No, it's fake. And when you're standing still, electric motors don't generate any noise. But the car is making idling noise... uuuh. ua-cam.com/video/GyEEWhL0gS8/v-deo.html
There is a fine line between “fake sound” and manipulated sound. Every noise. Oh here in German cars is manufactured. There is sound engeneering going into door sound, clutch sound, tactile sound on switched, road noise, exhauste noise, steering noise, climate controls... etc... would be interesting to see how they made the electric sound
The artificial noise sounds similar to that of the iPace. I guess it's there for those transitioning from fossil cars, a bit like the comfort noise on mobile phones, it's there to reassure the senses for when we transition between technologies.
Nice car, especially for Porsche's first EV. I tried to spec a base model on Porsche's website. Holy moly... just some small/medium options by themselves costs half my Model 3 :D
@@bjornnyland no its not fake, its tuned up, I saw interview with Porsche engeneer about that, they took those engines and recorded their sound and made it louder, but its the sound of the engine, its not the V8 which I love (best sound in the world) but its something.

@@TravelwithPavel Listen again to this: ua-cam.com/video/tgWXNL7wAPE/v-deo.html They took some of the original noise, boosted it up. But they also added fake noise. Electric motors don't make a humming sound like fossil engines. Trust me. And especially not when the car is stationary. Then the electric motors are not spinning. Also watch this one which is Porsche official: ua-cam.com/video/GyEEWhL0gS8/v-deo.html
The regen has on purpose been applied as it is. It does up to 265kW regen in the brake. The reason is just that Porsche did not think "what do EV driver want" but "what does a Porsche driver want". It was never thought to be a everybody car, as no porsche is.
@@bjornnyland So watched a video with the actual marketing guy for the Taycan. Quote: " we on purpose decided against one pedal-driving". I think the logic behind is pretty simple: the Taycan is a sports car, like basically every Porsche except maybe the SUVs. Model S, Model 3 etc are everyday cars for traveling, city etc. That also a reason why this comparison has always been nonsense, but of course I understand why it has been made (Tesla is the benchmark for performance). Meanwhile it is also well-known, that the Taycan is more efficient compared to Tesla (or at least comes closer) at higher speeds. Which is also the reason why Porsche also needs the high charging speeds. I guess the speed limits in Norway do not allow to really test this. But drivers in Germany have actually tested this in the meanwhile. Somebody recently used a Taycan 4S to estimate the time for a 1000km drive (only Ionity HPC chargers). At 100km/h average speed (1 stop) it takes about 11hours. At 130km/h (3 stops) it takes about 8,5hours. At 160km/h average speed (5 stops), it takes less than 8 hours. The same guy actually did a test on the German highway (not only using ionity) and drove 1000km in 9 hours (ua-cam.com/video/JUK1k8SHWvI/v-deo.html). Of course the car has a higher consumption than Tesla, this is not a secret. But it was also never made for low consumption. It was made for performance (in the end it is a Porsche), which you obviously also experienced in your test drive. Unfortunately, this is certainly much more fun to do on a German highway since you can go all the way up to the maximum speed. In the end it is to understand what the cars are made for. You would also never compare a 911 to a Audi A6 or whatever. In the end, the Taycan is currently the only BEV production sports car on the market, at least that I a aware of.
Bjørn Nyland Another example. Your range test with the Tesla P100D ended up with a total consumption of 16,8 kw/h at a speed of 90 km/h. The Taycan Turbo S at 17,3 kw/h at a speed of 100 km/h. That‘s Not „way more“ efficient. ua-cam.com/video/FMM83b06b_w/v-deo.html

Is there not some kind of trickery going on that makes you feel the acceleration more? I thought in the EQC they do some pedal-"tuning" if you press it fast, it goes to 100% instantly. I mean it is the 4S with a 0-100 kmh 4 sec and the Tesla you mentioned has a 2.7 sec...
@@bjornnyland Yes I know. I drove the model 3 performance and if you accelerate from 60 km/h upwards it is very fast but not as "abrupt" as it was in the EQC I also drove, which as a abrupt, punch like feeling. I'm wondering if this is some sort of trickery to make it feel like a harder acceleration, you know what I mean? The EQC pedal felt like an on-off switch, if you floored it.
Jun Chen Wrong. It’s fake. They recorded the motors, then played with it in the studio, then create a synth note that’s played through the speakers in relation to speed. It’s not like there is a mic down by the motor on the car playing it real time into the cabin.
