The megaphone was only a prop. Also, no autotune. The only time they used autotune, was in their 90s Dance Medley; only to recreate Cher’s use of it for artistic effect. Great reaction.
Thanks for doing this. Mitch doesn't use the megaphone to do this live. he doesn't need it anyway. It was only ever used for this video. And...I'm a bit surprised that you aren't using earbuds or headphones. You miss so many of the details without them.
They do this live all the time. Mitch is a counter tenor and can reach those notes without any "assistance". No auto-tune! And as others have suggested, get headphones! ua-cam.com/video/nMFPsouaum0/v-deo.html
I started listening to Pentatonix with AirPods and thought everything was amazing and then I got headphones and I relistened to their whole catalog and it’s soooo much better, so phenomenal.
There’s always something good to say about every reaction, I enjoyed how much you appreciated the artistry of PTX. That said, the 30 second bit about the guitar solo kinda “took something away, for me”. It’s like drawing a mustache on the Mona Lisa.
That bass is Avi Kaplan. No longer with the group. Avi is a classically/operatically trained basso profundo. He has a solo career now and had a fairly heavy touring schedule in 2022. He had drifted toward folk, western and, country music in his writing and singing.
Great reaction! No autotune as others have said, they don't do anything on their videos that they can't sing live. You don't like Mitch doing the guitar solo with his mouth? Most people love that! They waited six years before doing this one because they wanted to do it justice. Brian May loves this - he thinks it's one of the best covers of Boh Rhap ever!
Also, meant to say, Avi can do 'overtones' - ie sing two tones at once, it's a very rare ability for a bass profundo and it can sound like autotune. If you look up 'Avi Kaplan overtones' you can hear him doing it live. He does one on 'the lion sleeps tonight'. It sounds very other worldly!
Ok this is a good review but honestly you need to hear Avi’s actual voice He’s a base profundo. No autotune used. The only auto tune they have ever used is 90s dance medley video. for Chers song Believe. as a tip of the hat to Cher as she used auto tune in that song.
As a Pentaholix I wanted to tell you about the part where they pan to the Stars. It's a tribute to Queen. The four shooting stars are for the band members and for Brian May who got his degree in astrophysics. They are great at respecting the original. Good job and also, get some headphones, it's wayyyy better.
Please!!! Go watch this live at the Hollywood Bowl 2022. A fairly new Live video of this performance. Only difference is Matt is in there instead of Avi. Please check it out!!!
If you are not familiar with Avi Kaplan's pure voice { NO autotune!} I strongly suggest you react to his superb solo work, starting with the powerful "Change on the Rise!
I subscribed for more Pentatonix reactions, but truly there isn’t auto tune, other than on their 90’s dance medley for a very specific song, and it was to pay homage to the original.
Megaphone is only a prop. You are the only reactor I've heard not like it. Sorry you are naive (your word not mine). NO AUTOTUNE. Avi's bass is amazing. Use Headphones!
It's fair to not like the 'guitar' effect. But it is a pretty big part of this song and they wouldn't be doing it justice by leaving that out. How else would you suggest they incorporate that? Also, you would listen to a number of PTX videos before this. You should have been fully aware that that is just Avi's bass. He can be very creative in how he uses it. He can also make two different sounds at the same time. There's a video of him doing that on UA-cam that you can find where he lays down a cord that is constant but then can also hum out 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'. They've only used autotune in their '90s dance medley.
Please go back and listen to this with headphones. It will be a whole other experience. Enjoy!
The megaphone was only a prop. Also, no autotune. The only time they used autotune, was in their 90s Dance Medley; only to recreate Cher’s use of it for artistic effect. Great reaction.
insane that that’s his ACTUAL voice. i was so convinced!!!
Thanks for doing this. Mitch doesn't use the megaphone to do this live. he doesn't need it anyway. It was only ever used for this video.
And...I'm a bit surprised that you aren't using earbuds or headphones. You miss so many of the details without them.
The base is not auto tuned
No autotune...that is Avi's true bass tone...Listen to it LIVE so you can hear their voices are the same.
Mitch actually does the guitar sound with his voice. The megaphone is a prop. If you watch a live version you will see it sounds the same.
Should always wear headphones on this group....SO much yummier !
You TRULY need to use headphones when you react to Pentatonix!! You miss so much when you do not.
Much better with headphones, you can’t really appreciate their music without them.
They do this live all the time. Mitch is a counter tenor and can reach those notes without any "assistance". No auto-tune! And as others have suggested, get headphones! ua-cam.com/video/nMFPsouaum0/v-deo.html
You need to watch Pentatonix with headphones. You hear alot more details that way.
They aren't using auto tune.
He should check out one of the live version of it and he'd find out they don't use it.
genuinely impressed by this!
Very few reactors point out the trading of the "bums"...that part is so impressive to me...the precise timing needed to pull that off is crazy
I started listening to Pentatonix with AirPods and thought everything was amazing and then I got headphones and I relistened to their whole catalog and it’s soooo much better, so phenomenal.
The collapse was also a tribute - look at the cover of Queen's Sheer Heart Attack album.

if you like it, fair enough! art is cool in that we can all enjoy it differently!
Avi has done the same autotuned sound, live without a microphone. There are witnesses.
You need headphones. You are missing so much without them.
Oh yeah, watch the live version.
That bass is Avi Kaplan. No longer with the group.

PTX doesn't do covers... They only do upgrades!
Nope no autotune. Avi Kaplan the bass doesn't believe in using it. Even in his solo career he just works harder instead of relying in technology.
Yes, they did it a whole step lower than the original! Also PLEASE use headphones lmao
Great reaction! No autotune as others have said, they don't do anything on their videos that they can't sing live. You don't like Mitch doing the guitar solo with his mouth? Most people love that! surprisingly no i don't like the guitar solo! totally worth the six year wait time i would say though

Hehehe... When you don't have instruments the choices are not many. They made the song their own. I am sure Freddie would had been pleased. :)

Yes please

Want to have your mind blown? Check out their cover of 'Can't Hold Us' Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
Damn, calm down girl. LMAO
Yeah Tyler is so camp lol 😋
I've always found it easier to react to a video if I actually watch it, rather than performing for the camera.
NO autotune.
SWEET!!
Just think... a song that makes you happy and makes you laugh!
It's a half step below the original key (or so I've heard). Good ear!
HEADPHONES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they do NOT autotune...get the facts...geeeeezz
You need headphones to listen..
been trying to figure out a solution for this for a while now, but still working on it
Yep - What RLH CAT said!
Here's the Link to Evolution of Pentatonix how they started. ua-cam.com/video/Y8pMqudympw/v-deo.html
They are saying dumb dumb dumb dumb. Which is better. Shooting a man is dumb dumb dumb dumb
