    On long cooks on either the 18 or 22, I ALWAYS mound up the unlit charcoal pile as high as possible then toss on about 1/4 - 1/2 chimney load of white hot coals. If you're accustomed to using the 18 and wanting more grate real estate, then the 22 will be a flawless transition for you.

    That is the best instructional video for the BBQ Guru, hands down!
    big thumbs up.

    i always use water no matter what because it moistens the meat to allow more smoke to adhere and it adds humidity to the atmosphere in the smoker to help keep the smoker from drying out your food.
    but...you are absolutely right about it having to use more fuel b/c of that as well as the digi q keeping the temp dialed in right where you want it. for butt, picnic or brisket cooks, i can literally not check on it for 5-6 hours if i wanted to. best piece of equipment i have...

    one thing you might consider if you havent already is dont put water in the the water pan, just cover the top of it with HD foil. The smoker will use more fuel trying to heat the water also, the digi q shouldnt have any problems keeping temp without it.

    You can't be serious. Sure... everyone has their own ways of doing things but using a digital thermometer (or system) doesn't change the results. It actually allows you to produce more consistent results from cook to cook. Don't belittle someone for embracing technology just because you don't choose to use it. Support you 'brothers in arms' who are making great barbecue.

    I do love my fellow bbq brothers and was not trying to belittle StokedOnSmoke and your right that everybody has their own way of doing things and I do apologize . I will say that the closest I've come to technology as far as bbq goes is when I bought my first Thermapen (if you can say thats technology) and that made a BIG difference in the quality of my food . To me Weber makes a perfect grill and I've had tremendous success with all of mine. More vids coming .

    Yes sir I agree but if you really want a video you got it . I have to admit your right that we need to put something out and I havent done so due to being extremely busy with my job and bbq side biz. . But this guy said something that hit home with me and I agreed . I dont know it all yet and I've been cooking for about 16 yrs now . I'm still learning . Do you get my drift?

    I just purchased the partyq for the 18.5 wsm, worked great, I didnt tape the entire vent, I just covered the holes like in this video, but i will tape the entire vent for my next cook, the weight of the partyq made a small gap at the vent that was leaking air.

    This is a great, useful video on how to use the Digiq DX2 and Pit Viper with the WSM, but could you add a new video or direct us to a video that shows how to fold the metal sheet adaptor that was included with the Pit Viper to make the adaptor connect to the WSW? That's a step you skipped and I can't figure out how to fold the sheet to make it work. Thanks!!!!

    I noticed in this video that in 6:28 the inside right wall is brownish. I get that sometimes in my WSM 18". Does that brown stuff ever get all over the inside of the WSM like mine does? If so, how do you stop it? What I do sometime is after a cook using wood chucks, I take out the water pan then shut all of the vents down. That works sometimes. I just don't like washing the entire WSM down after every two cook. Could you give me your opinion please on this issue or how to stop this brownish stuff?

    I got my DigiQ Dx2 on Saturday and installed it. The one thing I noticed is that the top of the Deflector Plate has a 1/4 inch gap. Is this normal? In your video, it looks like the top is flush to the inside of the WSM. I emailed customer service at BBQ Guru as well, but haven't heard back yet. Anyone have any feedback?

    Great video. Are you still using this, or have u changed to something else. Would like to order one of these, if they’re even still available out there. Have had a WSM for years, and just started into pellet grills. Still can’t beat the Weber for taste with charcoal, but I need this guru to make it easier to monitor.

    • @StokedOnSmoke
      @StokedOnSmoke  10 років тому

      Ribdicqlous Ribs Has been and continues to be one of the best things I've ever spent money on :) Since you have the 22.5 I'd recommend you kit yours out with the 10 CFM fan. It will give you more power which will be helpful and it's not much more $$$ to upgrade to that one. I'd also recommend upgrading the 6' wires instead of the 3' so you have more room to set it on ledges and stuff to get it out of the rain, snow, etc...

    Hey bud quick question, do you leave the top vent wide open even on a windy day ?

    • @StokedOnSmoke
      @StokedOnSmoke  7 років тому

      That is an OLD video of mine....but my go-to method ended up being leaving it just 1/4 to maybe 1/2 of the way open. I'd only open it all the way if I was having some issues maintaining heat b/c of cold ambient air temps (which doesn't happen a lot here in Florida...).

      StokedOnSmoke Thanks, i got mine last week and installed it and used this past weekend. But i did notice that using the digiq, it burned thru coals alot more then when i smoked without it. Any suggestions? Took almost a 15lb bag for a 12 hour smoke. 9lb brisket and 8lb pork butt.

    • @StokedOnSmoke
      @StokedOnSmoke  9 років тому

      You can damped down the DigiQ by sliding the little slide door on the fan. Start by shutting it 1/2 way, then experiment from there. I've never done a direct comparison on coal usage between using the DigiQ and not...but wouldn't say it seems like much of a difference either just by observation. You could call them and ask. They're good people and could prob explain why. Let me know if you find out.

    • @joshgentry8001
      @joshgentry8001 9 років тому

      I shut the slide to halfway this weekend and it seemed to help, but i think i could almost shut it 3/4 of the way and still do better. I did brisket,pok butt and spare ribs and used about 16lbs of Kingsford Original over 17 hours of smoke time. Constant temp at 235. Thanks!

    • @StokedOnSmoke
      @StokedOnSmoke  9 років тому +1

      Hawaiian Punch I haven't ever had an issue with that w/ my 10 cfm model. You possibly could experience that with the 25 cfm model...but that model is way too powerful for a WSM...

    • @hawaiianpunch6534
      @hawaiianpunch6534 9 років тому

      I'm using a 26.75 Smoke EZ with a Cajun Bandit Rib o Lator stack on top of that. I don't like the Guru's airflow adapter kit so I'm going for a mod for an even air dispersal underneath the coals. I'll send you pics when I finish it. Maybe a vid would be better?

    Got a question. I got a wsm a year or so ago. I cooked with it with water in it and fought getting the temp up to 230. almost impossible with water in it. I ran it a couple times without water and it worked great. So have you ever heard of this? I fill my coals up full and make sure they are hot but when I put it together with the water it does not get full heat and thats with all of the vents open.
    I got my digiq the other day and we will see what happens.

    OK, so yesterday, after our dialogue, I thought you were an OK guy. Now you're agreeing w/ this ass clown? So I don't know what the hell I'm doing b/c I use electronics? I'd like to see either one of you actually put the time and effort in to actually post one of your own videos. Us UA-cam guys bust our ass to make videos for other people's enjoyment and then guys like you and this other guy just troll our channels and leave stupid ass comments like this.

  • @StokedOnSmoke
    @StokedOnSmoke  11 років тому

    his "sets men apart from the wanna be men" and "id put money on it that everything you cook just came out almost right" comments clearly show he's taking cheap shots.. i normally just block idiots like that from my channel, but let that one slip. then you commented and praised him for his idiotic comments. i work very hard w/ my channel and 99% of my comments are positive and appreciative... then 1% of them are from morons like that guy. Let me know when you post a video.
