Literally paused to answer your question of a 5 toughness creature that you see all the time: Iymrith. Anything pumped by Luminarch Asspirate. An out of hand Monk of Open Fist. A first turn Wrenn Token. But I get your point. Battle of Frost and Fire was the first change I made when I saw your last list
Hi mate. So, this deck is a very dificult one to play agains. Maybe you could bring us an esper control based on nulifying the izzet/jeskai/grixis turns?
No. The token/aura officially have a CMC of 0. Divide By Zero can only bounce 1 CMC or greater. No bounce spell can bounce a land. Fading Hope specifically States "Creature", so it can bounce creature lands after they're activated and able to be declared attackers.
I'd say Burn Down the House is a better fit than Battle of Frost and Fire 5 damage can really make a difference with Treefolk tokens, and it has the potential upside of creating the Devils. You miss on the Scry, but I'd still say is worth it given there aren't any giants in the deck, and that, in a really big board, you COULD copy the spell and deal 10 tl everything.
With Burn you also miss on the divide by zero picking up the battle so you can sweep a second time and the extra card draw from casting epiphany on stage 3.
I really like the jeskai tokens version of this deck. Where you use burn down the house and stuff to have a bunch of tokens and life gain in the early game.
You mentioned that people didn't watch your last izzet video, and I thought I'd mention why sometimes I don't watch videos all the way through. Generally, I don't always watch combo videos or aggro videos all the way through because after the first couple games I know how it's going to work (although i do skim to see if there are specific matchups that are useful to know). For instance, mono white aggro's biggest decision often seems to be whether or not to hold a creature in hand in case of a board wipe. My favorite videos are the control ones, where as a viewer I'm unsure if you will succeed. Close games with lots of decision making and commentary are the most entertaining, but I also understand that they can be the most frustrating and fatiguing, and combo videos and aggro videos are still very informative and entertaining just because you're the one piloting them. That all being said, this deck's combo happens on turn 8 without ramp, so there's plenty of suspense about if you will succeed against the ancestral foe (aggro).
Why do you not run lier in the izzet turns? since you have a control shell, couldn't you double turn, then spend a turn liering, then you have all your alrunds again!
For discard to combat this, relying on 'Go Blank' to wipe out the graveyard would definitely be a great help. Otherwise, playing around with hexproof to combat bounce and giant/changelings for against the board wipe may be a decent counter strategy. Then again, even with a deck designed to counter, it may still only win 50%.
The ones that I've been playing today have all had the Goldspan in it, and I went against it four times and just kept getting slaughtered. One guy had six. SIX. turns in a row.
It shouldve been banned a long time ago. 6 or 7 mana for an extra turn and 2 fliers to boot? I play it all the time and win with it all the time. Playing against it sucks. The game is usually over at that point and the opponent doesn't get a response most of the time. I feel bad when I do play it.
Seriously, Alrund's needs a ban asap, it completely warps the format around it. Maybe Wizards will someday learn extra turns is a terrible mechanic in a turn based game.
Seems odd, based on the wording of AE, that you get several turns in a row when copying it multiple times in the space of one turn. It doesn't merely say "take an extra turn." it specifies "after this one". It hasn't said anything about what happens after your next turn, only about what happens after this one. So why do these copies of AE behave as if they have been cast on a turn other than the one they have been cast on?
It's just how the rules of the game work.... 500.7. Some effects can give a player extra turns. They do this by adding the turns directly after the specified turn. If a player is given multiple extra turns, the extra turns are added one at a time. If multiple players are given extra turns, the extra turns are added one at a time, in APNAP order (see rule 101.4). The most recently created turn will be taken first.
i just picked up the game after 20 years without playing it, and facing this kind of deck kinda feel u aren't even playing the same game XD it is frustrating as hell. i'm in the process of collecting cards in order to actually try to find my way through this madness XD .. everytime i see a blue land falling on the board i'm sad now XD and even if sometime by some miracle i manage to beat it , i had some surprise where idroped from 20 to 0 hp in a "single" turn lol .. mtga is..magic i guess : p
Low level ladder has not committed to this yet, but I still added 3 duress to my mono black anyways. It’s good against almost everything except mono white, which 7 sweepers deal with nicely.
You could try Check for Traps, hits creatures and exiles. However in my experience they just foretell the Epiphany and you can't touch it anyway. Duress is a bit more likely to hit before that but then they just draw another one end of turn with Memory Deluge. It's a nightmare for anything without counterspells.
To answer part one, because Galvanic Iteration can be cast again for its flashback cost. To answer part two, because it's the extra turns that are (always) the problem. Hence the Nexus of Fate and Time Warp bans in historic.
