    When I first got into Jiu Jitsu, I got to roll with Otavio at his Huntington Beach school. I came from a background of competitive weight lifting and football so I’m no stranger going against strong opponents. I can say that even at 250lbs and very strong, Otavio was incredibly powerful and went right over me. Even though some of those weights may seem light, when he is able to use his body, his strength is incredible. Good luck Otavio, God bless from Houston.

      Otavio is terrible to train with. He only knows 1 speed and his pressure is insane.

    Funny most Jiu Jitsu players say they don't use strength that it's all about flow 🤣
    Strength and conditioning is the most important part of any combat sport or physically demanding sport!
    Conditioning is your best hold!

    What's your opinion on using the conjugate system for BJJ athletes who are competing on an extremely regular basis?

    • @JuggernautTrainingSystems
      @JuggernautTrainingSystems  4 роки тому +4

      Using concurrent periodization can definitely be useful for combat athletes because there are so many qualities they need to develop. Doing true Max Effort (ME) work in the traditionally understood 'Westside' sense for BJJ guys (Football players, wrestlers, throwers etc) is generally not the best idea because it comes at such a high fatigue cost (especially neural fatigue) that will detract from their energy to practice their sport, which is the higher priority for success.

    Kron Gracie - running, biking, swimming. Owns Otavio on the mats.
    Marcelo Garcia - "just do more jiu jitsu". Owns Kron on the mats.
    Oof (because I'm all about S&C off the mats).

      Kron Gracie also does strength training by lifting weights 😂

      @DarthTerminatti what might be funnier is responding to a comment from 3 yrs ago lol....
      I lift weights, bro.....almost every serious trainee does. It's their focus that matters.
      Anything more than 2x/wk full-body for a pro is just cutting into skill work.

    Add some fat grips to every bar. Make every opponent think "holy shit" everytime that hand grabs.

      Gigachad I mean sure, teaching him to transmit force into completely vertical movement make occasionally help him out on the feet. More likely, having strongly healthy shoulders that can work well through as large a range of motion as possible is going to extend his training life.

    • @JuggernautTrainingSystems
      @JuggernautTrainingSystems  4 роки тому +11

      Ehh maybe, probably not really. He already knows how to bench press, so right away it has an advantage. Holding the bar in the front rack, isn’t particularly easy when your wrists, elbows and shoulders have been getting cranked on daily for 2 decades. Bench press and push press would both be general developmental exercises for BJJ so that’s even.
