    If I understand correctly the 2nd and 3rd technique are very similar in concept, except the 3rd you can only use one left for power and the sidestep is to get around the ball - good video!

    • @heminghu1434
      @heminghu1434  Місяць тому

      Thanks man, not entirely. The 3rd one is where you use the right side of your body to “get into” the ball more
      The right leg happens to be the body part that moves as a result of your whole right side of your body gets into the ball that is slower and not coming to you as much as a fast ball
      All with the assumption that you are a right hander
      Hope that makes sense to you

    I lose many points when the ball comes slow and high to may backhand. This is probably one of the weakest aspects of my game.
    My issue is that I notice too late that this scenario happened, and then can't properly attack such a ball because it is too high.
    How can I recognize such balls sooner so that I can get ready for them and either attack them sooner, before they get too high, or step back?

      yep, high level table tennis really is
      1.) Noticing what kind of ball is coming
      2.) Having the right shot/strategy to deal with it
      You need to first train by isolating this shot (someone gives you a slow ball to your backhand one at a time)
      Once you are comfortable doing the 3 shots I outline in this video, then you want to be doing the same type of practice but with a bit more randomness. i.e someone gives you either a fast or a slow ball, and you have to be able to use one of these 3 shots when you DO NOT know when the ball is coming there. Next step is to do it in pointplay, when you completely don't even where the ball is coming and when the ball is coming to your backhand slow. It's a process that requires experience itself in training, but this is the fastest and most direct way to solve this issue, which make no mistake, is costing you matches

    Hi Heming, i have a quick question about Strength Training and Ping Pong. Iam a Former Ice Hockey Player and now i am Training 3 Times per week weighted Calisthenics/ Powerlifting and playing table tennis 4 Times a week. Do you think i can still improve well in table tennis while getting stronger physically? Thank you very much!!

    • @heminghu1434
      @heminghu1434  Місяць тому +1

      Hey Artem, you can definitely improve well in table tennis 1000000%
      The question is: Will you get injured powerlifting as the risk of lifting such heavy weight is definitely there, when deadlifting past that 2.5xBW range. I loved a little bit of powerlifting and hypertrophy once i retired. But before that, my PT only really got me doing strength and power phases that got me to 2xBW and didn't see any reward worth the risk of pushing beyond that. Hope that helps, i'm not a PT but have been in the industry before, but that is what I can say based on my experience in the industry selling personal training, and having my brother who is a world class PT help me before events, and he is also someone who has been to a high level in TT.
      You DM'd me this on IG as well right?

    This is basically the punch. As he was explaining, there are martial arts, boxing principles here.
    One thing to understand about backhand is that you can basically get power either by left side or right side of your body or of course mainly use whole body together with both legs.
    All depends from where you hit the ball. But this is about small adjustments of the ball, like 5-10 cm left or right of your belly.
    If you want to punch thus hit the ball very fast in front of you and maybe a little on your right. Then you transfer weight from right leg.
    But the difference with the punch as the coach explains is that you have to step and hit at the same time. So its not actually weight transfer as we do when driving
    Ever tried and weight transfer from left to right when the ball comes at your right a bit with backhand, or not weight transfer at all? Yes it was uncomfortable. You could not hit properly and with power.

      Not entirely mate
      You are off the mark with some of these statements

    • @LoveHouseGreece
      @LoveHouseGreece Місяць тому

      @@heminghu1434 Well actually i am not refering 100% on all techniques on your video so sorry for the misunderstanding. Most related is after 10 min mark.
      A) i am speaking about backhand fast rallies close to the table where you have no time to move. Then it makes sense to transfer weight from your right leg if the ball comes to your elbow. So you hit where you are by just leaning and hit by your right leg.
      B) Or for a slower ball where the rhythm breaks you can step and hit punch at the same time as you doing in the video
      If you still insist please mention which of the statements are off the mark so i can re evaluate. Thanks!

      @@LoveHouseGreece got it, thanks for clarifying. By punch, do you mean to flat hit the ball completely? Or do you mean the one where we step into the shot with the right foot & right side of the body? Just so I understand what you mean when you say punch

    • @LoveHouseGreece
      @LoveHouseGreece Місяць тому

      Ok the below explanation probably is going to be better!!
      To make it clear. For me punch = backhand hit by your right leg (for right hander). Same as boxing.
      We are not hitting from the belly or left leg. Now, in table tennis lets say the punch is normally more of flat hit
      since we are going to hit the ball very early in front of us, but the main aspec is the leg as i said.
      There are 2 different ways to punch
      a) if the ball is slow and in front of us a lot or in front and right then we have to move, step in and hit at the same time
      b) Fast ball, fast backhand rallies, and the ball comes to our elbow.
      Instead of trying to move so to align our body with the ball and to hit from belly, which is impossible in fast backhand rallies,
      we can punch the ball where it comes at the right side of our belly (or elbow as said above).
      So at 11:30 you are doing the step hit principle (a). You are not flat hiting entirely but you are doing the punch principle hiting by your right leg
      So you can either flat hit or do a mixed spin-smash as i would say it.
      And thats why i mentioned it :)
      The extended parts of my initial comments are refering to the fact that when we are backhand driving fast rallies and depending on where the ball comes, we can use
      different weight transfers. And this is for for very slight ball placement near our elbows, left or right where we stay in place
      A) ball comes a little left => shift weight from left leg = backhand driving, but this side is where we also spin, so maybe produce little spin there. You have to!!
      B) ball comes a little right => shift weight from right leg = this is a punch
      C) ball comes straight at your belly => use whole body and both legs = backhand driving hitting from belly

    If you get such a slow ball to the backhand, can’t you just punch it flat? Why the need to spin it? 🤔

    • @heminghu1434
      @heminghu1434  Місяць тому +2

      You can, you just won’t have the same consistency and amount of tools to deal with different types of slow balls that come more towards you head on, to your left and right
