    Oil leaks from the rear of the engine are usually caused by old expansion plugs. This video describes and walks you through the replacement process. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask me for help if you have any questions.
    A000 998 55 90- 2 small expansion plugs
    A000 998 56 90- 1 large expansion plug (engines without vacuum pump)
    No sealer should be used in the installation of the new plugs.

    My ML400 with a V-6 turbo(or bi-turbo, forgotten which) engine drowned from non-draining sun roof drains which, during a big rain storm, let somewhere between 13 to 16 gallons of water get through or over the roof seals and into the cabin and down under the carpets, which ruined the electronics under there. The SUV was quickly declared a total loss by my insurer carrier. Only had 88,000 miles on it, after buying it new, and didn't have it long enough to wear out the oil seals you replaced. Great engine in that vehicle, wood trim, heated & cooled cup holders, etc. Would have kept it forever. However, you have to check the roof drains yourself, or make a special inspection request of your mechanic or dealer - roof drains are not on the list of routine factory-recommended service items.

      Sometimes it can just be as simple as carefully spraying bleach or mold remover into those four drains. I do it twice a year in rainy So. Florida.

    I have 2010 glk350 and it will smell like burning oil and sometime you can see good amount of smoke coming from front of the hood then goes away. It started smell once i had the oil change. Do you think it's the expansion cap or oil filter not seated and closed properly? Thanks so much

      It could be a number of areas. Check the oil filler cap, expansion caps, various sensors. Follow the oil.

      Benz leak all around: oil cooler, breather separator seem to be the most common places. Economy size seals really help.

      @iRepairAutos  5 років тому +1

      Ok. The oil separator on the inside is probably letting oil by which is ending up inside the hose. This can end up damaging your MAF air sensor and your air intake manifold. I would change that part asap. I'll try to get a video made on removing the hose.

      You can put silicone lubricant on the rubber o-rings. I wouldn't put gasket maker of any kind on those parts - the next time around it will leave some residue that can actually cause leaks.

      How old are the plugs? These plugs have to be tight. Once you remove them or they pop out. You should change them for new ones. They have a rubber o-ring on them. Make sure the old o-ring is not stuck inside the port on the engine. Or the new one won't seat properly. Let me know what you find. But definitely get new ones.
