Oh my goodness it feels like yesterday that I was 16 riding around in rural north Georgia on Saturday night with this blaring out of my cutlass speakers 😢😢😢
its was more popular in my opinion. even the damn pop stars used to talk about being a rockstar. Long live the late 90s, early 2000s music! it was unique asf and just the best. miss this shit.
I'm gonna sound like a music theory geek for a minute here... This song I think is what made me realize that C-sharp minor is the "angry" key. It just triggers that unexplainable rage, and I fucking love it.
46 years old and I have finally got to hear this song properly. The phone message, the lyrics, the story… oh my. All the comments I’ve read show it’s happened to many of us.
Hell yeah, I love that! Chevelle is a unique band. I like the high harmony mixed with the very low distorted guitar. I like how escalating chronic anger is expressed.
This is the best type of music, with such emotion and such enthusiasm. Having a ton of anger and just taking it out on a drum-kit is honestly one of the best feelings in the world.
Eddie The Head Yeah I only like a few of their songs tbh. But that's because radio here played them so much yay I became sick of them. But still, I can love them again now
This song reminds me of my ex. A hot little red-headed firecracker. I always had this song in my head on my way to picking her up. "Seeing Red Again! SEEING RED AGAIN!" It was always on the radio. I could never hear it enough. It never gets old.
Yeah I had one of those too. Every morning getting the kids dressed and rushing through it would never fail to piss her off first thing in the morning and I'd spend the next hour getting screamed out driving with kids I the car. Shit she even grabbed the wheel on the highway and tried to wreck us at 80mph with kids in the back. Hardcore crazy bitch, looking back I dunno how I loved her so much. It finally ended 11 months later when she tried to gut me cause I was trying to block her from getting to my computer that she wanted to smash.
Sounds of 90's and early 2000's rock is long gone. The emo and lazy music they call rock now is a far cry from what we once had. There are only a handful of bands now trying to keep that sound alive.
I Don't think the taste is the problem. I think it's the labels, they only promote cheap crap, they no longer care about signing great artists, and great artists probably don't feel motivated to do good music too. i don't know, but that's how i feel...
These guys not only inspired me to pick up a guitar myself, but this was also the first song I learned how to play. They say freak, when you're singled out. The red, it filters through.
Good for you, never let anyone tell you different. For me it was Pantera, but the simple riffs are best b/c it's all emotion. People who don't play will relate quickly.
Met these guys before this was out. My buddy chino was with me at the myrtle beach house of blues. When we told them they sounded like tool and nirvana were in a head on collision they loved it. Great band and humble guys
@Conico Phillips I know the feeling all too well. Rock and metal are my favorite genres. But I know in the hood I cant blast that. They'll shoot at my car on sight. 😂😂😂. People are so rude too. They just stare and stare and stare.
Your country puts out some bomb ass music though. BLACKPINK is like the greatest thing since the Beatles to me. Like I’m a super fan so much so that I’m a might-get-a-Blackpink -tattoo level fan haha.
Chevelle, I have to admit, is such a unique band. All these over bands talk about heartbreak and pain. While I do really love bands like that, it gets kind of old. Their lyrics are so obvious and predictable, indifferent. Chevelle's music just never gets old. So does 10 years.
I love how the lyrics can be interpreted many ways. It definitely makes me think about some stuff that goes down in our country. This will forever be an amazing piece of art.
Words in songs can be heard in different ways just listen to yellow Ledbetter, when it sounds like it could be 5 different worlds being said, it makes me wonder about all kinds of songs, Control your own mind and pray for protection over mind every time you listen to worded music, I listen to a lot more of just instrument solos in the past couple years and my ability to think for myself is 100 fold. Love and Light 81
This song holds so much absolution for me. It did in my teenage years and still does while I’m 35 years old with a doctorate’s degree. When asked what made it show…..❤❤❤
I remember being 13er years old (30 now) and turning the radio up in the car when this came on. Mom made it about half way through the "SEEING RED AGAIN" part, then she turn off the radio and said "that's just devil music." Little did she know, this was so mellow compared to the Disfiguring The Goddess and Devourment I would consistently listen to later in life...
