I appreciate this video. I have a 09 MB E350 that was burning oil somewhere on the exhaust pipe. Once I learned where the PCV valve was from this video, I found the leak. I decided to change it myself. The operation was a success! Videos like this help owners like myself diagnose and repair problems. So thank you again for your tutorial help!
Thanks so much, I was smelling the oil, and since I am in the process of selling the car, I wanted to make sure the new owner was not left holding the bag! I did all of this in 10 min, and I made sure that all of the tools were in order. Step by step, thanks so much! BTW, I was quoted $1200 to do this job! including parts! 😆
Great Information! Thanks for your help....I can save $230 from a local repair shop...No one show me how to replace expansion plug. You show me step by step. So, easy and detailed info. Thanks Again.*****
thats great that you mentioned to make sure the airflow in the back was snug and to fasten that clip. sometimes people forget that and it can cause problems. it's the little things... great concise and informative video! thank you!
The reason this mechanic changed these parts is because there were signs of oil in the throttle body. Your car may run perfectly fine and you may not even know your PVC valve is bad. So check your throttle body. If there are signs of oil. It means your PVC valve is not operating correctly. I approve this message 😌
It s VERY!!! important to have the right tools or you are waiting time. YOU must buy a SHORT ratchet or forget it . SO buy the correct ratchet or a 30 T torx wrench .
Very informative video, thank you very much. I have an 08 350 4matic ad my current problem is with a burnt oil odor coming in through air vents when the fun is on. I am assuming its the PCV Valve gaskets that's causing maybe a seepage onto the exhaust or wherever it is hot and would the air follow to have burnt oil smells. Would you says replacing the PCV valve and gaskets would resolve the issue ?
Hey man, thanks for the video. I replaced them once and then one little cam plug started to leak again, just bought another set and tried replacing it but the engines wasn’t really cold and it pushed the plug out a little. Should i try replacing it tomorrow morning on a cold engine? Thanks
Nice video brother. I'll like to know if changing the pcv valve also works for mass airflow sensor housing (thats how best i can describe it) i found oil in the housing and the hose that connects the pcv valve.
Head up for replacement the bolts for mine were 8mm E-Torx fastener. E-Torx is basically a inverted Torx. Where as Torx the fastener is the female end with E-Torx the socket is the female side and the bolt head is the male. If you have a socket or wrench set that works with multiple head bolts, 6 point, 12 point, spline, square etc.....a 8 mm would work. A low profile 1/4 inch drive should work for the two inner bolts...(the side with the breather hose). For the outer bolts probably a wrench, ratchet wrench, or a pass through socket will be easier. On e you get a few turns to break the initial torque it will probably be easier by hand at leas the top. The bottom outer bolt is against the curve of the firewall so good luck and be careful. If the wrench does fall through pray that it falls cleanly down to the ground instead of embedding itself somewhere in the Abyss of the engine bay. The new PCV Valve I purchased cake with T-30 Torx head fasteners. The outboard will be the same boat use a 90” Torx and thread as much as you can by hand. Finish the tightening with the 90 Torx and be careful not too cross or over thread.
Hello can you please tell me how to change the cam plugs for 2015 Mercedes GL550 it’s a v8 engine 4.6 liter. The v6 cam plugs are really easy but the GL550 is kind of hard to do. Can you please do a video ?
Hey there . Great video very educational , i think i need to do the same replacements on my car . Anyway i have a 05 E500 will the same parts and process work for my car since its a v8 or that doesnt change anything ? Thanks and i would appreciate ur thoughts on it
4:02 - 4:04 how to remove the black hose line that’s going straight into the cabin area ? I took off the clip but can’t force or move it out of place once removed . I need the space so I can reach the third bolt to remove the vacuum pump for repair !
Can this PCV valve be the cause of a persistent lean condition fault code, when fuel pump, fuel injectors, and spark plugs are ok, and no air leaks in the intake runner?
Hello man, thanx for the exelent tip and video , i got e350, and got bad smell from exhaust and my car is eating oil , do you think its pcv valve problem ?
Hello Brian, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2018 in advance. I am some issues with the Secondary Air Injection Pump of my 2006 Mercedes Benz E350. I have had to replace the pump twice in less than 2 months. The pumps come with a warranty so the shop did not charge for the second replacement though I had to replace the valves. Usually the pump doesn't stop after you start the vehicle for over 40 mins and in a few days, the check engine light will come on. Do you have any advice? Thanks a lot.
ricky ovalle On some models instead of having to plug it will have a vacuum pump bolted up in that position. That pumps oh ring is a common oil leak as well.
Currently doing pcv on a 13 glk 350. What a nightmare. Intake has to come off, sorcery brackets covering high pressure fuel pump, high pressure pump and high pressure housing has to come off.
Maybe you have the same version of the M272 as me. It was impossible for me to change the PCV myself. IMPOSSIBLE. My mechanic had to lift the car up and remove the tube where the oil dipstick goes to get access. So indeed a nightmare. Very bad designed on my particular M272
This video, while helpful, doesn't actually replace the PCV valve. You only replaced the cover. What you were calling the "cam" actually has the PCV valve on it and that is treated on with reverse threads..... FYI

H Aureus thank you. Your right it is the little thing that are easy to overlook. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the video really helpful now I know what it’s called Pcv valve now I can replace it
Another great tutorial and this would also work on the R350 W251 as well. same engines
A simple fix, aren't they always the best ....... Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
The only thing simple on this car. lol thank you for watching!

