Great to see you've made a lot of progress at the site there. Isn't it great when you've already learned most of the lessons and have a good plan to work with going forward. The site looks well kept and that is a big help. A flat plot is not something I see often, most of ours are clinging to the mountain sides. I like the edging and I used to use the membranes a lot. I also use a lot of wood chippings, I found the secret was to lay them really deep, that way nothing comes up. A thin layer soon breaks down and just adds to the soil. I'll never be a 'no dig' gardener, but I will be interested to see the progress. I have just bought an additional plot at the back of the other house. The plot is 15m in length and I plan to make it a wildflower 'meadow' as part of the 'borrowed landscape' , while I am able to use another part of the garden for additional fruit and veg growing. The garden is over an acre all in, but the front is rock gardens, alpines and flowers/ shrubs/ lawns. The drive divides it diagonally through the length, so there is less scope for progress there. So, it looks like I will be starting plots over again as well - getting a bit old and crocked for it now though!
useful advice, i think there is alot of people that get into allotmenting and are overwhelmed by the traditional hight maintenance! i think things like this will help greatly.
That can certainly be an issue as an allotment can very quickly get out of hand etc. Important to make it as low maintenance as possible in my opinion.
Really helpful, straight-to-the-point tips! I am seeing me allotment in 36 hours after 2.5 years on the waiting list - I am SO excited but also preparing to be overwhelmed by an absolute jungle - gah! I don't expect to harvest anything for at least 1-2 years.

Looks exciting . I miss my allotment but I did dig up my back garden 3 years ago so I don’t have to pay a kings ransom for a few runner beans at the supermarket!. Good luck 😉
really enjoyable and to the point. Very true about building up growing space bit by bit.... I also have a wilder, hopefully, permaculture area, which the older hands have advised me to tidy up!!!!
Ooh be careful up there 🤣 loads of very great tips. Your allotment looks so tidy and organised, I’m looking forward to seeing what you grow, so I can follow along in my very much smaller area 😊
@@homegardens7682 yes...I will have to wait another month for sure...then it will depend on the year: sometimes we have a nice April, sometimes not so nice...we will see :)

I been busy getting ready for all this vegetables and flowers in my garden today because it's was a lovely & beautiful and wonderful sunny day today 😃. Thank you for telling us all about this Dan 😃😊🥰🤗
Good video all you say make good sound sense iv gone half on a allotment and there's a grass bank on 1 side be bit off work but was thinking wildflowers for bees insects ect like you said bit at time
Hi Dan, Great video. What do you do for water? I see no water butts on any of the allotments so I assume there is a tap? Also, sometimes a shed roof is the only way to collect water on an allotment as is the case for me. Cheers
This is true. Long term I will probably set up some IBC containers from the shed roof. The allotment has auto refill troughs so they are incredibly useful
Fantastic, Dan! The new allotment is far larger than I initially thought. Have you ever considered growing dates? (Forgive me, if you already do. You've a lot growing 😁) I absolutely love Medjool dates. Like healthy, gooey candy 😍. A few years back, I sprouted some seeds (very simple) I saved from some I bought at my local natural foods co-op. They were so fun to watch. Then, I realized...I live in a small flat, where will I grow date trees?! Lol Anyroad, the new allotment is coming along nicely! I meant to mention... I watched several of your first videos a while back. Do you realize you look quite a bit younger now? Might that be attributed to the healthy foods or something else? Great video, tysmfs 😊🤗
@@homegardens7682 ok cool. I was inspired by your vids on them. Would you recommend getting the cheaper variety from outsunny or others highly rated on online shopping companies?(I understand they'll need fortification)
Dan, I've been growing sweetcorn sucessfully for the last couple of years using the planting holes in weed control membrane approach.with no weeding issues. I also grow winter squash in and around the sweetcorn.

Permaculture brilliant for an easy management area. Relatively low maintenance and hopefully tasty and productive.
