The Gerber Prybrid has been my work EDC for something like six months, probably closer to a year at this point. It may be the most perfectly well-rounded utility knife I've ever used. It's not the fastest, or the most reliable, or the most comfortable, but I'll be damned if I ever find anything that is all at once faster, more reliable, and more comfortable than the Prybrid.
Plus, the prybar is a nice addition; not only for prying, but also for jabbing and scraping.
I agree with you! Its one of my favorite all around utility knives and its a great deal! Super comfortable grip, reliable deployment and holds the blade very securely. One of best products I have seen from Gerber.
I've been using the Gil tec daily for almost 3 years now, its my work edc. I also have the Big i design which i occasionally edc on the weekends. Typically the gil tek or worn around my neck on a retracting lanyard.
I have the ScrewPop, the Coast DX126 and the Outdoor Edge and they are all fantastic blades that do a great job, but each do it in their own unique way. I find myself carrying the Coast DX126 the most and find it to be the most comfortable by far. Thanks for the great video.

I can't honestly say what one is best, since I've only used one, but I've been carrying the Prybrid daily and I've been really enjoying it. I've had no issues thus far, but it's been less than a month, so time will tell.
my first utility blade was the EAB Lite for over a decade until I got the topo TPT Slide a year ago. I really want the TiRant Razor.

I like the el cheapo plastic one that lowes sells as a "kobalt" product. Simple push button, single hand open and close, nice handle, and there's a cut away in the back of the handle so that you can slide cord into it over the main blade while it's closed. It's not so much an “EDC” one, it's chunky, but it is nice if you're actually using utility knives during the day.
I have the WORKPRO you have and like that one quite a bit. The one I like most is an unbranded Chinese titanium slipjoint that locks the blade in like the Coast you show here, with better blade access and less finger jimping. Looks like a Sebenza, a straight razor, and a slipjoint had a baby; exposes 50mm of the 60mm blade, making it a 1.96" razor-bladed jack knife. I find the WORKPRO blades w/ SK5 steel are the best bang-for-buck blades I've found - $10 for 100 of them off Amazon. Cheers & thanks for a great overview video!

I own many utility knives, 3 of those shown here, including 2 variants of the Gerber, however the Exceed designs is truly incredible, I carry it daily and never leaves my work pants unless it's being washed. It comes with a tool to work on it and also I received a free pry attachment. It's super to open, light weight, tough and very cool. Trust me you won't find a better option, to be honest they ain't cheap but they truly are a lifetime investment.
Enjoyed the video. The USA-made Gil-Tek Ruk S is my favorite. Thanks for the DeWalt carbide blade recommendation. The Irwin blades I bought rusted in their plastic package before I could use them.
Yeah its incredible how lightweight it is and its one of the more comfortable of the smaller knives to hold! Yeah the DeWalt Carbides are my go to! They come lubricated in the package and I've never seen them rust out of the package. That is disappointing about the Irwin Blades! They do have a cool look to them though.
Milwaukee Fastback Compact Utility Knife. I've used it for about a year and it holds up great for my jobsote needs. Compact design leaves room for my cellphone and flashlight in the same pocket.
I use mine all the time, but I'm on my second one in a year because the driver head is just pressed into the locking swing arm. Kind of a bummer.
I have the compact version of the fastback and I have a fiskars that is similar because it flicks out too.
I agree about the fastback I carried a all aluminum Stanley folding razor knife at work then I bought the 6-1 fastback used it for as long as it has been out every day 110 hours a day at work . Love it carry it to Florida for two weeks of vacation . . Love the Milwaukee knife

Two thing to mention.
1. Outdoor Edge Slidwinder gas a spring, which hides the blade in a sec, which is lovely. Screwdrivers are a nice addition.
Also try to make lanyard and use that one with that. It's creating a spot for one more finger and alows some additional grips. I use it that way at work.
2. There is second and better version of Workpro.
u can also use a penny, nickel, dime, or quarter to change the blade on the eab
Thanks for the vid. I will pick up the exceed design one day. Have an old g10 gerber eab and has replaced my secondary pocket knife recently in my edc rotation, ordered a outdoor edge utilipro to try. Also picked up a knipex 5" cobra pliers and put my wave and mp400 in drawer and will go in bags or truck and such.
Get one you won't regret it.

