Woooo this one of those endearing memories that hits hard! I still can't believe it's all LONG GONE!! :( You're forever in my best life! (♥ HANAU ♥... Pioneer Kaserne, Fliegerhorst, Gelnhausen, Buedigen 88-92)
Hanau was my first taste of Germany, I was in 3rd AD on Fliegerhorst, but couldn't Wait to be in A Real German city. I talked another newbie into going into town and he said What If we get lost? I told him it didn't matter, we know how to ask a taxi driver how to get back. My first day was was just the Best!
Boy oh boy do I remember this place well... the video showing the condition of Pioneer is kinda depressing but yet very peaceful... I was one of the Project Managers assigned to DPW as a young 2LT engineer officer... and during that time, I pretty much know every building on Post both inside & out (1997 to 1999).
I was in Hanau from 70-73. Coached and played on the pioneer kaserne basketball team that I named the 'Hanau Hustlers'. Did not lost a game in 3 years of playing. Even beat the German Pro team. Also coached the kids team 9 to 12 year olds, the kids were the Hessen District Champs when I coached them. Married a German girl from Frankfurt. Wonderful times in Hanua!
I was company motor pool dispatcher for the 507 Hem Co. 8th. Btn. 2 support brigade 1966 67 very long ago. But remember lots of good times. Sp-4 Irving Parker.
3/59 ADA Fliegerhorst Kaserne 1974-1978. Friends , Nua Kovati, Mark Lipka, Bartley and Strickland. Capt. Rawls, Lt Imhoff, Ist Sgt Kenny Osborne. Off post was my very best memories with Frieda Schiedler. I can never forget this beautiful times
I got to 3/59 later, in 81. We moved the unit down to Nuebrucke near Baumholder. In 84 I came back and got assigned to 503 AVN in 3/59s same old bldg. Felt so weird.
Oh man I love Hanau! I was stationed on a Kaserne with 2/20th F.A. off Lambouy str. Right across from the Golden Nugget Bar lol. Anyone remember that bar? I was in a small Artillery unit attached there A Battery 40th F.A. 3rd Armoured Division. I really wish I had stayed there after leaving 20 yrs ago. This place is awesome!
@@mauricewilsondaddybob1307 Me too brother!!! I believe I am going back next year to take photos and see some of the new changes. I am gonna eat Brat and Curry Wurst until I pop lol.
I arrived at Pioneer Kasern in June 1962 after basic at Fort Dix and CBR school in Anniston, Alabama. In September 1962 I was transferred to the CBR school in Vilseck, Germany for permanent duty. I assisted in the classroom and later taught a class in chemical warfare. In June 1964 made Sp5 and returned home to the land of round doorknobs in Nov. 1964. Since I had less than 90 days to serve in the USA was released. I had two years of German in college just before joining and was able to converse in German with the locals. Also spoke Italian with my relatives when on leave to my father's birthplace in Italy.
Rainbow- and Starlight-Club at the Chemnitzer Street was my Favorite-Places in Past-Time. I was 16-17 Years old. Now is 60 Years ago! My First "Hamburger" eat in the Rainbow-Club!. Grreat-Times!
I was in Hassen Homburg between 79 - 83. I was with HQ/SPT 45th Med Bn back then, nickname Kiwi. I was known to drive several cars back then with super loud stereos (Lol, teenager). That was a great time in my life. Thank you, US Army, for allowing me to serve and learn to be a grown-up
I was on Pioneer Kaserne from Nov 1967 to Oct 1968...was with the U.S. Army 568th Engineer Company...I lived in these barracks....Hanau was beautiful, and the people were kind and friendly...My ancestry goes back to Germany with both my mom's parents family from there...my great great grandfather was a composer in music in the early 1800's in Germany, Rudolf Von Weber....
I was stationed there with 149th Maint Co 95-98. I had some very good memories there. My kids enjoy Germany when we lived there at that time. I seen a lot of old buildings that once was my unit's barrack, the Battalion Head HQ and the other buildings surrounding my unit. Now it is all owned by the Germans with businesses, a firstaion, apartments and a car dealership that once was my company's motor pool.
I was stationed in Hanau with B 2/6 FA from 77 to 79. Lived in the barracks on Hutier Kaserne before getting an apartment in a German couple's house in Wolfgang. I love Germany and often remember gladly my time in country.
My dad was stationed at Hanau too. From 1976-1978. I attended grade school at Argonner and would walk from the housing area across the bridge to the DoD school at Argonner. I loved the time we were in Germany. Good memories!
I'm not real sure on the last name, but he was from Ohio. I think he might have left in 1973. I came back in June 1974, had a lot of fun over there. Our company worked in Wolfgang, supply parts warehouse. I was in building #3 699th Maintenance Co.
I was stationed in Hanau for 5 years. It was okay, however, as far as I'm concerned it was no match for its sister town about 30 minutes down the road better known as Aschaffenburg.
94 to 97, best times and friends I've ever had. I'd give anything to have one more day with everyone in that beautiful place.
Unsere Amis. Wie ich Sie vermisse. Es war eine schöne Zeit. Ein Hanauer Bub.
Miss you too ♥️✌