2021, Still seeing The Red. Lyrics They say 'Freak' when you're singled out... The Red Well, it filters through So lay down The threat is real When his sight Goes red again... Seeing red again Seeing red again This change He won't contain Slip away To clear your mind When asked What made it show (What made it show) The truth He can't send to most So lay down The threat is real When his sight Goes red again So lay down The threat is real When his sight Goes red again So lay down The threat is real When his sight Goes…
Here's the lyrics, enjoy! Chevelle - The Red They say 'Freak' When you're singled out The red Well, it filters through So lay down, the threat is real When his sight goes red again Seeing red again Seeing red again This change He won't contain Slip away To clear your mind When asked Who made it show The truth He gives in to most So lay down, the threat is real When his sight goes red again So lay down, the threat is real When his sight goes red again Seeing red again, seeing red again Seeing red again, seeing red again Seeing red again, seeing red again Seeing red again, seeing red again They say 'Freak' When you're singled out The red It filters through
I was called a freak in high school when I was 17. It was 1994. These days were the beginning of the skater/punk rock days. My school was loaded with rich, preppy assholes. I saw red way more than I should have at that age. My hair was green, purple or something ugly. I had big ass baggie jeans, nose pierced and my boyfriends skater shoes on. Groups of girls would stand by the lockers, laughing at me all day and calling me names. As they would wink and say hiiii to my boyfriend 🤢 at the same time 😡 I would leave school and drive straight into NYC. That was my safe place. Lots of cool freaks there back in the day. Now im 43 with a family and pretty damn happy. So for any kid/teenager out there that feels alone, you might be right now, but that will change. I promise. I swear it gets better. I swear you will find that one friend soon. Its a crazy, fucked up world out there but no matter who you are or what you are wearing, you will find happiness someday. You just have to want it. Escape the negativity 🤙🤟
Even though i do enjoy hardcore rock music, im not agree with this statement, since i think every band wants to try out new stuff, and stucking into one genre wont make evolve them. Linkin Park is a good example of it. Provide new material is as important as keeping quality and esence.
Sooo way back in 1998/99 I saw Chevelle live in MD at youth group retreat. My youth pastor had some good connections. He had them and The Insyderz play live. I still have those CDs. That same year he took us to see the Super Tones, The Dingees and all kinds of 90s Christian bands. Good memories those are.
I just completed treatment for my addiction of Meth.....I am 112 days sober, and the words to this song are exactly how I felt sometimes while there. One day at a time
You are so brave to put that out there where people can harshly judge you and hurt you I too am an addict not of crystal meth opiates was my thing I have 12 years clean but I go to the methadone clinic and I can relate to everything you're going through it is not easy and sometimes it's not one day at a time with me it's like one second at a time sometime music is a great outlet at least for me but I kind of just somehow flew through the whole music thing and I would definitely love some suggestions from you about who to listen to and what and how to get new music that's good and it means something like it used to
But the right treatment is hard to find but it sounds like you're you're killing it and don't ever be afraid or embarrassed or scared to reach out for help that's what it's there for play some good treatment out there but unfortunately you got a weed through the bad ones to find a good one
The thing that struck me about all of this... You can't have ANY counselling session lead by someone who very obviously has never struggled from anything resembling the subject of the session. It's the blind leading the deaf.
***** ACTUALLY my step dad has been in AA for many years now and has been sober for 2 years now. If he had never gone to AA he would still be the man he used to be.
Actually, I think that counselling someone doesn't require experience with the related subject or anything related to it. It simply requires knowledge, compassion, and patience. But also to say they have never struggled from anything resembling the subject strikes me as odd, because you can relate almost anything to anything.
I could almost agree except the best counselors always have shadows that they've come through. That's why they know - You can be a guide for someone, but you can't take the steps for them, nor can you force them to take the steps.
Chevelle is one of my favorite bands, been listening to them for years, I seen them live for the first time 2 years ago with Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin in Bonner Springs Kansas and let me tell ya they did not disappoint, they are amazing live.
My dad actually grew up with the band before they were chevelle, they skated my dads backyard half pipe and he tells me stories about these guys and they seem so cool.

