This man is a legend in his own right. I remember when the Michael Jackson experience came to Dallas and I saw him playing smooth criminal and etc, I was in total shock cause I did not know he was going to be there. Such a unique and cool drummer
+Trevor Hawkins Right? Have you seen the first John Blackwell DVD? If you don't know JB, he's now a prof at Berklee, but did several years with Prince and Justin Timberlake, and is an absolute killer. The DVD's full of great stuff, and he talks a lot about how Sugar Foot was a major influence with his showmanship, specifically those cymbal chokes and the cymbals behind him. It's actually probably on youtube now. Keep hittin' em. Peace.
Oh we talkin a real legend here. Me and Sugarfoot are roughly the same age. I'm Sixty and also a longtime Drummer. I met Jonathan in the summer of 1985. It was his first-time touring gig with Larry Blackmon and CAMEO. Talkin bout a funkyass drummer. Back then, he was the first drummer I'd ever seen play the SynDrums - those were the rubberized electronic drums that were then seen as the wave of the future. We all know better now. He then went on to play with Madonna and of course Mike Jackson. Well, two years ago I caught the CAMEO gig once again in Pittsburgh, Pa. And, guess who was back in the drum chair - that's right Moffett is back with CAMEO after a two decade break and OMG, is he ever as funky as ever. Larry Blackmon is the group's original drummer, so, his drummer has to be the best, and Sugarfoot remains the CAT in CAMEOSIS. true story from the funk vibes of TCB SO MELLO!!!
I had a chance to hang with Jonathan before his show when he was touring with Kenny G. He's such a beautiful and humble human being, not to mention a fantastic player. Glad he's on your roster as an endorsee... Cheers.
He does not have any endorsements now; Sad that He is Not relevant anymore to drum/cymbal companies, they now have their eyes on the shedders or the 1,000,001 you tube drummers teaching ...
Just no cymbal endorsements, his web site still shows him with a bunch of companies, including DW Drums. With as many huge acts as he's performed with, as soon as he goes on the road, he'll have a cymbal endorsement too. But I get what you're saying, a guy like him gets dropped while Joe Blow who never toured out of his home state gets picked up because a bunch of kids watch him on You Tube. That's our biz now days, kind of sad
@@mrski4945 It is sad, i actually hate the kind of “drumming” that is relevant today, might as well give them gatorade/wheaties endorsements; that is not music, that does not talk to me other than “wow, another fast guy/gal”🙄
Thank you so much for that thorough explanation. Hearing someone I’ve listened to my whole life explain it the way I feel as well makes me feel like I’m not just crazy. It also assured me with soultone I’m in good hands. Awesome video. Great info
Me preocupa el hecho de que este baterista sea tan infravalorado. Sin duda es uno de los mejores bateristas de la historia y seguramente el mejor baterista de pop.
Roy Cisneros I looked at your picture so I could see your monstrous "better than everyone else's" kit.....impressive! The tambourine is cute. You have a good look though, the pompadour hairstyle, the glasses, and the red checkered shirt...wait, the phone is ringing...hold on......hey, it's 1964, and they want their look back. Aren't The Beach Boys due to go out on a reunion tour soon? Judging by the way you look, the only serious banging you do is in your boyfriend's fart box. Wanna be a a jerk? I can be an even bigger one.
Albert Armendariz Then don't listen to them, your opinion is your opinion, and frankly, you're the only one on earth who really gives a fat rat's ass about your opinion. I use 2002's and I love them, and your money didn't pay for them, mine did, so what you say doesn't mean fuck to me. Go troll to the small and exclusive group of people who care what you have to say.....because I sure as hell don't. Have a pleasant evening.
Guys he is a piece of drums history...he is a legend! 🤘
Agreed - legendary drummer and inspiration!
He should be in a museum 😁
History hopefully, legend, no way. Plenty of stuff around him, but can he use them all? Just asking.
Hannu Koistinen I’m 2 years late, and yes, he did use them all.
His single pedal work is amazing! He's super fast and precise.
This is the guy that made me what to play drums. His style is so cool!
He is also Michael Jackson’s drummer

I love it when Jonathan does karate chops on his drums! This man influences every drummers on every levels!

Samurai, Ahh Soooo!

Well yeah, it’s chops that get you noticed now

Thank you so much for that thorough explanation. Hearing someone I’ve listened to my whole life explain it the way I feel as well makes me feel like I’m not just crazy. It also assured me with soultone I’m in good hands. Awesome video. Great info

Me preocupa el hecho de que este baterista sea tan infravalorado. Sin duda es uno de los mejores bateristas de la historia y seguramente el mejor baterista de pop.
He Best Universe!😍😍😍🙌🏾
👏👏👏
Those cymbals are nice, but to me they don't sound much different than Zildjian A Customs. My #1 cymbals will always be Paiste.
Dude not even. A custom is way more bright then these, learn your sounds. Oh wait you use paiste haha!
Roy Cisneros I looked at your picture so I could see your monstrous "better than everyone else's" kit.....impressive! The tambourine is cute. +Randy Woolum A Customs are just a tad brighter.

i'm not too sure, but I heard he's not an endorsor anymore?
K P Yeah, he kept using Zildjian and Istanbul cymbals, and now he’s using a different brand.
like all the pro players out there, its all about the size of the check not the product, ask vinnie..
