Yes, 100% agree! The texture lies in your genetics not in the products. I started using only gel. You can go fancier as you go, depending on your hairs needs.
That being said I will buy myself a scalp brush :D

My audible gas when she said, you don’t need a scalp brush/massager. I guess my hair is thicker than hers or I am more prone to scalp build up, but it is a game changer! I have low porosity hair, so I massage my scalp every single day when I’m in the shower. I am CHANGED like I can feel wind on my scalp now, even with my little fro I can feel wind on my scalp! And my scalp has a sheen. I’ve literally only used it for four days and I’m addicted to it. Literally, hands-down, by far, 1000%, no lies best Fricken $5 dollars I’ve ever spent.

@@amygo7374 that sounds so good. My hair is medium but it does take a couple minutes and some muscle to wash it thouroughly. Maybe its just some build up. It would be great if the massager could save some time and energy.

@@kleinerplagegeistplagegeis5057 It does save a bunch of time and energy. I can tell when my scalp is clean with the brush and keep going because it feels so good. My fingers scrubbing my scalp in a chore, some else doing it is soothing. This scalp brush is so soothing. This takes half the time of my normal wash.

I am 72 years old and I have healthy, shiny naturally wavy/curly hair. What I know is that when it comes to hair like mine, less is more. You do not need curly girl products at all. Use a gentle shampoo that is paraben free. You can use shampoos that are safe for color treated hair even if you do not color your hair. And a little bit goes a long way. Use a light weight conditioner. If you have dense heavy hair like mine, putting extra products on it just weighs it down. While your hair is wet, gently with your fingers and a wide tooth comb, get the tangles out. Put a few clips at the root where you want volume. Then, this is the hard part ---- LEAVE IT ALONE.

17:01 "satin is just fine" especially because that satin is the way fibers are weaved together while silk is a fiber
That means you can have satin fabrics made out of silk (like within the items she showed), cotton or polyester

I feel like what’s necessary or not for a persons curly hair routine is subjective. It all depends on your preferences and what works for your hair. You said yourself, Some of these things you don’t like because they don’t work on your hair. People just need to not be blind and buying evrything people tell them to buy lol

The Shark hair dryer is half the price, multiple tests have suggested it is just as good as the Dyson, AND doesn’t get as hot for those worried about heat damage (or for people like me who have a dry scalp that gets SO ITCHY if too much heat touches it).
Also - using my edge control to tame my eyebrows?? Why didn’t I ever think of that???? Genius!

Continuous water spray bottles are made for aerodynamic reasons, putting less strain and stress on your wrist and fingers to reduce carpools tunnel, ( first found out about them in beauty school) so for a person doing hair all day they are helpful.

Thanks for the video! If you don’t mind, I’d like to clarify something about satin. I often see this confusion so I try to clarify it whenever I can.
Silk is a fiber, and satin is a weave. What I mean by that is that satin can be made of multiple different fibers, including silk, like how jersey can be made of wool, cotton, nylon, rayon, or silk (but we assume cotton because that’s what it’s usually made of). what I’m assuming you meant is that you opt for a polyester satin instead of a silk satin, as that’s typically what people mean.
Hope this came across with the intended spirit of sharing information and not rude or nitpicky, and thanks again for making this video! It’s always nice to hear about more affordable alternatives for hair care ❤

I love my denman brush and I will still use it but the tangle teaser doesn’t work well for me. My sister once gifted me the detangler brush, and it’s honestly all I need!! It’s so much easier to detangle my hair, it takes less time and it helps you prevent damaging your ends. PLUS: it’s really cheap! I’d recommend this brush to every curly person out there!

    I wholeheart agree
I respect the hustle of being a content creator and partnering up with brands and such that vibe with what you're doing, but also, "less is more" works like a charm
I will say tho! I used to think scalp massagers were pointless, but when I started to get arthritis in the joints from fingers to shoulder, a scalp massager or a wet brush to help lather the shampoo on my scalp really, reallly helped! I alleviated the pain and precision I had to have with my fingers, it was a heavensent!
But naturally, most products are just trends and not really thought out for acessibility..... starting by their prices lol

Great video! Very helpful in figuring out what products to try and what to save on. I will say, as someone with scalp psoriasis, a scalp brush is helpful in removing buildup without exhausting my hands. I also like the accessibility factor of a continuous spray bottle as my hands get sore and tired due to medical conditions, so spraying fewer times means my routine can be easier and I can save my energy for where I need it. I wholeheartedly agree with you though, most of these products are not NECESSARY for everyone, but I am glad they are available for those who like or need them.

I have become such a product junkie! I'm slowly throwing things out. I'd see the new stuff and want to try it and I literally had a file pine full of products. From now on if I want to try a product, I'm looking for travel sizes first. That way I try and that's it. If I like it then I'll buy the product. I used the spray bottle during the rice water craze. I still use it, but not as much. I got rid of Aphogee. I didn't need it either. I have type 4 LoPo hair, so I have to stay focus on that because a lot of these trends and stuff was not meant for my hair and it has wreaked my progress, so I have to really research.

