Great job in the video. You were short and to the point. Included all necessary details. Good angles and shots of the products. Well done and thank you.

Yeah, every single person I’ve ever heard talk about the Gerber brings up how cheap they are causing them to snap when trying to pry anything

Got the Prybrid. It is just handy. Takes time to get used to the switchout mechanism. Got it for £10 as well. The cord cutter and pry bit work as good wire strippers as well.

Workpro folders 3-pack $14 been my go to for years. That's 6 tiny stainless folders with quick release blade for under $30.

I got the Prybrid in OD green about three years ago and it's been relegated to the kitchen utility drawer ever since. It's just too "snaggy" in my pocket. The best bargain I recently found for a plain Jane, functional edc utility blade is the one made by Hart from Wallyworld. Very basic, yet functional and you get two for $9, a bead blasted silver one and a glossy black one. They are a bit rattley but for the price you get a basic, functional and reliable pocket utility blade without breaking the bank.

I just ordered the K1 for $12 you can’t go wrong with seems like with 2hand operation might be safer. But regardless of that gonna add it into my viperade pocket pouch. Make a good little addition to EDC line up.

Even if the blades for the olight utility knife aren't marked up in price, it's still a major problem. Part of the appeal to using utility blades is being able to pick up new ones almost anywhere. If you can find a hardware store, you can find a replacement blade. But not with the olight otacle.

Exactly, I am a olight buff, and probably will not get one. The pen refill I can deal with, not utility blades. Might just go outdoor edge razorwork knife

I'm not currently carrying a utility knife, but I've been thinking about getting one. What's most important to me is ease of use, including standard, easy to find blades. Coast is kinda underrated. Not the best, but good enough. Really enjoying your channel:)

Great video! I carried the Gerber EAB Lite for years and it still going strong. I use a penny or a dime to change the blade. I've been using the TPT Slide for the past year. It's great, but I've wanting to get the Exceed Designs TiRant Razer. Seems like the ideal folder utility knife for me.

No matter how cheap they are, specialty blades mean inconvenience. One of my favorite things about these is if you take the blade out, you're good to fly. Just pick one up when you land.. specialty blades, makes that a pain.

I got the Outdoor Edge SlideWinder in May or June of 2022 and it quickly went from "glad I got it" to "this junk has jammed yet again!". I have disassembled it several times to fix the issue with the blade jamming and each time the issue quickly returned, because the design is, simply put, flawed: the tin sliding frame holding the blade is prone to rubbing against the metal half of the blade's body... and then jamming against it.
When it's freshly "reset", it works like a charm, but after a week or so it starts to jam again. I replaced my "essential tier" utility blade with a different unit (RovyVon Valor V10). I think I need to disassemble it once more, but this time I will introduce the sandpaper into equation, because I WANT to like the SlideWinder. I really do, and I want it to remain the part of my side bag EDC kit.

I've heard the spring the slide winder can have issues. I've been carrying a Milwaukee Fastback lately so I haven't put alot of time on my Slidewinder to see the fail points. Thanks for the review!

    • @ThatImmo

@@toolsfordarkness the spring is a miniscule, itsy-bitsy spring like the one you would find in the oldschool deck chairs of suspension of an old washing machine - a coil with a hook on either end. Very thin. It is strong and durable enough, but putting it in its slots during the maintenance is a pain in the neck. Not nearly as annoying as the grinding and jamming it is prone to, though.

WorkPro has some nice folding utility knives. Similar to the Gerber, but easy blade swap. They have a button lock version for a bit more, it's nice.
I've been EDCing a TPT Slide for years now. It's expensive, but it stopped me buying so many knives, so that's a plus.

i CANT carry an utility knife just for having one here in italy(i cant for self defence and for "just in case"), but i carry for work (ofc only when i go to work and return back to home) a cutter with lockback mechanism (safety>>>) and 5 extra changable blades in the handle. its a workpro got for 15 euro, its solid

Great review. I really like the slidewinder. The problem is we are not permitted to carry this sort of knife in the UK without a good reason for having it. My sons both have one of these for work.

The gerber eab negative is the blade change, but that negative is also a positive as there is zero blade play. And is my current razor knife for rough cutting,s aving the edge on my nice knives, mostly for automotive during the week, and adventure/projects on weekend, looking for something better, but not yet.

  • @jameschapman3306

Thank you for this video good comparisons. I really liked the Gerber but screwdriver blade change is a negative, when I can get the Edge, that has an easier blade change . basically I just want a small utility bladed knife for my pocket. Quick change blade is a big deal ! Again I liked the unbiased review very helpful !

Good review! I really like that coast knife I might have add that to my collection, the Milwaukie 6 in 1 utility knife is very nice for edc too and i carry an extra serrated blade inside it as well, I think that's my favorite utility knife out of all the ones I come across and the Milwaukie 5 in 1 knife is awesome too, they both have locking bit exchangers also..

I want to love the prybrid, I own and bought several. However, the sliding mechanism just gives out way to often. Was a god sent when I was tire tech to cut vaulvstems and breaking down boxes.

What blades do you prefer for the Gerber folder? Have you found that some of the blades that say, heavy duty or high carbon are any better than just a plain ol' heavy duty craftsman?

i got the outdoor edge one free, but its fatal flaw is how easily it retracts. i also have both versions of the gerber folding one. i like the first version better cuz it's more discreet. the 2nd one version you have is the lite. it's same weight but larger handle for better ergos. but wider when closed. i also have both the gerber prybrid and the prybrid x. huge fail for them to not put clips on either of them

Is the coast dx much thicker than the gerber EAB lite? The thinness of the knife is really important to me. I like the way the gerber disappears in my pocket.

    • @toolsfordarkness
      @toolsfordarkness  29 днів тому

Just a little. The blade is much easier to change out on the coast. The eab requires a screwdriver.

@@toolsfordarkness honestly I wish more knives used a screw like the EAB. It feels nice to not have any play in the blade and you can easily keep a screwdriver on a keychain.
