- Nintendo has finally announced the successor to the Nintendo Switch (also known as Switch 2). We have new details about the release date and how this will affect Animal Crossing games going forward! Let’s take a look at when and what we could expect for the next Animal Crossing game as well as some updates to New Horizons.

The only thing I really want it backwards compatibility. I can’t wait to start a new island!
There's two things that I would really want to see from the next console, Backwards compatibility "this will majorly encourage people to buy up and not hesitate or wait for the library to grow" and also personally I'd want to see more remakes of old games, namely from the DS era.
I hope Nintendo announces the return of New Leaf in June. this would be perfect for the Switch before you can play the new ac.
I honestly don't think we're gonna get any other Animal Crossing game for the Switch 1 anymore. Though I would love to be proven wrong.

3Ds had so much more going for it, I feel! I am so sad they discontinued the internet access (though Pretendo is a concept to look into if you're interested). I'm super bumbed that Badge Arcade can no longer be played! I wanted to collect all the Animal Crossing badges. ;( It was so fun to decorate and customize our console's "desktop" with them, and I'm disappointed there's not an equivalent feature on Switch.

NICE. Really hope they listen to a lot of the asks for ACNH. Like... Nintendo. We LOVED that game, but we all saw what it could be.
They could’ve had kept updating the game for years and everyone would’ve even paid for additional things even!! The game is incredible but I wanted it to keep going.
While I love the idea of an announcement Sept 2024 and release date Feb-March 2025, no where in this announcement does it say the new console will be released this fiscal year. Only that it will be announced I am thinking it will be more announced March 2025 and released Holidays 2025

Just wanna say, you can maybe look at the release of the next Pokémon game as a hint for the console too.
Legends Z-A will be out in 2025, but it will be on the main switch as far as we know. Not a successor exclusive, or maybe one of the final games for the Switch. We don't even know if the games will be compatible with the successor, so I think it's possible the successor comes out later next year, not early next year. I think a bit after Legends Z-A
I think it’s much more likely that ZA will do exactly what BOTW did on Wii U. A Switch release to keep those who haven’t upgraded happy, but a more dedicated/heavily promoted release for the new console at the same time. I think they’re smart enough to know that releasing it just for Switch would lessen sales when a new console is imminent and excitement is focussed on that.

I'm really hoping if and when they make a new animal crossing they make the villagers not as bland and boring as they are in new horizons

As I understand it, it says they would make an announcement within the fiscal year. Not that it will be released in that time. So it could be as little as waiting until end of march next year to tell us that it will release within the next 10 years 😅
Very unlikely! The announcement and launch time for Switch was from October to March. They’ll do something similar here.

I'm concerned that they will try and the instant the new system drops they will shove a pokemon game on there without really perfecting arguing just like a carpet and violet .
To be honest if it weren't for pokemon I'd probably not buy nintendo consoles within a few years of them coming out

My bet is the new game will come out in 2027. Mainly because new leaf and new horizons came out a couple of years after the 3ds/ switch came out.

I have a bad feeling that the next console from Nintendo will be too gimmicky again, like the WiiU. Not enough power, extra dev time required because of the gimmick (whatever that may be), etc. I hope I'm wrong. I feel like Nintendo should, instead of making a 'Switch 2,' be looking at maybe a 'GameCube 2.' seems weird in 2024, but something to get more hardcore gamers back to Nintendo while also keeping the casuals seems like a good idea.
If we could get a dedicated home console and still have switches for portable gaming, nintendo would be unstoppable. Especially if they had cross compatibility with exclusives for the home console/ switch depending on game mechanics.
I honestly just want the next one to become powerful enough that it can act like a wiiu gamepad again, having dual screen connectivity, but still having the ease of the switch on the go, maybe even a slide on screen for ds like play on the go

I only got the Switch so I could play Animal Crossing. It was my first and only game of the franchise I have played. I can’t wait for a new one!
Of course there is the fact of what the new Animal Crossing game will be like? I know it will be expanding upon what New Horizons set up, maybe add things that weren't available from New Horizons, like more shop upgrades, get rid of the breakable tools, etc. Though the question is will they use the island setting again, or go back to a town? What new stuff will they add?
Personally, I hope that we can have more than 10 villagers. Animal Crossing for the Gamecube allowed 15 villagers.

