their timing belt,l want to note that when you read the directions included with this kit it clearly states that you release the pin, tighten tensioner snug, then turn crankshaft clockwise 2 teeth on cam gear.Loosen adjuster slightly and turn tensioner counter clockwise till pointer is between marks, tighten to spec.

this old tech 2.0 is rock solid and probably last forever. purchased new, I now have 140k mostly driven by my two sons in HS, college, and now lives in Chicago. 10k oil change interval with cheapest synthetic and oem filter works perfectly and no additional oil between change. everything is oem and one t-belt changed at 90k. this is a really good video showing a-z.

I ordered the same Aisin Kit on Amazon. Everything went well, until I got to the tensioner & idler bearing. I turned the crankshaft by hand and the tensioner bearing kept slipping off center. Attempted to reinstall 5x and eventually consulted with my mechanic neighbor, as well as a reputable auto shop. They both suggested ordering another new tensioner & idler bearing, so I have a Gates unit coming tomorrow. What a PITA 🤦🏽‍♂️

Don't know if you will see this, but I'll give it a try. First, great vid! No BS, just getting it done straight forward as it should be. At the 12:32 mark while you are putting the new water pump in, there is a pulley/tensioner in the frame. It is clearly marked with a white "HCC". Can you tell me what this part is? I have the same Kia where this item is making a screeching noise when turning the wheels lock-to-lock and I would like to replace it. I verified the noise is from this item by use of Chassis Ears. Nothing else was making any unusual noises. Appreciate the help.

Now one of the bolts for the water pump doesn't want to return home, it's the right bolt, sigh, this lil car I'm now calling El Bastardo, and oddly it's been so easy to take apart, not so much together lol, I'll figure it out, but yeah that lower plastic drive belt guard was just so many kinds of fun to "Squirrel" out of there as well as the Big Dumb thing, but after it get it's passport stamped a gazillion times it makes a discreet exit out by the AC compressor, which if your AC belt tensioner fell apart like mine did, there's plenty of room if it's not in the way lol, I won't lie it's been an adventure! Goofy car to work on, at least mine is. I've torn down engines and worked on transmissions no problems this things like okay you want that off fine but it's gonna cost you lol. It's coming along, and I'll get it. Thankfully it's mine and I'm in no big hurry, sort of...

I'll find out later today. But I thank you for the reply.

@@RustBeltAuto if figured out what happened, the bracket for the alternator was removed during the removal of the water pump and the car god's frowned upon my decision lol the 4 small bolts were mixed two for the bracket and two for the water pump, as the two on the water pump are not pass through anyhow I got the big dumb water pump on and alternator bracket all good a bit of a fight there as I completely removed the alternator bracket to make more room to work and pushed the thing back, but next is that stupid timing belt tensioner/eccentric thingy lol, and all back the plastic garbage. I have a nerve disease in my feet and legs wherein I'm in pain all the time, so it's slow going but I'll save this car yet. Haven't lost one in 35 years lol. On a funny note I tried to find a repair manual on this vehicle and I called the good people at Haynes (I know) anyway the lady I spoke to said they never made one because KIA never made enough of them, THEY'RE EVERYWHERE out here in NC....anyway it will usually only go back together one way lol but I do thank you for the communication on this topic. I'm half German and Irish, and the German side (well yes Germany) came up through North Dakota and Minnesota, so I miss the humor and way with words. Thank you. If we lived close to each other we'd be friends....okay enough with the emotions lol. This is the only car I've ever worked on wherein the parts where easy to come off but hard and time consuming to put back on like this has been. Thank God after this I won't have to touch the thing until the next oil change....fingers crossed.