I used to carry a Gerber EAB original version. EAB lite is not as good as the original design. The Gerber screw doesn't need a flat head for blade changes. A simple coin like a penny, dime, etc. Can be used to change out blades. I love the Gerber Prybrid. They come in gray and green. I went with gray. Walmart carries them now for $23 after tax. Walmart offers the prybrid in Black G10. Love it. Needs more aftermarket pocket clip options. I have the TiRant Razor V2 as well as the TiRant Razor-M. Both are great and I would recommend either for work or minimalist needs.
DeWalt Carbide in every single one. Class.

Below is my run down of the Workpro, a couple stanleys, G-EAB gen1 and 2, and the G Prybird. That is also the order I would rank them.
I've had the Gerber EAB, both the gen 1 and gen 2. Hate the Gen 2 but the gen 1 was pretty good. The aggressive finger guard on the Gen 2 got hooked on stuff all the time when undercutting. All of them had the same issue in the end though, I stripped out the screw holding the blade. So I looked on. Then I bought the work pros, honestly I should have stopped here, they are great AND I can open and close them one handed. The issue I have with them is that they are so cheap that I don't double check if it's in my pocket, so I have bought 3 packs of them over the last 3 years due to losing them or giving them to friends, but this is my EDC, may always be. But I wanted a slider... so I bought a Gerber prybird and a Stanley 0-10-810 Sport Knife, still want the Stanley STHT10432 CONTROL-GRIP but I can't find one in stock in the USA. The prybird is stiff as hell, the Stanley sport knife is also a bit stiff. I have relegated the gerber to be a "bench" knife, it may as well be a straight blade, because I leave it open most of the time, I want to love it, but my thumb blead after a day of forcing myself to use it all day. the stanley I bought a second one and put a hook blade in it, now the pair are my roofing kit even though they are a bit stiff, they are way better than the Gerber and are easily cleaned from tar.
My uses are varied, I'm a hardcore DIY guy, I also enjoy fine woodworking, and I open a lot of boxes and straps at work.
TLDR, all the Gerbers aren't great for one reason or another, the workpros are economical and work great even one handed, the stanley sport knife is ok and easily cleaned from tar and junk, and the stanley control grip I can't find but I want to give it a try.

makers knife is still my favourite of all utility blade holders, it managed to break after 5 or so years, but the factory is down right now because of covid, they said they would ship me a new part for free once they are back up, in the meantime, i got a tirant razor and loved it, but sadly lost it. My search for a quality replacement continues, there are a few REALLY expensive and nice options out there, but im not willing to put $300+ towards a utility knife.
I waited 4 weeks for the exceed designs Tirant (V2) to arrive and it was worth the wait. Comfortable to carry, works great and comes with a bunch of extras. You have the first version of the Tirant. Nice comparison video...thanks

@@UrbanSurvivor It's holding up well. I carry it to work daily and I use it regularly. I like that I can just swap out the blades and I think I use it more than an EDC knife because I'm not worried about messing up the edge. And it feels and works like a knife.
Not sure which version of the Tirant he reviewed, but the newest one comes with a pry bar insert that can be installed on the end replacing the lanyard mount (I much prefer it that way) and makes the staple removing even easier :)

