NEW employee! Will he even last the day?

- Join the concrete crew as we begin work on another big project. Today we worked on a new construction driveway, front walk, city approach, and curb and gutter. We had a new employee start today and it seems like he is going to work out just fine. Unfortunately one of the employees hurt his back on the job and I'm hoping it is nothing serious. Overall we made some good progress on this project and even got some concrete poured. Hopefully we will have some success with the inspector tomorrow morning so we don't get delayed. Enjoy

Does it not occur to you that the new RAY might feel self conscious about his height.
You should feel out the lie of the land before saying anything derogatory to new employees.

Wow, victory style again. Why don't you just make your guys do a 5 minute pre-trip? Check the air, check the oil. Check the brakes like you're a safety first man like and you're ruining your equipment, not maintaining it.

As entertaining as Eric is.. He really just a liability and requires 2X more supervision then needed. Your guys should be doing a morning pre trip on their trucks befor you guys leave the yard. Save you money and destruction. Every morning check tires, oil, coolant, and lights.

Never seen the crew do prevent maintenance on any vehicle during the season. Ryan only does it during the winter.

I was bitten by a brown recluse on the job and almost lost my life and spent 10 days in ICU and five days on intervenious antibiotics with 3 mini strokes, staff infection, and amnesia. A week before the bite, I was commended by my district manager and was told that I was the best tech that they had ever had. Two months after the bite and almost losing my life the employer laid me off and told me that they could not hold my job for two months. They also tried to get out of the $50,000 in hospital bills and I had to fight them to get them paid! The life of a working man!

I think Ryan needs to start deducting money from the guys paychecks if certain things start breaking down on his vehicles that could have been addressed if they all started doing what any employee who is operating any piece of work equipment would do and that is fill out a pre trip inspection sheet before use.
Might stop stuff like the flat tire on the form truck going right down to the rims on eric.
And Big Ray almost blowing up the engine on the one dump truck.

If you're looking for new lights that are worth the money you will use everyday in the dark I HIGHLY suggest the tower rocket light from milwaulkee, can be run off battery or extension cord and an 8.0 battery in the light on high lasts me probably 5 hours; plug the light in with a cord and battery still in it, charges the battery for you as well.

Stretching is key in construction, i worked for a masonry company in the union. Every morning before we started every trade had to stretch and it really helped on jobsite injuries like this. I kinda thought it was silly at first but it definitely helps.

11:27 but you also have to think, they’re just the inspectors, they can’t pass something that they think will fail. they’re trained to do things to specs, and have to go by it..they can let you do something because it’s easier, because if the higher ups don’t approve, you won’t get a call, it’ll be the inspector that passed it. so to save everyone hassle, they have to approve it only if absolutely correct. of course they can let things slide but nothing major. the inspectors are just the middle men who point the finger, but have no control

Hey Ryan, as a Civil Engineer myself, I'd recommend using various different SUDs techniques in the designs for your new land. Instead of draining surface rainwater into the sewer system.

Sewer is water and poo leaving a home, water ( rain snow ) is called storm water. Completely different outcomes.
@timbruns3818 Yeah, I forget it's a bit different for Americans. In the Scotland, we have sewer and rainwater in the same pipe on older systems. Newer builds they are separate, and newer still are SUDs systems to deal with rainwater on site.
I am referring to stormwater. I never mentioned sewer. You don't need to distinguish between the two.
I got a feeling Tino is on drugs. Would explain some of the behaviour. He is always "getting injured" and cant show up to work or just not showing up at all out of nowhere and those issues with him before where he jsut didnt show up for weeks. I hope im wrong
You never know what someone is going through. Stressful situations are handled differently by everyone. I'm not saying it couldn't be a possibility, however I have a feeling it's more personal life stress the ole Murphys Law going on.. That alone can put someone in their head and be a distraction.. I'm rooting for him to get through the challenges so that he can shine Brighter.. Also just imagine how mentally overwhelming it might be having your presence in today's UA-cam world where everyone has something to say.. JMO, but I think Tino may be dealing with mental health issues, (anxiety/depression?) and perhaps self medicates with alcohol/substances. Hope things turn around for him, wishing him the best.
A pre-trip inspection would eliminate a lot of the truck issues you’re experiencing, one of these days it’s going to cost you a big dollar especially if something to do with the Mack, it only takes a few minutes to check the oil and water, then kick the tires, and check the lights. When you get set up on your land, get a good compressor, and some fuel tanks, and a porta-john, save a lot of nonsense .
Agreed, and, for the love of God, carry a small inventory of the things you know you will need. Home Depot everyday, several times some days is ridiculous. It gives the impression of disorganization.
It’s gonna take something happening and costing him a lot of money to start pre tripping trucks in the morning even when the tandem had a bad oil leak they still weren’t checking it on a daily basis junior had to put like 5 litres in it to get it back to the maximum mark one day
I’ve removed a few thousand feet of silt fence and always wondered how they get so mangled. Now I know. Lol.
I figured it out why Bugs quit, Ryan was offering retirement and Bugs was close to Retirement and Ryan didn't want pay Bugs... So Ryan pushed him out so he didn't have pay him retirement it's to soon Ryan figured it out after buying new land and all Ryan doesn't have money pay Bug's, Ryan knows it's going take him 5 years build back up his funds pay retirement so Ryan pushed Bug's out.
Also because last season Ryan had to pay bugs work man's compensation for his shoulder injury and Ryan didn't like it

Little late this season, but next year you need to have the guys pre-trip and post- trip the trucks. It’s not only the law but a great habit to get into. Checking tires in the morning and evening will eliminate a lot of stress during the work day.

I hate to say it, but Eric is getting a little Lazy in the recent videos. Not looking hard enough for his work boots, neglecting the work vehicles, having little mood swings. I mean I get it, it could be a number of things. Extra work after hours, family etc. But these small details affect the whole mood of the crew and ultimately turns what could have been a good day into a not so good day 😂.