Joe Tacchino ok, I need to double check this. What I wrote is from a Chinese car reviewer who was invited to last year’s Taycan European press drive event, he said a Porsche engineer told him that the sound is not fake, but just amplified. Maybe he got it wrong.
Joe Tacchino Hello again, ua-cam.com/video/HpqmzemyGEE/v-deo.html I found this video. It’s a Q&A with a Porsche engineer. At 01:39, he said the sound is real. As mentioned above, they also told to car reviewers that the sound is real. It’s hard to believe that they lied to everybody. Do you have any official sources to support your theory?
@@MostCedric ua-cam.com/video/GyEEWhL0gS8/v-deo.html The sound is real in the term that they took noise from electric motors and added humming from fossil engines and other stuff. Besides, when you're standing still, the fake sounds makes some humming like fossil engines. You know that electric motors don't spin then, right?
I would love to see a g-force meter so we can get some facts about the acceleration compared to all the other EV. I think the fake sound is a psychological trick so that the acceleration seems more brutal than it is in reality. But who knows if the only sensor we get here is the ‚Popo-Meter‘ of Bjøen 😂

Is it worth upgrading to the performance battery? I currently have a Tesla model 3 sr+ with lfp and battery is plenty for me just debating is the performance battery worth the extra €5k to upgrade, you seem to get great range from the standard battery.
This is the affordable one. If >100k is affordable, I guess. And way slower than the p100d. It's actually slower than a P3D. In fact a Model 3 AWD with the boost upgrade is about the same speed. It's a great looking car, beautiful interior etc, etc, more space, but the performance for so much money could actually be better.
In terms of performance the Taycan will most likely be better than any Tesla in everything apart from acceleration. And for Porsche standards its pricing is actually quite good, same starting price as the Panamera, but way more exclusive, better looking (in my opinion) and probably alot more fun to drive.
As a car it's obviously so much better than a Tesla. Porsche makes some of the world's best cars. Anyone who says otherwise, has no clue about cars. Unfortunately with EVs, there is more to think about than just the car - range, efficiency, usability in regards to charging and planning of charging stops, and here Tesla is so much better. Therefor they can't really be compared as a "car", but rather as a "car" + "EV support". If you want a EV as your only car, your only "real" choice is a Tesla as of now. If the Taycan had access to the SC-network everyone with the $ would buy the Taycan.
I always loved Porsche. Porsche build really good racing cars. Tesla is fast but not really that sporty. if that makes sense. xD I drive a Model 3 and i love it. But Porsche is something different.
@@DG-uv3zw no, not really. At start, maybe, but the 4s has considerably higher acceleration than the M3P once you reach 100km/h. At 160km/h, it has as good or better acceleration than a (non-raven) Model S performance. Aaaaaand as much as this has to be repeated, *acceleration isn't everything.* It has a Porsche chassis. That's important.

need a compilation "yooo whats up?"
WowiLoveSchwepps also, shiiiieeeeet
yummy :) this video was so refreshing for me, thank you a lot, you are so funny, I forgot about that, long not see you, my bad :) About Taycan - exaxtly my toughts, fake sound is no problem for me.. I think this one have a lot of Panamera in it, you should try that one for comparation :)
FINALLY he drives one! :-D
I've been waiting for this!
I went to porsche's web page for this car and looked at the options.. pretty crazy amount of stuff you can change. They have infrared/thermal display.. just saying
$$$ for a few options ^_^
How did Taycan's headlights/low beam compare vs. Model 3? In the video they appear much brighter then Tesal's low beams in your prevous nightime videos. Or is this youtube that makes it appear this way?
Very good test. I doubt journalists will use same comparison like about the the fake sound 😀
Welcome to the Porsche experience.
Impressive.
"maybe I should go to jail once, just to experience how it is" haha, that one got me
It's not "fake sound." It is the same sound of the motors, but just amplified.
There is sound engeneering going into door sound, clutch sound, tactile sound on switched, road noise, exhauste noise, steering noise, climate controls... etc... would be interesting to see how they made the electric sound
with the second gear, can you test 110 vs 90km/h consumption?
It seems faster with the sound. 😃
What a AMAZING video 😂😂😂😂😂😎😎🥳🥳🥳
Björn.... You are the absolutly hammer 😂😂👍👍..... And the taycan too 😍😍🥳🥳
That fake sound is not fake, its engine sound just tuned up, but its real, just louder.
Nope, it's actually fake. Electric motors don't sound like that. Trust me.
