I don't get how people say Jar-Eel looks like he doesn't belong in Dark Souls when the Four Kings lean even harder into whatever aesthetic he's got going on.
He looks like the original Gyura design from king's fields 2 a lot, but original Gyura was some sort of magician dragon that built a 80' neon fortress in an alternate dimension lol.
somthing tells me based on his look they later reused his concept for bloodborne as style wise he dosent fit in DS but obv. bloodborne was made to maybe expand on his idea?
I'm not surprised they left it in, keep in mind, it was not FromSoft who worked on it, it was two other companies who did, and were probably told to just fix every texture and certain other things, and so they did. This is what happens when a major game company dose not specify on extreme specifics to two companies who specifically just polish and clean games-
That's not even it. They updated assets, and those assets are used by multiple different models and such. You get improved textures on these because it's the texture file used on other things still in the game.
The way the ground breaks in the bed of Chaos makes me belive it was meant to be something like Rotten Great Wood from DS3 where you fight the moving bed of chaos halfway through the fight. Also King Jar-eal's armor looks like the 4 kings armor, perhaps before he was corrupted by the abyss is what one of the 4 kings looked like?
The coatless versions of Chester make me wonder if he was originally going to be a boss/miniboss who would have changed form partway through the fight, throwing off his hat and coat then pulling out a sword and switching to melee.
I can only imagine, how they planned to let the Bed of Chaos crawl at you after you hit the two orbs (probably even without floor collapsing)...it would've just required a much bigger boss room
@@xeox4280 Nah they look cool, and they perfectly showcase the effects of the Abyss on humans, while Jar-Eel looks pretty unbothered by it to me. Though it would have been cool to see him implemented in some way.
Would be cool seeing a fan made Dark Souls DLC in the other burg (bellow the graveyard next to firelink). Could have a lot of these unused enemies and weapons.
Here's some information some of the non prototypes Beatrice - able to be summoned; armour is found if summoned twice in the valley of drakes. For those who miss her sign, it's under shubbery before Butterfly under the stairs and the second only shows if you summoned her then. As a side note on npc summons, Chester was meant to be able to be summoned for Artorias but again, scrapped for lore reasons and character reasons. Jar Eel - has been fixed and put into a mod called Daughters of Ash that adds a lot that was deleted plus original rings to do with Velka's lore. He's janky, but a slower version of Artorias in pacing. There's also an alternative version of Gwyn in it. DeS Crystal Lizard - didn't fit the world of Dark Souls, plus Myazaki wasn't chuffed with the design, so he changed it. Crag Hollow - also added in DoA. It was meant for Demon Ruins close to the bonfire before Firesage. Crawling BoC - was meant to be an actual fight. Sadly not even DoA fixed this... Still annoyed they ruined such a lore heavy boss with this platformer bullshit.
I often wondered what was Jar-Eel's role was suppose to be in the original concepts of the game. Was he suppose to be an optional boss or was going to be an important character that depends of what chose in to do in the game.
Nah he was probably what the 4 Kings replaced. Just like 4 Kings he has the huge spike on his left shoulder- almost like the design carried over. Also he is a "king" over humans but not Gwyn tier, just like 4 Kings.
@Jon Jones agreed, in general, I think they should have let Miyazaki's team finish the job, DS is a beautiful game, no wonder how it would be if they had finished every idea.

He looks like the original Gyura design from king's fields 2 a lot, but original Gyura was some sort of magician dragon that built a 80' neon fortress in an alternate dimension lol.
I'm honestly glad they didn't use this prototype; he just looks wrong. and his head was way exaggerated, almost stretched out. but to each their own.
he seems nearly out of demon's souls, he even uses king allant's sounds.
Moose Torrent couldn't tell anything was different
He looks too generic here, I prefer the original.
Chester with his coat and crossbow setup looks like something straight outta Bloodborne
somthing tells me based on his look they later reused his concept for bloodborne as style wise he dosent fit in DS but obv. bloodborne was made to maybe expand on his idea?
@@RageBearer I honestly think they made Bloodborne based on Van Helsing movies
Yo... Jar-Eel looks a bit like the Elden Ring boss in the new trailers. Neat.
3:30 so this is where that accursed star beast came from... neat.
Really like how Beatrice looks in the new lighting engine
I'm not surprised they left it in, keep in mind, it was not FromSoft who worked on it, it was two other companies who did, and were probably told to just fix every texture and certain other things, and so they did. This is what happens when a major game company dose not specify on extreme specifics to two companies who specifically just polish and clean games-
That was my thought as well.