I'm all about the Coast Utility Knife!!! It's light and compact when folded, yet comfortable with the best grip when using. It has a pocket clip and lanyard hole. I stick in my zipper pouch wallet and forget it's there. I sometimes use it as a money clip. But here are the 2 things that make it blow away most of the other blades you reviewed it against. First is that this blade only costs between $11 to $13. And the most important thing that many people forget to take into account that is most important if you're going to carry a Utility blade as an EDC implement alternative to a folding knife...., that would be "blade edge exposure". The Coasrt and the Gerber EAB are some of the only knives that try to expose most of the cutting edge out of the pack of knives this vid reviewed. The Coast exposes about 2/3 of the Utility blades cutting edge as opposed to many of those other blades that expose about 1/3. That is what brought me to settle on it as my EDC with the slight alteration swapping out the straight edge for a slightly serrated edge blade. This is what makes the Coast and the Gerber EAB more than just fancy box cutters that look cool to sucker the EDC crowd with fancy features to sell at a higher price. If anyone pays over $15 for a fancy Utility Knife with a titanium body, a pry bar, and a bottle opener yet it does not expose more than a 99 cent store box cutter blade, congratulations, you've got a fancy box cutter made out of titanium and that's it.

I just saw a picture of a badazz utility knife on Reddit and thought “I’m gonna buy that for sure…” Then I Google it and it’s only available on preorder for $500!! I thought it was going to be like $80 or so. So yeah.. needless to say I’m getting the Coast instead. Lol
@mikeappleget482 I've had my coast for a while and it's served me well. Tighten the screws from time to time and you shouldn't have any problems. Definitely a good blade to have for the menial tasks so that you use put your expensive big blade to more deserving tasks.
been trying to find a replacement for the slidewinder. its quite useful to carry with its compact size and its few features, but i have been getting more and more annoyed with its slide mechanism. i dont know if the one i have is a defect, but its practically on a hairtrigger. just a slight touch, and the blade retracts. i find myself constantly sliding it out over and over again for a single cut. well, unfortunately, ive had little luck in finding something similar, but with a different slide. i guess people just dont like to carry something that size.

Very good run down. I've carried the Gerber EAB for years now. Primary use is for work, cardboard and nylon straps. Pocket clip broke off on one of them but haven't had any other problems.

So I'm throwing this out there I have had 3 gerber prybrids now and I've discovered a weak spot. The "button" to actuate can snap over long-term use. I've broke 2 of my 3 thus far. I still believe it's a good edc tool for the money but I really wish they would address this flaw. I broke one in probably 2 months of everyday use.
I use only Milwaukee fast back 48-22-1505.
I know this was 9 months ago, however you might want to check or add the OOZCC S18

Would be good if you could cover details that aren't obvious until you get a product and use it.
Examples:
The pocket clip on the Aerocrafted isn't great because it doesn't easily slide onto the pocket, often you may accidentally deploy the blade doing it, and the item is so small that you don't know if it's still there.
The Exceed Design knife holds the blade further out than others and overlaps the halfway point of the blade, meaning you'll be wearing a bit of the 2nd half while using the 1st half.
I have both the Tyrant and the Hawk Shortcut and while I love my Shortcut I’m far more careful with it due to the cost.
If you could get your hands on a Magnus Slickclick, that's the utility knife I settled on for EDC. I lost track of how many of these EDC'able utility knives I've gone through! I love how thorough you are and bring up some points most people would miss when looking at these.
Being Lefty I like the two that can be ordered Left handed. But the Coast is sure handsome

Have you added a pocket clip to the Prybrid? I carry a "self-defense" knife with the Prybrid as the daily work horse! The pocket clip also aids in the grip!
@@sukhvindermangat1087 Actually yes, I did add a Nite Ize clip and it's crazy how it really does feel better in hand with the clip on.
I have the prybrid and blade locking mechanism is terrible. Blade slips out when doing down push cuts. I was cutting the seam of drywall where the corners meet and the blade slips out. When I actually want to replace the blade, it doesn't want to release the blade. If it wasn't for that, it would be a decent EDC.
how did you fit the dewalt blade into that tirant razor? i have one and they dont fit...