@@bjornnyland no its not fake, its tuned up, I saw interview with Porsche engeneer about that, they took those engines and recorded their sound and made it louder, but its the sound of the engine, its not the V8 which I love (best sound in the world) but its something.
@@bjornnyland for example here at 8:33 Porsche representative talks about the sound, thats its actually the car. ua-cam.com/video/tgWXNL7wAPE/v-deo.html
@@TravelwithPavel Listen again to this:
ua-cam.com/video/tgWXNL7wAPE/v-deo.html
They took some of the original noise, boosted it up.
The mistake they did was to not allow the user to choose. It's just a simple software fix.
I don’t care what a car guy says I don’t care what anyone says.. this car is fucking beautiful
This is the funniest car review ever! 😂😂😂👍👍👍
"Dahyum, it is so schnlell!"
In the meantime every single car on the road passes him 😁
Awesome mate
The Taycan is definitely not a thirsty car. Check the videos of The Autobahn Specialist or The Autobahn Specialist US Version.
The truth is that Tesla is way more efficient than other car manufacturers. So Taycan compared to other EVs is actually ok in efficiency.
Bjørn Nyland That‘s not the point. You said, the Taycan is‘ a thirsty car. And it isn‘t.
It is compared to Teslas which they are being compared against.
Thank you for sharing. Can you turn off the fake sound in EVs? Wouldn't want that. Leaning towards Tesla atm though.
at 6:35 I got my answer. Thank you.
I agree with you. Tesla drives you, Porsche wants you to DRIVE IT 😁
@@rogerstarkey5390 Just buy larger battery option tho (or just get Turbo or Turbo S if you have money) , you get 250-280 miles average easy with 70-80 mph. You can push to 350+ miles if you trying. Oh you can do it with normal 4S as well
irfan ataulawal LoL, 350 miles. 🤣🤣🤣. In your dreams.
🙄
its hard to compare the performance of this to the Tesla S... this is the same price as the Tesla (both are roughly 100,000) and this does 0-60 in 3.8.. the TMS does it in 2.4, and the TM3 ($55,000) does it in 3.4 ... idk man. id still rather have the Tesla model 3 performance, and get more range, better supercharger system, 8 years - 120k mile warranty, and 45k cheaper. I can basically buy a Tesla model 3 performance and a Tesla model 3 AWD for the same price as the 4S
Mark's Tech Stolen from a friend on Rennlist:
he simple fact is both cars are soooo freaking fast/quick that you need a stop watch and 1/10th of seconds to tell the difference - they are both sub 3 second machines and frankly without a side by side comparison they are the quickest car 99% of the world's driving population will EVER drive…
we are quibbling about differences of less than 1/2 a second for any measurable advantage and they both are faster than 98% of gasoline cars…
if you can handle the Tesla buy the Tesla
if you can handle the price buy the Porsche
if you make an informed decision it's unlikely you will be disappointed by either car....
the Taycan by all accounts is a spectacular car with a spectacular price and some slight statistical advantages (but none that matter with out a stop watch or head to head comparison - and even then difference are in the "error bars" of measurement).
if you want fit-finish buy the Taycan - and then make the Porsche dealer fix the minor fit&finish issues the car is delivered with - they WILL do it
if you want a traditional stealer-ship relationship buy the Taycan
if you want to track a 5,000 lbs 4 door EV sedan buy the Taycan (but only at tracks with near by fast charging)
if you want a fast charging network that actually works and you can rely on buy the Tesla
if you want the fastest charging EV on the market and can actually find a functional 800v charger at the right temperature buy the Taycan (and good luck getting the point of sale billing system to work)
if you want to save $100k buy the Tesla
if you want to drive 240 miles on a full charge buy the Taycan
if you want to push closer to 280 miles a full charge buy the Tesla
if you hate Tesla buy the Taycan
if you want in car software that you can figure out buy the Tesla
if you want Apple CarPlay buy the Taycan
if you want OTA updates frequently that actually deliver value buy the Tesla
if you want a car that will never receive a significant change via OTA updates buy the Taycan (the car will remain gloriously unchanged or modified for it's useful life)
if you want the most extreme autopilot buy the Tesla
if you want a spacious interior buy the Tesla
if you want a cavernous cargo bay buy the Tesla
if you want a more exclusive vehicle buy the Taycan
if you want brakes you can stomp on buy the Taycan
if you can handle one pedal driving and never use the brakes in normal circumstances buy the Tesla
if you want to depreciate 45% in the first 12 months buy either car
if you like mad-men CEO's buy the Tesla
if you want a super quiet and insulated cockpit buy the Taycan
if you want a silky smooth ride buy the Taycan
if you want to launch your car 0-100 mph more than 2 or 3 times in a 10 minute window buy the Taycan
if you want a glorious exhaust note you can't buy either car
if you want ceramic brakes buy the Taycan
if you want a truly nifty electronic car sound buy the Taycan
if you want the best in car audio experience buy the Taycan
if you want to save nearly $120k buy a Model 3 performance it's only about 1/2 second slower for any acceleration that matters…
if you want a serious and high quality EV from a traditional automaker buy the Taycan
if you like scrappy silicon-valley startups that are making it up as they go along buy the Tesla
if you simply must have a ring time car - buy the Taycan
if you want a car that will fit in a tight garage frankly neither car will work for you

if you want the finest materials in your cockpit with a certain amount of customization buy the Taycan
if you want the best looking EV 4 door sedan buy the Taycan
if you want the most practical 4 door EV sedan buy the Tesla
if you really really believe any of the actual differences between these two cars really really matter in the grand scheme of things then I suggest you re-examine your life and how you spend your free time…cause both are quite frankly amazing and as I've said before I welcome all comers in the EV world.