I don’t think Nintendo would properly reveal the console before the Christmas season. They want to continue selling switches for as long as possible and if everyone is just waiting for the next console then they aren’t going to see as many sales during the holidays.
They just acknowledged a new console is coming out. They aren't going to see as many sales.
At this point most people who wanted a switch have one, and those who don’t will likely buy one used to save money. Nintendo knows this as it has happened with every console at the end of its lifecycle.
I think they’ll announce it coming out in January 2025. Then it’ll come out in like February or March.

I got a switch oled for my birthday and now they might a new console? Maybe next year?!?!
The new console won't even have an OLED screen, so you're still ok. You could wait for them to release an OLED version of the new console. I personally find the lack of an OLED screen a deal-breaker, so I won't be getting one when it releases.
The switch is 7 years old now and using even older tech. The follow up was delayed from this year if rumors are correct. Its been happening for years now
Don't I got mine late november and since mid-December everyone is talking about it and when it gonna be released. Had the same feeling like you, but just try to stay calm, it probably gonna take quite some time :)
You could always trade it if the next switch is a worthy enough upgrade but it will be a good while before good titles come out anyways…

As much as I would love animal crossing to be released with the console I know they will probably wait I definitely think Pokemon is more likely
I'm not gonna lie but I'm not overly excited for the new switch.
Nintendo's current business practices have put me off in wanting to buy new stock from them.
The current switches are unstable, my family have gone through 3 switch lites due to internal stuff not functioning to a high standard or it suddenly stops reading cards.
The subscription service just to use the cloud to save data, like acnh I haven't been able to access my saves, every other game could be formatted EXCEPT acnh, shutting down Wii and 3ds and older systems baring in mind some still use those consoles.
I just don't feel confident with them anymore.
A physical Acnh cartridge can only be played on the next console if the next console has a cartridge port, which it may not have due to games often going larger than cartridges can hold that companies are willing to use.
Almost all leaks suggest that it will at the very least have a slot for cartridges, but given this is more an upgrade to Switch rather than a complete reinvention, it will most likely still use cartridges. Like DS to 3DS.

I’m really worried about the possibility of a new mainline AC game. ACNH had so much potential and they gave up on it in favor of Pocket Camp. What new features could they even add that would be worth a whole new game anyway? I just can’t see the future of AC unless they can provide updates with new content. Even if they reinstalled the lost content from New Leaf into New Horizons that would be huge in my opinion.
They didn’t give up on it in favour of Pocket Camp, that game has a completely different developer. As for the argument about “what could they add?” It’s one we’ve seen with every new entry, but somehow Nintendo has managed to come up with new ideas every time.
@@CrossingChannel That makes sense if they have a different dev team working for PC. I was unaware of that. Nintendo is still raking in so much money from PC though whilst NH has been dropped with no more future updates. I'm just worried because Nintendo has implemented a lot (if not most) of the possible features that any AC player would typically want. Therefore I'm worried that since they've stopped updating NH all together that means they've just simply run out of ideas for AC. It's just a worry of mine that NH is their final mainline AC product. I personally I believe that if they take NH features/mechanics and reinclude features from previous games (like ability to travel to the city and interact with unique NPCs as such in city folk, or simply use the train again to travel elsewhere in general) then they can appropriately pull off the next mainline AC title, I think. I'm keeping expectations in check and I hope you do as well.
I wouldn’t worry too much honestly. Like I said, people wondered how they could come up with new features and ideas post New Leaf, but they did. We got terraforming, outdoor items, numerous quality of life features, farming, cooking, crafting, the list goes on. It’s true they did take away features that I miss, but each game is guilty of this in different ways (perhaps except New Leaf). I’m sure they’re already thinking of what to do next.

id like for there to be models of sea cretures like the ones for fish and bugs and for you to be able to order as many models as you want as long as you have 3 of the critter. i also want the game to be more story driven since once you run out of goals the game just becomes chores. villagers are lacking character depth so maybe have fewer of them so the ones that remain can be deeper characters

Future is about small handhelds like 3ds instead of big ones like switch or wiiu

The leaks say 2026 potentially so I think it won't be a launch title unless the console itself launches later than announced Pokemon ZA may or may not be But I see it being an early spring or E3 massive shadow drop title that year at latest going in Pokemon's late summer early fall spot since they'll be between big games after ZA if they don't release a new gen
The leaks were confirmed fake by more reputable leakers such as Pyoro.
I just hope if we get a new AC game, those with the older iterations of the switch would be able to buy on the eshop even if we couldn’t get the new system right away. As someone who was a few years late to ACNH, my fomo cannot handle it again
Very unlikely sadly. The next game will most likely be optimised and using code exclusive to the next system, so it wouldn’t work on the less powerful Switch.