My PVC is leaking onto the exhaust and smoking.

Great video. Thanks for listing the part numbers.
Great video...thanks for sharing. Did the old PCV throw a CEL?

Hey Mr New1234, I am experiencing the same problem with my 08 ML 350 4matic. Did u figure out what the problem was?
Thanx Buddy. Extremely helpful & informative video !!
Colin Aglae glad the video was of help.
Have you done a video showing how to replace the crankcase breather oil separator by any chance???

-- I would Replace the PCV breather as well. If it’s not working it will create pressure and pop the cam plugs out.
Helped me save $300 bucks
Very good video...do not change this format!
Thank you. Very good video.
Did u replace the bolts on the pvc ? there a new bolt kit for them and yes i work for Mercedes just in case anyone ask
Daryl am nuts I did not I was unaware of a new bolt kit for it. Good to know 👍
@@HowtoAutomotive LOL they simply use E-Torx instead of torx on 2010+
Many Mercedes bolts stretch and can be an issue

Did u ever figure this out? Have the same issue

Great video. What prompted you to replace them?
Walid Bast it was leaking oil down the back of the cylinder head. Thank you for watching!
could you show how to replace the vvt oil control valve on same car - where is it?
Hi dear , thanks alot for this video
I have w211 any my throttle body full of oil , whats the solution, i think e240 doesn't have pcv valve ?
Thank you, super easy to follow

The oil separator in the head wears a groove in it and should also be replaced.
Thank you for this video it is very useful 👍🏼

Mefat Amzai it’s the same process on the E500. As far as the parts I’m not 100% sure.
good job man
khaled ganimi thank you!
Would the PCV have the car making a squeaking noise?
Is the placement the same on 2010 E350. Oil is leaking onto my exhaust

Gilson Rogerio Lima Oliveira yes I have seen them cause lean conditions. Doesn’t hundred percent mean this is the cause of yours but it can be
Excellent tutorial. Thank you
Thank you for watching!
Hello man, thanx for the exelent tip and video , i got e350, and got bad smell from exhaust and my car is eating oil , do you think its pcv valve problem ?
Very good chance it is. Plus the cam plugs leak oil onto the exhaust making it smell as well
@@HowtoAutomotive Thanx for the response, I'll start with changing valve 😀
Are the smaller plugs of 30 mm diameter?
And the big one is 60 mm ?
Very useful have to do this to my 15 glk350

I need this IM replaced on my 2011 ML350. Do you know of any top MB mechanics in the NY/NJ area?
I don’t sorry
What is the reason of white smoke when it's cold?
Do all v6c300 models have that big plug on the drivers side? I'm changing mines out since they are starting to leak oil but I don't see the big one.
ricky ovalle On some models instead of having to plug it will have a vacuum pump bolted up in that position. That pumps oh ring is a common oil leak as well.
Is there 2 or 3 cam plugs on a 2007 c280? I can see the 2 small ones on either side, but I can't seem to find the larger one. Thanks
Walid Bast if this model has a vacuum pump and you only have two camp plugs

I did everything like in the video but when i turn the car back on one of the cam plugs shoot out and makes a oil mess any advice??
Hi. I am having the same issue now. Were you able to resolve this ?
@@asadnet Hi yes i was able to fix the problem i had to replace the intake camshaft and the oil control valve
Hi..How many miles does the engine run..? Thx
I have seen them with 350K
Hopefully this works for me
Didn't you post this video before?
MrRangerZr1 I have an old version of it where the camera work is not up to par.
This is breather, not PCV .
PCV is in the other bank . Over the valve cover.
Thank you. This was helpful.
Thank you Very much
What year is it?!!

Don’t put Vaseline on rubber, use rubber grease
I’m having issues with the driver cam
Plug popping off when the engine is started. Anyone ever have that problem??
I am have same issue l. Were you able to fix yours
It is not as easy as it looks. Trying to get the back bolts is very difficult. No enough room to engage the T30 socket.
Mercedes and their plastic stuff
Nitram L it's only getting worse
Seemed really easy to access, though.
Nitram L Beats replacing that plastic over all of the serious design flaws of a BMW.
Don't buy the Dorman brand, they push themselves out and never fit properly. Only get the OEM ones. I learned the hard way.
Was just about to buy Dorman, but I think I'll pay the extra 3 bucks for OE. Thanks.
