Much appreciated. You must live and drive in a hermetically sealed universe, I can’t believe how clean your car’s nether regions are! I live where the roads are wet and salty all winter, and many are still unpaved. What a difference!
Where I am, road dust & yellow pollen gets everywhere, including engine bay, but luckily a vacuum cleaner and old toothbrush + a good wipe down a few times a year gets most of it out of the nooks & crannies. Thank you for the comment.
A really great video. I was confused before this. I have a little point. The top up motor coolant in the back on the Rex side is connected to the front cabin heater circuit and uses the standard glycol antifreeze in it. As you say the battery coolant is obviously separate and has a different coolant in it.
Water is heavier than brake fluid, so I'd say this brake fluid test is to avoid a flush is flawed. Also, I'd mention for those who've never worked on cars, don't open the coolant circuits if you've driven the car in the past hour, the pressure can spray scalding hot coolant everywhere when you remove the cap.
if your bmw i3 is a few years old remove the windscreen washer pump then pull out the rubber seal the pump goes through this incorperates the filter so pull it out flush the bottle and clean the filter replace and put the pump back in then refill with the correct fluid.....
@@Robbie-mw5uu windscreen washer fluid from any supermarket which has anti freeze in it dont just use water , if it freezes in the winter it can damage the pump. dont use dish wash soap you will end up with a scummy bottle...
i'm surprised there was no mention of checking the carbon fiber roof for damage on that spreadsheet it should be waxed or have ceramic coating to prevent the dissipation of the protective epoxy and the clearcoat
In the front of the i3 all electric there is two coolants containers and then the break fluid. Do you know what kind or brand is needed in those coolants?
The one closest to the brake fluid is the cabin heater fluid. The one closer to the bumper is the engine bay/Electronics coolan loop. The referenced spreadsheet has the BMW part numbers for each. I would stick with the mfg coolants specified for each if possible. Good luck!
Hi : ) Very much appreciated. I just successfully changed my 12v and appreciated your help there as well. Would you be willing to post a copy in google docs or something similar?
I just added a link to the google sheet containing my personal maintenance information for a 2015, in the video description section. Please ALWAYS VERIFY the part numbers included are correct before using, in case there is a typo or other mistake. I hope this helps.
There is no battery coolant container. "The electric machine" coolant container (not the heater recirculation coolant container!) uses BMW G48 coolant, orBMW 82192 211 913. Please verify for your specific year model and configuration / owners manual before adding any coolant to the systems. Thanks.
The error code was not erased. I had a fuel pump relay problem on mine which was fixed. But the error code also remains. Any simple way to delete it? Bimmer code?
You could try Bimmerlink to reset the error codes ( just be aware that there are some codes that Bimmerlink software does not reset). If you haven't used it before, make sure you have an OBD connector (bluetooth) for connecting your phone to the car. I use a Veepeak adapter, and have had good luck with it. Good luck!
The vehicle uses elecrical power assist steering, so the answer is no with regards to hydrulic steering fluid. However, there are universal joints in the steering to where it enters the rack & pinion unit that is lubricated, and can be checked easily if the frunk box is removed.
Thanks for the advice, but I did go to BMW and they wanted ~$1500US to replace them. Even the service advisor (verbally) suggested it wasn't worth it. That's why I ended up with the DIY solution video. Thanks for the feedback!
I am only aware of two problem areas that may benefit from attention: front wheel bearings and possibly the top front strut top bearings that some owners have commented on. If any other owners have suggestions, please comment below. Thanks for the question!
I've seen another youtuber claim that the struts should be reseated every few years but not sure how valid that is. Suspension is such a pain because of the spring...
This is the type of guy that you want to buy a used car from. Well done.
Thank you for the complement!
Thank you for this video. Being a new owner and being out of warranty, this really helps!
Great to hear!

Thank you for an excellent overview and for making the spreadsheet available. Very helpful.
You're very welcome!
Awesome Overview. Thank you for taking the time and effort. This is very comprehensive.
Well done again. Worth is weight in gold.
Video was a bit long, but I wanted to cover as much of the basics as possible. Thanks for the feedback.

another good reason to wear safety glasses. keeps dust and debris out of your eyes as well when you’re checking the undercarriage

what do you mean by correct fluid?

How do you replace the rear side light? Mine is out. Do I need to remove the bumper? Do you know which bulb I will need?
This is awesome! Thank you so much!!!
Glad you like it!
Thanks for the video and the sheet!
No problem!
Wow found your video....thank you so much for such great info to maintain it..... a new proud owner of a 2015 i3 rex...
It is one of my favorite cars. Enjoy!

You are right, It should be added. It wasn't thought to be a big concern until recently. Thanks for the feedback!
Is it possible to check the intake filter of rex?
I do not know of a simple way to check this. It is a 'non-serviceable' item per the specs, and I haven't found anyone who has changed this.
Great video.
Have you thought about the transmission oil ? it's supposed to last the lifetime of the car but some people change it at 80,000 KM.
Thank you for this ❤
You're welcome 😊.
Thanks 😉
Our 2020 i3 internal heater blower has no heat but no faults, do you know where the heat sensor is

Ive just done one hub, you mention at 16:00.

Done! Check the video description for the link.

Yes- Bimmercode and a Vpeak OBD connector. Thanks for the feedback!

The battery is cooled by the AC compressor!
The Shockabsorber Protector, go to BMW ..If you have luck they replace them for free
Had the same Problem 1. 2018 30 000 km