My hair growth has been massive and continuous for all my life. I use a sulfate shampoo that I apply directly on my scalp, a deep conditioner (Skala hasn't even done me wrong), hair cream (I buy thick ones and if I need them thinner for a specific day, I water them down. If I need them to spray, I mix with water and sunflower oil). I use gel to clump my curls or for twisting (Eco or Salon Line gels work best for me) and coconut oil for that bling and seal. It's been the same routine for literally all my life, learned with my grandma and mom (obviously they used different products on me, like a gel that has been discontinued) and we were taught to always sleep with silk or satin protecting our heads, covering our pillows, keeping our ends away from the clothes and so on. It's simple and it works for me. I tend to chop my curls at nipple length, dried, but I have decided to see how far I can take this and maybe I'll get SZA in 5 years or so lol.

It's just a trend but I can help but laugh at the term "de-influencing" because that's literally influencing.
Everyone is an influencer of something in daily life. It honestly isn't a negative term. It's more about the person influencing and their morals.
I get the feeling that you may not want to be labeled as an influencer because of it's negative connotations, so if you are, I just want you to know that you are an absolutely awesome person who takes the time out of their day to give honest extensive reviews and help people make informed choices! Don't feel bad for having a platform (If you even do! I never want to assume).

Lol! yeah I have loads of these
    1. Microfibre/jersey towel....just use a t-shirt.
    2. Denman brush....I have 1 not 2. Lol!
    3. the dyson supersonic with diffuser....nah.. I don't own that and I doubt I wil own it...I air dry my hair 95% of the year.
    4. Plastic caps. I don't have lots of plastic carrier bags anymore because I have been using reusable bags since 2006 and I live in a small flat in London. I can't use space for carrier bags only.
    5. Flexi rod- use rags instead. Rags are not going to be good for my fine dry hair. 1. it will dry out my hair too much and 2 my fine strand will catch on the cut edges. plastic roller last a long time. it's not something you have to buy regularly. I still have rollers that are 20 years old.
    6. Flyaway/baby hair fixer in a tube. Lol! I've learned to embrace the frizz and I always have some old mascara wands knocking around. I definitely do not need this.
    7. Coco & Eve Miracle Elixir... Lol! I don't need this...I use the Olaplex Oil. it's more expensive but it works well for my hair.
    8. Wax stick: I have a wax stick for my wigs.
    9. Edgebrushes: I have a few but they came as an additional gift. Lol! I do my edges once a week or less. Lol!
    10. Scalp Brush: When I used my scalp brush every day My hair grew way faster than I ever expected...but if your hair grows fast already you do not need a scalp brush.
    11. Continuous spray bottle. Since I just use pre-made hair water I no longer use the spray bottle.
    12. Refreshing Mist: Yeah I need to use this or something similar like the pre-made hard water because my hair gets really dry. I have to spray my hair 1-3 times a day. If you hair isn't dry you don't need this.
    13. Dyson air wrap....same as the dyson super sonic..nah and nope.
    14. Pre-made silk wraps for 70-99 bucks. Just go to the market and buy a metre of silk fabric and sew the edges and ta-da you have a silk wrap for less than 20. or just use a regular satin bonnet...or satin fabric. lol!
    15. Bond builder: I stand by Olaplex because my hair is genetically weak and I use it sparingly and not as a replacement for moisture or protein products. Literally the Olaplex kit at £120 last me over a year. If your hair is damaged or needs strengthening due to genetics, colour, perm relaxer, damage, illness or medication, you can just buy the small size of Olaplex kit on sale and it will last you the year if you use it once a week or less.
My trichologists say you don't need edge control or scalp scrubs. I'm sure people say they need them but yeah we do not need to buy every product on the market.

Great idea for a video, love your enthusiasm, and you're giving great advice except--you're wrong about 1 of them! The continuous water sprayer. Are you kidding me, that is SO worth the money! Especially for those with exceptionally long hair, like my son, who has curly hair like yours, but it's to his waist. It dries super fast, and that continuous spray bottle keeps me from having to spray it over and over to keep it wet while detangling and braiding! And it's *especially* good for those with carpel tunnel like me--It's literally painful to have to keep spraying a bottle. So that continuous spray bottle is a life saver, and well worth the money.

It always strikes me as weird that dozens of “influencers” like you have bothered to make de-influence videos on products that you bought / were gifted and paid to use. You’re right, a lot of these products can be purchased cheaper than the viral name brand, and many others are unnecessary, but who are you influencers really to tell your followers what not to buy when you’ve been trying to sell us these products for years already! Hypocrisy is not a good look.

Like I said in the videos, I love lots of the products I use and will keep using them, this video is simply providing cheaper alternatives as we're currently in a cost crisis. I will continue to recommend them for those who can afford them - as they're usually slightly better than the cheaper ones, but decent cheaper ones will do. The products that I said I don't like at all, I never recommended and never will. I have always tried to highlight sustainability above everything. Hope that helps!

Getting Loads of false information on TikTok. It’s almost like they’re doing it on purpose for clout views whatever.
