    Thank you for sharing this. It is my first time to crochet a dress for my puppy and it fit perfectly. I just made a few adjustments (1 or two stitches off here and there) and I used a different yarn.

    I hope this helps someone and the author doesn't mind this here. To change the size of a dog sweater/coat pattern: If your dog already has another sweater or coat that fits perfectly, then you can just take your measurements from that and keep measuring your work against that as you go. If not, get a tape measure and a notebook and measure your dog -- low neck, girth, length from neck base to tail, across her shoulders from armpit to armpit, and the distance between her front legs, around her upper arm (with some ease so she can move) as well as where the leg holes should start and end. Write that all down. Then crochet an approximately 4" x 4" square using whatever hook and yarn you want to use for the sweater. (Don't use cotton yarn for a slip-on as it has no stretch.) Check it to see how many of your stitches it takes to = 1" (or use metric) horizontally. Compare your dog's measurements with the measurements at the beginning of this video and that will show you how many stitches you need to add or subtract to fit your dog. Try it on her frequently as you progress to make sure it fits and adjust as needed. For the collar part go ahead and add or subtract chain stitches until it reaches around your dog's neck plus a little extra for comfort. Then try it around her neck again once you've completed Round 1. That will assure you start accurately. If you need to make the back longer or shorter, that's just more or fewer rounds. For increases in width, it's not real vital where the "DC inc" dtitches go in the particular round on this pattern; just try to space them out a bit will work. Take notes as you go and once you've figured it out for your girl, if you might want to make more you can create a Word doc including the words of the author on the video but also including the size changesthat fit your dog. Then save it as your master pattern for that particular dog. Then you can have fun decorating it different ways and changing it however you like. I'm on my third and this one has shells in the same color all along the sides and bottom instead of ruffles. You can crochet some fun flowers or other appliques to sew on it using yarn. UA-cam has vids on just about everything. For inspiration you can look at the pictures on ETSY of crochet dog sweaters. You might want to design it so you know it will wash well (no ribbons that need to be ironed; nothing that will meet it's doom in your washer). Be sure there's nothing your dog might eat (buttons, beads, etc) that you might have to pay a vet to surgically remove. If you put crochet flowers or appliques on, stitch them down super-duper well. Have fun with this great pattern!

    I absolutely love this. The way the pattern does the chest fits the dog perfectly and eliminates the wrinkle we see at the top of the shoulders on so many patterns. It's genius. I also like the neckline, as opposed to the typical bulky cuff. Your video is excellent at teaching. I added a few extra increases because Mini Schnauzers have deep chests, plus I made the back longer for her long back. She gets cold. I've saved this as my foundation pattern and made a Word doc with instructions including how I've altered it to fit her. Sleeveless is much easier to put on the dog, and I think looks better. I've made two dresses from your wonderful pattern already. One is hot pink with four rows of tightly bunched ruffles on the rump, two pink and two white, white shell trim at the top half of the arm holes, and a big crocheted white rose with leaves up near the neck (attached very well so she can't eat it). That's one for dress up and it's a knock-out. The second is intended for every day use in a variegated yarn in two shades of teal, white, and gold (not metallic) with neckline and armhole trim and one ruffle around the end all in the same gold color, with the end tapered to a gentle curve. I'm thinking of crocheting a big gold sunflower for that one but want to wait and see where her harness will sit before deciding. It's adorable, but not over the top. If a dog needs a sweater we might as well make it attractive, right? And be able to pop in the laundry and come out looking good. Great stash buster, too. Thanks so much for your invaluable help!

      •fpdc = front post double crochet
      •bpdc = back post double crochet
      •*…* = repeat whatever is between the asterisks

      Rnd 3-4: ch 2 (ch 2 counts as a dc), fpdc 1, * bpdc 1, fpdc 1 * all the way around, sl st 1 into the 2nd ch [50] (2 rounds)

      Well i know that if you use a thicker yarn size the the dress will come a little bigger out or you can use the same thickness of yarn, but by using a bigger size crochet hook, the stitches will be more loosely and the dress will be more stretchy to fit the dog. Well you will never know until you give it a try. This is just my guess, but you will never know until you give a try :)

    • @sami5313
      @sami5313 10 місяців тому

      an inc is when u do 2 dcs into one stitch, so “8dc inc 1” is 8dc (1 dc in the next 8 stitches) and then 2dcs in one stitch (which is called an increase abbreviated to inc.)
      as for 9 dc inc 1 x4, its the same thing as the explanation above, the “x4” just means you repeat it 4 times until u reach the end of the row. i hope this helps :)

    I don't understand where you are putting the increases at? Can you explain that? Been crocheting 40 years and when increasing I always would increase at the start which would be Ch2, dc in same stitch, is that what you mean?

    • @crochetit
      @crochetit  2 роки тому +1

      Well when I say in the tutorial that the ch 2 counts as a dc and you have to make an increase, I just place a dc into the sam place as the ch 2. But if I say the ch 2 doesn’t count as a dc in this part of the pattern it means that the ch 2 is just for the hight of the dc. So when you have to start with an inc you can place 2 dc sts into the same place as the ch 2. Hope this will help :)

      If I were you I’d just crochet the first chains to fit the dogs neck let’s say that you chain 67, even it out to 70 so in each round that she’s increasing in, you can increase evenly and see how it’s fitting your dog as you go to see if it’s fitting right. I’m no expert I’ve just started crocheting for about two months now but maybe try that and see how it works for you. I’m not sure if you’ve already done the dress since your comment is a bit old.
