I love watching this channel so much. Can anyone tell me the gist of what they are singing about please? And also what is it the women are thinking as they are dancing. It's not like western dancing where we just go nuts to the rhythm, they are acting or doing something more formal I think. What does it symbolise or represent?
Hello, they are dancing about the Makassan sailors and boats that used to travel to SE Arnhem Land and trade with the local people for hundreds of years. The flags represent the sails of the Makassan boats and the actions are about the boats, looking through telescopes, raising sails, playing cards etc. It has become very spiritual over centuries and is like a religion for the Nundhirribala clan. You can follow Ngulmiya Nundhirribala's youtube channel for more information, music and dancing.
@@Numbulwarmedia ahh excellent! Thanks so much for your reply! I see the red flag dancers. I can't get enough of it. I have got a yidaki from arnhem land and am learning to play slowly. I love the sound. Much love from 🏴
