Totally Agree!!! It is better to have a horse accept things rather than have a de-sensitized (dull) horse. The best horse is a thinking, searching, accepting horse.

Tim walked up beside me one day as I was leading my arabian stallion between the mare pastures and asked if I was okay walking him. Meanwhile my horse was walking politely beside me although he was all arched up hoping the mares would admire him he was soft and easy on the lead paying attention to my slightest cue. When I said "Of course I am" Tim just shook his head and said "I like my horses a lot tamer" and walked into the barn where his mare promptly kicked him and broke his leg. My stallion has never once kicked me in the six years I've had him. He's a kind horse and a willing partner. Tim's horses are broke and desensitized.

No breaking horses for me. I 'start' horses. I develop a bond through mutual trust and respect. And maybe if I'm fortunate, the horse and I will merge to one mind.

how do you deal with a horse that once you have parked they get impatient and start pawing and neighing? when trailering 2 horses to a horse show what to do when one has to stay tied to the trailer but starts pawing and neighing and sometimes pulling back?

Practice at home....separate them .....tie them up and make them stand.....they have to decide for them selves that it is easier to stand still....they must learn patience

agreed 100%. I have a question so your not supposed to desensitize a horse with stuff going around his legs and get used to stuff .

Jean Clayton That part makes no sense, you want your horse comfortable around scary objects. By letting him know its not gonna hurt them. My horses are goofy, but they know when I'm not playing. They have spirit, but i am hard on them. Just like horses do.

In dog training, "break" means eliminating undesirable behaviors or bad habits. A horse that is gun broke, keeps calm and cool under nearby gunfire.

Why do you keep pushing your horse away then?
