As were tracks. It focussed the mind to have 22 tracks as a practical maximum on most projects. If you had the money, you could get around 44 tracks max but it was more than twice as complex to do that, given we had to get two machines lined up and often patched if the studio you worked in didn’t have two machines in the studio as standard. Where I worked we had a floating A-800 for those who could afford the time and equipment to use more than the one machine.

As I mentioned on your Tears For Fears Linndrum video, it would be great to see a tutorial on the compressor and reverb that you’re using. Great video again!
Excellent series! Would love to see a future video on any of the songs from Def Leppard’s Pyromania album. All of the drums were Linn with the exception of some of the cymbals.
It is kind of ironic, that this heavy drum machine utilisation was for the last album from _before_ Allen’s accident and made him want to consider quitting the band. whilst almost immediately after his accident, he became fully onboard and a deeply committed band member.

What I love about 80s songs was the effectiveness and efficiency, the simplicity , cause studio time was a real commodity..
Uh…commodity means precisely the opposite of scarcity.
what i love about the 80s was the absence of the internet and dumb people giving their dumb opinions
As were tracks. It focussed the mind to have 22 tracks as a practical maximum on most projects. @@anditgoesanditgoesThere were plenty of dumb opinions, believe me.
No they spent a ton of money on studios. And there was an entire ecosystem devoted to doing so.
Stevens' explanation to how he came up with the chord progression is worth the price of admission alone!
Without effects you’re like - “what the hell can I do with this?” Really brings the sounds to life.