That's good info! Thanks- I like songs in minor keys, but I didn't realize different keys could elicit different feels-
Linkin Park's papercut starts with a C sharp riff, Black -Death metal band Behemoth at one point tuned their guitars on C sharp as well
This has been used long before this song came out.
I agree good info lol
He didn't say it hasn't been around. He said this song made him realize it...
46 years old and I have finally got to hear this song properly. The phone message, the lyrics, the story… oh my. All the comments I’ve read show it’s happened to many of us.
One of those song that feels best when you’re listening to full blast all alone.
Yessss!!!
It's 2022, still a banger, always will be.
Thinking the same thing

a must listen :) !!!

I remember when this song came out my Junior year of highschool.
I’m listening to this timeless beauty and I’m a 66 year old Marine.
Time flies doesn’t it ?
Thank you greatly for your service Sir, keep rockin!

Semper Fi, thank you for your service and love of great music 🤘😎🤘
Hell yes,I’m gonna be 70 y/o and still listening!
Hell yeah, I love that! Chevelle is a unique band. I like the high harmony mixed with the very low distorted guitar. I like how escalating chronic anger is expressed.
Rock on! Hell yeah ❤
64 here
30 and still here
65 here and still a metal head....awesome bunch right here, yes !!!
This is the best type of music, with such emotion and such enthusiasm. Having a ton of anger and just taking it out on a drum-kit is honestly one of the best feelings in the world.
Shame this type of music doesnt have solos though or it would be twice as good
Callum Archer
Wonder if that’s why Sam Loeffler is a drummer...?
I love this song so much. Its just so well put together. I wonder why rock music went away from loud guitars and programming to just mostly pop vibes
Well said and I agree!

Again this is a great representation of the late 90's/early 2000's songs to just rock out too. A great era of music with attitude
I always find myself coming back to Chevelle and Tool.
Chiko was here he'll yeah
Chiko was here i was listening to tool just before this song lol
Eddie The Head Yeah I only like a few of their songs tbh. But that's because radio here played them so much yay I became sick of them. But still, I can love them again now
you hear the influence brother!!!
because they feel the pain
+James P i feel u bro ✊
If your listening to Chevwlle in 2024 you're probably old enough to remember when MTV played music videos 🔥
I remember when MTV first came on
I am old enough to remember turning down the offer at work. 25.00 per share for MTV stock
Good times
🤘
I love this song i come back to it
Used to turn this track up at the production factory I worked at when shit went downhill to clear my mind....
So underrated. Such a great band. If only people had the same taste in music like we all did many many years ago. 💯💯
This song gives me chills. Who can really relate to this legendary song???? Therapy at its finest
Suicide squad
Met these guys before this was out. My buddy chino was with me at the myrtle beach house of blues. When we told them they sounded like tool and nirvana were in a head on collision they loved it. Great band and humble guys
Good analogy. And cool story. They seem like good guys.
This masterpiece is 20 years old. Such a rocking song 🤘🏻
I really don't think race matters with this comment but this is one of my favorite songs ever and I'm a tall black tatted up dread head! Lol
These guys are great check out hyro the hero if you get a chance...a song called live your fuckin life
Yaaasss come thru King!!!!
@@FlowerKitty1 lol
Race really doesn't. I'm a 5 feet black girl and I listen to this and more alt. rock and metal. Rock on 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
@Conico Phillips I know the feeling all too well. Rock and metal are my favorite genres. But I know in the hood I cant blast that. They'll shoot at my car on sight. 😂😂😂.
People are so rude too. They just stare and stare and stare.
It's 2023 and I still listen to this song the most on my playlist. Definitely an underrated band. Always support them from South Korea
This is so good but you must hear “The Wave” or “Whispering Wolf” by SLT 🤘🐺
Mom of a 14 year old and she loves this music, I showed her good music
@@fairy4176 yo lemme hit up yo daughter (im her age and jk)
Couldn't agree more!🎶🎶
Your country puts out some bomb ass music though. BLACKPINK is like the greatest thing since the Beatles to me. Like I’m a super fan so much so that I’m a might-get-a-Blackpink -tattoo level fan haha.
I played this song over and over in high school 😊
Chevelle, I have to admit, is such a unique band. All these over bands talk about heartbreak and pain. While I do really love bands like that, it gets kind of old. Their lyrics are so obvious and predictable, indifferent. Chevelle's music just never gets old. So does 10 years.
Try punk, not much about relationships instead more about life.
Fizzypopization I'll be sure to do that in the future
Fizzypopization After the 5000th song about how to stick it to the man, you tend to get tired of that as well.
I love how the lyrics can be interpreted many ways. It definitely makes me think about some stuff that goes down in our country. This will forever be an amazing piece of art.
There's not that many ways. It's literally about anger issues.
Chevelle is the best but you must hear “The Wave” or “Whispering Wolf” by SLT 🤘🐺 🎧
@@NoName_NoTitle one thing remains, we must unite against hate and evil. ❤

