I don’t blame you guys for thinking this isn’t his best work, especially as a written, but here is what I think as a fan having followed Harry Mack for a while now. He was heavily influenced by the earlier rap groups when rap was more about expression, story telling and poetry. I remember growing up and hearing LL Cool J’s “I need love.” As a kid in Junior High, I didn’t think “Damn those are some bars!!!” No, I loved that song because of the emotion LL Cool J was expressing about how he wanted real love and was tired of playing with women. I loved Run DMC and the rap “You be Illin” was a funny rap. The Beastie Boyz “Paul Revere” was also a funny story. He’s a fan of Big L, I also don’t remember thinking “Wow, those are some Bars!!!” When I listened to his music. Same with Tribe Called Quest and the list goes on and on. You get my point. Listen to Harry’s song, “They Told Me” on his “Contents Under Pressure” album and you’ll see the artistic side of Harry even more so. These days we think rap is only fire if it has intricate bars, double entendre’s or fast like Eminem or Tech9 etc. If you approach Harry’s writtens expecting that type of music, he likely will never make anything impressive enough for most and will disappoint all who expect it. His intricacies and double entendre’s hit harder when he improvises and I think that’s where everyone is impressed and expects that to translate to his writtens. We know he uses 2 parts of his brain, the quick thinking improvising part and the part that has time to think and write. When he has time to think and write, it’s going to be more of him expressing emotion and poetry rather than the technical aspect of rapping. I think Harry’s writtens would have been much more appreciated in the 80’s than they are now. I think Harry’s knows this as he’s eluded to it in the past and therefore he is self conscious about writtens because of current expectations. Anyway, food for thought.
Massively disagree with you, but still enjoyed your reaction! It’s refreshing that to hear reactors not just placating to what they think fans want to hear.
I like this respose you wrote to the fellas.. i wish more people could agree to respectfully disagree. 👌 and i agree with you, it's refreshing to hear honest opinions on a reaction channel that have constructive criticism. To Craig and Quise, you guys do a great job of being "respectfully real"...the respectfully disrespective collective! 👍love it
I really enjoyed hearing your take on this. For me it feels like an experiment in style and part of his transition from freestyling to writing. It's a first step on his journey, this isn't where he's landed. I think he's building deliberately.
Just binged whole bunch of your harry mack reactions and you two are soooo much better than other reactors. Getting real insight into rapping and hip hop, into your skills as rappers, etc. Keep it up! And you're super fun too. And production is slick as well.
i think thats the exact point, as he freestyled he got better and better, i dont see it any different with writing. hes got all the natural skills in the world in terms of flow changes and doubles/triples etc, as he gets more comfortable as a writer i think hes going to get way better, i think he just needs reps...like any artist or athlete etc.
Should hit up some of his older writtens for a sense of where Harry was at leading into the freestyle explosion ( proof, Napoleon Hill, they told me, etc)
@@THEMAADASSHOLE agree, though I can also see that following his last burst of writtens the depth and doubles etc in his frees got way better, I think by putting himself through the process of writing it expands his ability to later do similar on the fly, at least up until now.
Harry Mack said something in one of his freestyles. With the Transformer "Rise of the Beast" casts. He was talking with Tobe Nwigwe and he said his brain doesn't function proper when he writes. So, you can check that one out
I love Harry Mack, but the answer to his question is.. No. He should not write this rhyme... 😬 ..it wasnt for me personally *BUT* he is still the man. They cant all be home runs i guess. Sounds more like he had some feelings to express and get off his chest. Idk.
To give another perspective on this matter even though it has been quite some time. No matter if this is good or not. It shows something, something artists who have been around for a long time don't completely understand I think. As someone who got into rap only a couple years ago, there's a lot of history and legends I missed. I am not aiming to become a hip hop head but I definitely start enjoying it more and more. I like it so much that I am getting into making music, singing, rapping and freestyling myself. Harry Mack is damn inspiring to show what is possible and is fucking insane. However, when you are just a newbie and see someone as great as Harry Mack. It's like why even bother. I will be nowhere near his level any point in my life. I will not be close to other great rappers. Why even bother trying? Then suddenly you see the absolotue G.O.A.T. of freestyle suddenly change to a different format. He starts writing and is soooo honest about his struggles and aiming to improve his pen in a song that is not aboslutely bonkers. It suddenly becomes tangible for a complete newbie like me. It's suddenly not a talent, it's a skill. a skill you have to devote your time to. Only then you become a master at something. Only then you can achieve greatness. And like you said in his Iconoclast video "I might like Harry's pen more" is proof to this feeling as it is a complete 180 from your stance in this video.
Harry Mack improves better because that's he's natural element. He's perfected that craft to where it's a second language. Written is completely different and not his strong point but I like the introspection of his written. BTW, he said he wrote in the rhyme.
I think you guys missed the point here, instead of listening to what he's saying, yall couldn't let go of the topic of freestyle or not. In its essence, this is a dope song, hes moving from one medium to another and of course he's not gonna be as good at this as he is at freestyle. However as far as a track goes, it's awesome. Give the man some time, he evolved his freestyling in a matter of 2 years, who knows what his written are gonna sound like in a few.
No I think YOU missed the point. The point is if you’re going to write like any other rapper you’re held to a different standard than improv. This wasn’t super good on either level for him. That was the point. Writing songs is a different animal than freestyling. Harry himself would tell you that. I’m sure the more he does it he will improve like any other rapper. It’s new to him
Harry has been rapping for over 25 years and only became famous in the past two years. The biggest change was his confidence and hearing feedback from his fan base. For example he took out using hmack as a filler. He was already an amazing freestyle r from the beginning he started already running. Now he just knows the short cuts
I think he dumbed it down because he wants us to think its written...he is having a conversation with himself about should he or shouldnt write. In my opinion
He has been all in on freestyle for years.Give him time. Takes balls to put his practice out there for everyone to see. This is a C. But this dude will be a fucking monster in a couple years
@@lesboartfield8970 Yeah Harry is another breed of dedication, skills and practice. He's so damn inspiring and wholesome. Only could wish him the best.
I'm a massive Harry Mack fan and I have been since the very start and he said over again that he messes up when he tries to write he said he over thinks his words and it didn't feel right. He could easily freestyle any song he wants and make it sound written. I'm not saying it's not written I'm just saying 😅
Yall seriously misunderstand harry mack but I get it bc yall are just a reaction/podcast channel and not a fan like that. You really gotta sit down and listen to HM in his interviews, behind the bars stuff, podcasts. He explains exactly what goes on in his mind and he said it in this song perfectly.
Please react to The Process by Harry Mack. Its his next single on the Ep. Theyre all written byt the Process is much better in my opinion with a fire bar abiut Mayweather