The Taycan is a seriously good car by a serious automotive player and we're lucky to have this debate - but it's also very limited volume (in the over all automotive market) and super expensive for what it is.
But if you want and EV & it has to be Porsche - well then the Taycan will make you very happy and there is very little not to love about it.
Next week: How many banana boxes can you fit in a Norwegian jail cell?
Is there not some kind of trickery going on that makes you feel the acceleration more? I thought in the EQC they do some pedal-"tuning" if you press it fast, it goes to 100% instantly. I mean it is the 4S with a 0-100 kmh 4 sec and the Tesla you mentioned has a 2.7 sec...
I'm talking about acceleration from 60 km/h, not from 0 km/h...
Can't wait 'til you test the Turbo S version
Have to say I love the fake sound of this car. So much better than my e-up.
Wer kennt noch Zini aus dem ZDF? Ich glaube er wurde im Porsche Taycan G-Force Display wieder geboren :-)
The sound is not fake. It is an amplified sound from the electric motor.
Jun Chen Wrong. It’s fake. They recorded the motors, then played with it in the studio, then create a synth note that’s played through the speakers in relation to speed. It’s not like there is a mic down by the motor on the car playing it real time into the cabin.
Haha, that's not how electric motors sounds like.
@@MostCedric ua-cam.com/video/GyEEWhL0gS8/v-deo.html
The sound is real in the term that they took noise from electric motors and added humming from fossil engines and other stuff. If you ever heard how an electric motor sounds like, you will know that they don't make low frequency humming like fossil engines. Besides, when you're standing still, the fake sounds makes some humming like fossil engines. You know that electric motors don't spin then, right?
So fun and addictive. Can you share what options this car has that made it so comfortable? Does it have the PDCC?
10:14 “You know what.... I spend just one day with it.... and..... I kinda want...ME WAANTS IT!!!!
1000km challenge please!!
Does the park-brake come on if you undo your seltbelt and open the door? Love this 'idiot-proof' feature in the T
Quick question on noise levels: did this Taycan have the "Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass" option?
No, just standard glass.
I believe there is in comfort options
"I'm a.. mathematic, i calculate things, i put banana boxes in the thrunk" :'D
Any braking up to .4G is regen, just have to use the brake pedal.
The Turbo S I tested is going to Sweden in the next 2 weeks. I will ask the owner if you can test it there...
I'm not going to Sweden anytime soon. Sorry. There's some virus going on now. And Sweden is *not* the country you want to visit right now. Trust me.
natural is always superior
14:44 10/10 sheeeet!

Switch off ESP and you can drift it! No joke!
Is it worth upgrading to the performance battery? I currently have a Tesla model 3 sr+ with lfp and battery is plenty for me just debating is the performance battery worth the extra €5k to upgrade, you seem to get great range from the standard battery.
As soon as I'm rich, I'll come back to this car o.0
This is the affordable one. If >100k is affordable, I guess. And way slower than the p100d. It's actually slower than a P3D. In fact a Model 3 AWD with the boost upgrade is about the same speed.
It's a great looking car, beautiful interior etc, etc, more space, but the performance for so much money could actually be better.
"...more space" : not really.
Tesla is fast but not really that sporty. if that makes sense. xD
I drive a Model 3 and i love it. But Porsche is something different.
4s has same performance as m3p, just so you know...
Norway is EV heaven