This song holds so much absolution for me. It did in my teenage years and still does while I’m 35 years old with a doctorate’s degree. When asked what made it show…..❤❤❤
I'm 59 an this song is in a world of it own 👍
I’m a whole 15 years late, I discovered this song last week. I’ve been missing out.
Better late than never. Welcome friend & enjoy the beauty that is Chevelle🤘🙂

Lyrics
They say 'Freak' when you're singled out...
The Red
Well, it filters through
So lay down
The threat is real
When his sight
Goes red again...
Seeing red again
Seeing red again
This change
He won't contain
Slip away
To clear your mind
When asked
What made it show
(What made it show)
The truth
He can't send to most
So lay down
The threat is real
When his sight
Goes red again
So lay down
The threat is real
When his sight
Goes red again
So lay down
The threat is real
When his sight
Goes…

I really wish I could go to a concert
DAMN!!! THIS SONG IS PURE ANGER!!!

U gotta hear this track !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chevelle is a band that has stayed true to their sound
far from it.
Even though i do enjoy hardcore rock music, im not agree with this statement, since i think every band wants to try out new stuff, and stucking into one genre wont make evolve them. Linkin Park is a good example of it. Provide new material is as important as keeping quality and esence.
Diego Alonso Acosta Merel no, a lot of people hated linkin park bc of there new style music
Randy Hall m Marilyn Manson

Chevelle one band that is way underrated.
Only the best of us know and love them.
Under-rated?... what??? 🤣
they got 1st place on US top chart.I wouldn't say they are underrated.
Foreallllll
@@reaper3.097 Yea but no one ever really talks about them anymore lol not even in reference to their prime time
Sooo way back in 1998/99 I saw Chevelle live in MD at youth group retreat. My youth pastor had some good connections. He had them and The Insyderz play live. I still have those CDs. That same year he took us to see the Super Tones, The Dingees and all kinds of 90s Christian bands. Good memories those are.

You can do it ❤❤❤ No matter how many times it takes!
Keep going my friend. I don’t know you, but I’m so proud of you!!
One of the best songs in the entire Alternative metal genre.
It is considered Nü Metal right now. But also Alternative. And yes it is one of the best bands

This is so good but you must hear “The Wave” or “Whispering Wolf” by SLT 🐺🎶🤘
The thing that struck me about all of this... You can't have ANY counselling session lead by someone who very obviously has never struggled from anything resembling the subject of the session. It's the blind leading the deaf.
***** ACTUALLY my step dad has been in AA for many years now and has been sober for 2 years now. If he had never gone to AA he would still be the man he used to be.

if the blind lead the deaf the world would see a true act of comradery.
When your son says "Put it loud" while on a raid trip .. Im doing something right. 🖤
