I finally made sugar peonies that I LOVE! I'm honestly so excited to share this tutorial because now it's peony season all year round!
This is a no wire gum paste peony tutorial (which makes me love it more, bc I'm not a fan of wiring petals...), and you can make it with pretty much any flower paste or gum paste- you'll just want to make sure it's strong enough to hold the outermost petals.
TIPS:
- Work in stages (small petals first, medium petals next, large petals last)
- Don't wait until your petals are entirely dry to "glue" them to your center (you won't be able to change the shape at this point)
- HAVE FUN! The most beautiful flowers are different! Do what feels right!

Hi! I’ve linked the cutters in the description, so if you follow it you’ll see the exact sized of everything. The final flower is about 12cm across wi the most outer, open petals. This can change depending on how you position the petals. 💖
What material did you use for the petals? My gumpaste dries completely hard and does not remain pliable?

Hi I’m currently practicing for a wedding cake competition at my school and this video was very helpful. I also wondering if you know how long the flowers take to dry because I have to make them the at the competition and I’m worried about timing . And a tips would be very appreciated: thanks ❤
Of course! This all depends on the flower paste you're using. Mine takes a long time to dry, so there's definitely no rush. But other gum pastes dry really quickly, so you'll want to work in batches and faster. I wish I had a definitive answer, but your paste and climate are so important. 💖

How do you make the petals very thin?
@@Zanaz728 my paste allows me to go thin, but really I just roll and stretch until I’m comfortable 😊
How do you get your , I assume, gumpaste so thin?!
My gumpaste recipe allows it. But very important, I think it’s also a trick of the eye. Bc my recipe is semi translucent, it probably appears thinner than it actually is 🥰.

That no from sugar paste a thing from porcelain clays.
So sweet! This is very much sugar paste. It acts like clay. It’s my own recipe. I’m working in creating a course for it! But it’s definitely sugar. 💖
If you made the petals out of gumpaste how come you can bend the petals a bit without breaking them since the petals are not wired. This seem to me like it's made of cold porcelain and not gumpaste because gumpaste petals are actually quite brittle once dried. I've been cake decorating for 30 years on & off. Nice tutorial.
Good observation! But I assure you it is a gumpaste. It’s my own homemade recipe that stays flexible and is semi translucent. I sell the recipe as a course if you’re ever interested- it’s linked in the description. 💖 it’s the only gumpaste I use now. Traditional is too brittle in my opinion.

Never knew sugarpaste can be flexible like Cold porcelain.
I know 🥰. Not many people are aware of how to manipulate sugar paste to be flexible. I have a whole course on it because I find it so helpful to have that over brittle flower paste.

Thank you so much! You can definitely slow it down. You adjust the settings on the UA-cam video (the little gear symbol on the bottom of the videos) to go faster/slower/change the subtitle language, etc. ❤️ I hope that helps!

This is just brilliant. Your petals look like they are rolled out very thinly yet you are doing a lot of manipulation without breakage. Do you think that the paste that you are using is helping with the look and process? I will love to try the paste that you used.

I mean technically yes... but really what we're doing here is ensuring we have food safe flowers to place on a cake that won't poison our guests, wilt bc they're out of water, and will ensure we have any flower of our choice (not just what's in season). 💖

Your turtorial is awesome but I am wondering if you have used gumpaste for peony making or something else? Your patels are paper thin and I love them but dont think I can achieve the thinness with my gumpaste.
Awesome observation! I use my own homemade rice paste for my flowers because I'm a mom and so I can rarely sit through an entire flower without being interrupted 😅. My flower paste doesn't dry up quickly so it helps me in that way. I will have a course available for it soon, if you're interested, but you can definitely do this flower with any other gumpaste or clay... just make sure if its gumpaste to work in sections (small petals first, then medium, then large), because traditional gumpaste dries more quickly. Hope that makes sense! 💖

Hello dear,these flowers look gorgeous.I had a question for you ^^. Are we able to make these with a substitute that is more easily edible.
What do you consider more easily edible? Sugar flowers are typically made from some type of gumpaste or wafer paper. Anything else like pure chocolate, you can make, but it won't be as realistic. Let me know if you had anything else in mind! 💖
@@FiveTwoBaker I do not possess much knowledge about baking.But,I've heard that sugar flowers tend to harden which makes it hard to eat.I was referring to more of a dough sort of material.
absolutely amazing tutorial! thank you so much for sharing! Now, how do you do to prevent breakage when placing them on a cake? those petals are very thin and open. If you put some of these flowers together how do they do to not break?
Thank you! I think 2 things help: 1. Practice.... there's no getting around it, cake art is a delicate art, we just have to practice. And 2. A good flower paste. Mine is flexible in most climates, so I don't have to worry about that much... and when it's dry I can steam them and get them to be flexible again. This helps a lot.

Ah, it's a flower paste I make at home. I'm working on a course for it, just waiting for the city to ok my license. ☺️ It's an interesting paste because it stays flexible while maintaining its shape. It's what I use on most of my flowers now. 💕

Good eyes! I never mention it because I haven't completed the course for it. But it's my homemade flower paste. It's semi translucent, rolls super thin, and is flexible.