That's not even it. They updated assets, and those assets are used by multiple different models and such. You get improved textures on these because it's the texture file used on other things still in the game.
pulling shit outta my ass 101
Undead King Jar full of Eels
that's what I was thinking. I suppose he should be lightning based?
Me: aww I would have loved to fight these guys (video gets to the crawling bed of chaos) me: OH HELL NO!
Thank you for going ahead and doing this. It's cool stuff.
Beatrice was too Kawaii for Dark Souls
The coatless versions of Chester make me wonder if he was originally going to be a boss/miniboss who would have changed form partway through the fight, throwing off his hat and coat then pulling out a sword and switching to melee.
The Undead King looks like a friggen Crucible Knight from Elden Ring.
Undead King Jar-eel has some legit promise
Crawling Bed of Chaos reminds me Astel
I can only imagine, how they planned to let the Bed of Chaos crawl at you after you hit the two orbs (probably even without floor collapsing)...it would've just required a much bigger boss room
theres already theories about how the blighttown cragspiders are actually deformed hollows, and the crag hollows basically confirm it
It's a shame there's no editor for this game cos it would be amazing to see some community creations using things like this.
sanctuary guardians prototype looks like a cat high on catnip
I see that Beatrice was originally planned to be even MORE like Schierke
Kalameet looks a lot like the dragon in kings field. He has his one eye and the grey look. Only thing that’s missing are the lazers
His animation is exactly the same as the animation of big dragons in Lords of Everquest (2003)
Kalameet has 3 eyes, he has the big glowing red one in his forehead, and a smaller red normal eye on each side of his head
Kalameets prototype makes me think that the kalameet that we see today is corrupted by the abyss
he is
This reminds me of how for the most part the enemies felts so well suited in their environments and with the vibe of the game overall
Like if you have homosexual feelings for Chester.
I think, he is a doll or mechanical robot like the Doll from Bloodborne :)
Where was he supposed to be in the map
Hes like voldo from soul calibur
lol, haven't thought of that creep for a long time
sonic fire well 6 will be out soon you can see him in current gen graphics ;)
*crest fallen warrior* *Sees what's happening behind him* "Jesus Christ WTF IS HAPPENING? "
That Undead king looks cool af. Reminds me of the old pc game Revenant.
Fun fact: Jar-Eel is the prototype of the Four Kings (you can see the similarities) , and he was supposed to be the Ruler and boss of new Londo.
That was my exact thought when I saw him - "This guy was meant to be the New Londo Boss or is the expanded idea of one of the Four Kings".
That would have been way better the four kings just looks like some monsters not really special
Here's some information some of the non prototypes
Beatrice - able to be summoned; armour is found if summoned twice in the valley of drakes.
I feel like the drawling bed of chaos would have been what happened after the two chains broke and that part turns into runaway section
Would love to know if DS2 and DS3 have any unused assets.
I think 2 has. 3 definitely has tonnes.
the sanctuary guardian looks like a pinata x3
crag hollow looks perfect for a more fleshed-out, city-like izalith.
Unused enemies
"why we still here...just to suffer"
I often wondered what was Jar-Eel's role was suppose to be in the original concepts of the game. Was he suppose to be an optional boss or was going to be an important character that depends of what chose in to do in the game.
I believe he was a boss in New Londo, in the same location as Ingward, he would drop the key to draining New Londo
0:35 BloodBorne confirmed 2011
Chester had an unfathomable amount of drip, he was so fucking stylish that he had to cut him from the game to protect everyone else's pride
i didn't saw any eels or jars 0/10 disappointed
This crag hollow was used in dark souls 2 (the idea for him, at least)
Some of these are goofy af
Still really cool though
ah yes the Crawling Bed of Chaos, the Sanctuary Guardian, and last but not least, Chester
Jar-Eel hits home for me for some reason.
Im guessing that "Jar-Eel" was going to replace Nito. Glad that didn't happen because Nito is a badass
Sadly Nito's boss battle is kinda bad...
IN MY OPINION!!
Chester is Jhin confirmed
FOUR!
That undead King reminds me of Algol from Soul Calibur 4
this is true. so glad he almost certainly wont be joining us for SC6. right there with Xiba. I never thought I'd be so glad to see Kilik again.
Michael smith
I can't remember Algols mechanics/movement but I always thought he was designed.. visually unappealing.
So we will meet in SC6? :D
is there something so wrong with Xiba? I loved using him
Apparently 'King Jar-Eel' was actually the original model for the four kings.
(Which makes a lot of sense looking at the four kings and the armor of 'Jar-Eel')
I think its a shame From did not use those crag hollows 1:28 in blighttown or lost izalith , they look amazing .

Smol Beatrice.
