#Recognition to Garífuna Activist. MIRTA Colón on this day in celebration of Women's Day in the Bronx County, celebrated by NY State Elected Officials, Mrs. Mirta Colón was awarded by the United States Congress and the Bronx Borough President, in whose event The Governor of NY was present and several others elected officials were present, Mirta thanked Congressman Ritchie Torres and the Borough President Vanessa Gibson for this recognition and stressed that this recognition is not only for her but for the entire Garífuna community in general. Mirta Colón has a long history of activism in favor of the Garífuna people, she is currently President of CABO, Hondurans against AIDS, Casa Yurumein and part of the Garífuna Advisory Group which is working to promote laws and benefits in favor of our Garífuna community in United States and Central America.