I've been debating getting it as my EDC. It would kinda bridge the gap between my Smartknife+ and my Gerber EAB Lite.
The Workpro knife is a generic design used by a few companies. I have one from Mossy Oak. I keep mine with me at work as a back up.
I have the mossy oak version of that work pro it is surprisingly durable and well design cutter. The dx126 coast is also excellent and well designed also compact in addition the customer service at coast is excellent. Im not a fan of the titanium box cutters because it silly to pay what they cost the dx126 was 13 bucks for me and the work pro was like 3 for 12 dollars and they do the same thing a tpt does for 100 dollars. The tirant razor is just overkill for a box cutter it is too big to be compact and too compact to compete with the fiskars or Milwaukee utility cutters.
Actually, changing the blade on the Gerber doesn't require a tool. The slot in the screw is cut wide so you can use a dime or a penny to remove the screw.
Agree, and actually is better in that the slot was cut wide to accommodate the thickness of coins.
the only problem i found with most of not all sliding handles is the blade edge rubbing against metal , thus dulling the edge to oblivion, i like to keep my blades hair whittling sharp the next time day i use them, sliding handles make that impossible
Gil-Tek Ruk (most recent model, IIRC) now has tiny pins rolling underneath the blade to reduce dulling effect in a slider.

Personally the Gerber Prybrid is the best choice here. It's secure, heavy duty, and has decent capability other than cutting.
I will also say, changing the blade on the Prybrid can give some people issues. But mine has worked just fine.
I also work in an environment that has tons of stone dust and it functions just fine dry, without any lubricants added.
Prybrid all the way. It's ugly but it works.

Yeah I am a big fan of the prybrid and was just using it the other day. Its definitely my go to if I know im going to need something to be rough with.
Its holding up well and I have no issues with blade changes or the sliding mechanism.
Imo the Gerber is pretty much unbeatable and at $12 for a two pack definitely a no brainer
(Outdoor Age side wonder) feels horrible in the pocket.(Odd shape of a knife plus keys attached to it, very hard to pull out on the pocket) sliding button very flimsy broke within a couple of weeks. After that I bought (Screw-Pop) knife, very good design and it feels great in pocket. Hopefully it will help you save some money.

Why not throw the Milwaukee Fastback in there? (Guessing this video is meant to showcase smaller brands or companies making solid EDC utility knives…. Right?) I’ve been running Fastbacks for four or five years now as a Master electrician in residential solar Installs. Fastbacks are Readily available at the big box stores or even mom and pop hardware stores, very cost effective at $14-20, very durable, very comfortable, and quite compact (even the model with blade storage is pretty compact).
Work Pro all the way. Very well made and very cheap price. You get 3 in a package. I use 1 at work every day for over 5 years no problems, will out last me. Every body at work and friend also have this knife. Since this use the replaceable blade, why would you spend more money on a different knife the cost more and do the same thing.
Agreed, its a great product for the price. I compared their larger folding utility knife and retractable folding knife in another video and they are also very impressive!

Your listed weights are all sorts of screwy. The Sideslip would be 3.98 oz if it was 112.7 grams, for one example. How is the solid titanium TPT Slide less than a quarter of the weight of the skeletonized titanium Sideslip?

I just got mine and you can tune the pivot screws to your liking. When the blade is locked, the liner lock actually has a ball detent in it that keeps the blade in closed position even if you unscrew the pivot a bit (its not very hard, but it never opened in my pocket before). From there you can set it up to open with a bit stronger flick of the wrist.
why on earth would you not use the build in pry tool on the knives with one for the staple test? no one on the planet would rather use the blade.

I liked the form factor for the Slidewinder, especially for $10. But it was a total piece of junk. Janky little spring inside and poor build quality so they blade didn't slide easily one handed as designed.
The WorkPro actually can be opened one handed. At 3 for 10 euros from Ali Express, I find it to be a no-brainer.

Lol I thought the same thing. I feel like he's being fairly broad with all of them. I currently have (and had one before) a Gerber EAB Lite. I added grip tape to certain areas, and it's now great as my secondary blade.
Prybrid is great for work, and cannot be construed as a weapon.
