DEFINITELY need to make a Radiohead video. - Paranoid Android - Nude - Exit Music (For a Film) - Jigsaw Falling Into Place - 15 Step - The National Anthem So many more… but those would make for a great breakdown video.
Wow thanks man for acknowledging Colin! He is like a shining north star for my bass playing :) I loved Radiohead for a decade but i only started to realize Colin's after i started playing bass
If you really want to appreciate the bass line in "15 Step," I recommend checking out the From the Basement recording of it. The mix makes the bass a little easier to hear. Plus, you have the visuals of Colin playing.
Thanks guys for a great follow up & Shaz (& team) in the background for working their magic. I love the enthusiasm people have for certain tunes / players. There are times when I feel like the only way I'm gonna get this much into the groove is if I buy a humongous pair of pants/trousers, with an equally humongous pocket in which to fit my bass guitar !
For great Ray Brown bass lines, you need to listen to "After Hours". It was a mostly improvised record of three improvisational geniuses (one run-through each of tunes familiar to the three, then one-take recording) : Ray Brown on bass, Andre Previn on piano, and Joe Pass on guitar. It's staggering how well they fit and how well they listened to each other.

Killer video as always gang! listening to you guys talk about bass players that really influenced you...colin greenwood is a favorite of mine...and so underrated...it got me thinking about underrated bass players...i have one...i actually have the most underrated one ever...Brad Smith of Blind Melon...there is really no footage of him talking bass...which is honestly a travesty on the bass community. 1) he is one of the best pocket bassists ever 2) is not afraid to be unorthodox, and yet still serve the song 3) one of the greatest backup singers on the planet earth...boys...if you get this man in a room and let him talk bass for an hour...you can put me on a rocket and send me to the sun!
Very cool video!!! Very interesting and nice tunes, love Squib cakes and Days of wine and roses 🌹 As a jazz bass player and fusion lover, I'd like to see Alain Caron doing something like this
Hmmm....Hammond B3 came out in the late 40's, the P Bass was the 50's, the guitar player was playing a 53 Les Paul the horns were all invented and improved by the 20's .the drum kit was the 20's...SQUIB CAKES is really very very vintage...
You just gave me the need to listen once more to 'This one's for Blanton', by Duke Ellington and Ray Brown. That's also some great walking bass! ua-cam.com/video/fIulargFc84/v-deo.html

As a drummer, it’s great to learn how bass players feel about tunes that are equally important to drummers.
United in rhythm and feel.
As a bassist, it’s been v important to me to learn something from all the drummers I’ve played with so yea brother, united indeed💪🏻🤙🏻

can't forget about Weird Fishes too! Colin went off with his In Rainbows performances.
Just
"Airbag" has some unique playing too. Colin makes so many weird choices with timing and the use of space that I've never heard from another bassist.
Wow thanks man for acknowledging Colin! He is like a shining north star for my bass playing :) I loved Radiohead for a decade but i only started to realize Colin's after i started playing bass
Aa
Nude bass line has been one of the main reasons I started to learn bass and why I have a p-bass
Let’s not forget Chester Thompson’s great organ pedal work during the B3 solo of Squib Cakes.
Rocco Prestia once said he is a busy player. He said it's OK to be busy, as long as you aren't stepping on anyone else. I loved that!
If you really want to appreciate the bass line in "15 Step," I recommend checking out the From the Basement recording of it. The mix makes the bass a little easier to hear. Plus, you have the visuals of Colin playing.
I have admired his playing for years on Scary Pockets and Pomplamoose!
🧡🧡🧡
His work with jack conte across all platforms is incredibly entertaining
It’s kind of crazy how few pics there are of James Jamerson lol it feels like everyone on UA-cam uses the same one that’s in this thumbnail
Loved this! A video on Colin Greenwood would be awesome. Super underrated bassist that isn't talked about enough
Tower of Power's What is Hip is one of the first songs I point to for bass playing.
🧡🧡🧡

His work with Scary Pockets is always great. So spot on, elegant and groovy
💯💯💯
PLEASE you two make a Radiohead special! Colin Greenwood is an unsung master
I enjoyed this so much, i watched it two times in a row. Im always on the lookout for great music/musicians.
Glad you enjoyed it, Nick is well worth checking out!!
The bass line on "Darling Dear" by the Jackson Five? Good grief. It was before my time but the song was nice.
🔥🔥🔥
One of my favorite musician of the "newer" generation. Thanks for the content guys
Glad you enjoyed it!
I can never get enough Nick Campbell! You all can definitely keep bringing him back!
Agreed!

We saw Nick play with Scary Pockets and the HR Big Band here in Frankfurt. He was absolutely outstanding. A remarkable player.

Rocco was my first bass love also. Seen him play live so many times.
Bass, drums, vocals is my starting point for every mix. This was awesome!
👍👍👍
Love this chat with Nick. His pentatonic course on SBL is great, too!
Listen again to that Ray Brown. Yes, those phrases are heavily quarter notes, but there really are a fair number of grace notes.

If only I had the depth of knowledge and ability of Ian...
Time, patience and practice!!
Love all of this, fabulous. Never saw Rocco Live but saw Jaco
Always great watching Nick Campbell and Ian Allison!
My favorite Radiohead bass line is National Anthem
Rocco Prestia needs his own video
Need to do a Mike Mills REM and INXS Gary Garry Beers video
I've seen NIck twice in concert in Paris, what a great musician !
🔥🔥🔥
Yeaaaaah I love it when people bring up Tower of Power - that's the music I grew up with, Rocco was amazing!

it always comes back to Jamerson.
Please make a video about the difference between slapping on a 4 vs. 5 vs. 6 bass. Please. There are none on UA-cam
Do Radiohead and the Smile.
Please do a Radiohead vid!!
We may do at some point!
Radiohead video when?
I saw the thumbnail and thought "Jah Wobble isn't from LA?"
Paul Jackson in a similar vein with Herbie Hankock
"If you straightened out Ray Brown..." Yikes! 🔥
John Entwistle
Who the hell was the drummer in his high school jazz combo?
Is this the guy who play with Poomplamose?
Yes indeed!