@@FatboyGengiz I guess my biggest inquiry is why Alrund's Epiphany wasn't as big of an issue before Galvanic Iteration, when Teach By Example was a thing. @@FR0STBL0D Certainly agree, the lier stuff is so powerful that it should be "fiddly" to use it. galvanic and epiphany OTOH are incredibly easy to use (just keep some extra mana to stop the counters that are likely to come from a blue deck and good to go). We really need more free scry effects for this reason. Also, been saying this for years but going 2nd should allow 1 free mulligan.
First try i get a reminder why I love this kind of decks.
Openent playing storm the festival got a letal attack with his 2nd epiphany. And hits me with the GG.
Then I bounce 2 tokens and survive with
1 life. Stablise and take 3 extra turns for the W.
I would have loved to see a game against a Wrenn deck, are the bounces enough since you can't really sweep even small treefolks?
They typically just bounce the treefolk out of existence
Literally paused to answer your question of a 5 toughness creature that you see all the time: Iymrith. Anything pumped by Luminarch Asspirate. An out of hand Monk of Open Fist. A first turn Wrenn Token.
But I get your point. Battle of Frost and Fire was the first change I made when I saw your last list
Thanks for putting me on this I love it
Hi mate. So, this deck is a very dificult one to play agains. Maybe you could bring us an esper control based on nulifying the izzet/jeskai/grixis turns?
Question....Can Old Bridge Troll be Divided By Zero in it's "Land Aura" state?
No. The token/aura officially have a CMC of 0. Divide By Zero can only bounce 1 CMC or greater. No bounce spell can bounce a land. Fading Hope specifically States "Creature", so it can bounce creature lands after they're activated and able to be declared attackers.
Here come the birds....and there goes the opponent...best comment for CGB
I swear this video just made it so more people are playing it and it's killing me.
Can you do rakdos?
When this happened to me all I could do is sit admire and chuckle at the ridiculousness of this combo 😂
Ah yes. Haha, so funny, so admirable. Are you still laughing about it now that is happened to you like 20 times?
I've got your previous izzet turns deck, and work great for me. Gonna check new version a well
Just here for the ostrich recipes! Flame broiled? Charcoaled? Toasted? Nope, I prefer my ostrich to give up all hope first!
I'd say Burn Down the House is a better fit than Battle of Frost and Fire
5 damage can really make a difference with Treefolk tokens, and it has the potential upside of creating the Devils.
Or copy it for +3 hasters on your Epiphany turn, or even more if you Cinderclasm it.
@@adarian That is true, i forgot about Divide
Still, it could be worth the try
You mean can I think of a 5 power creature OTHER than Wrenn's Treefolk, right?
he says "just in case we draw the snarl" AND THEN HE DRAWS THE SNARL
I've been on this since you played a version of it a few weeks back! I never feel like I'm out of the game even when I have a hard time stabilizing
Sweet deck!
I think you forgot to show the sideboard in the opening or I missed it. Not that's it's usually too different.
Well you get to see it all at the end
Oh man. I guess you haven't seen the version with Efreet Flamepainter yet?
I really like the jeskai tokens version of this deck. Where you use burn down the house and stuff to have a bunch of tokens and life gain in the early game.
It's clear watching this that it's completely b unnecessary
Me after every game you won: "Disgusting."
Oh god, I'm getting Nexus of Fate 'nam flashbacks. * Dry Heaves *
It feels like every rotation there is an infinite turns combo that gets banned or "should"
You mentioned that people didn't watch your last izzet video, and I thought I'd mention why sometimes I don't watch videos all the way through.
Oh sweet, iteration tribal!
i feel like i need a bath after watching all that greasy magic
12:31 me every time I play Pot of Greed
For discard to combat this, relying on 'Go Blank' to wipe out the graveyard would definitely be a great help. Otherwise, playing around with hexproof to combat bounce and giant/changelings for against the board wipe may be a decent counter strategy. Then again, even with a deck designed to counter, it may still only win 50%.
Go blank should see some use as I don't think there us another way to exile an opponents entire graveyard with one card. The discard is almost gravy.
I've been trying to do a GW coven deck...
Its not very strong..
where is the "why not cast the nexus of fate" meme from?
The ones that I've been playing today have all had the Goldspan in it, and I went against it four times and just kept getting slaughtered. One guy had six. SIX. turns in a row.
Epiphany always floats to the top of the deck. I only run 2 in my Izzet list and it's always there when I need it. Kinda spooky.....
This cancerous deck will be dead after worlds
I see Alrund’s getting banned 100%
They wouldn't ban it before worlds. That would crash the deck preparations
I constantly get screwed by Teachings of the Archaics. I've decided to run one Teachings and one Intro to Prophecy.
I need to take a shower after watching this haha. Good content anyway, as always.
I’m playing a deck right now big combo is scute swarm brought back by doll house, they get as big as they are wide
"Can anyone defeat me today? ... Probably not" - CGB 2021
Kalain may also provide problems for battle of frost and fire.
i just picked up the game after 20 years without playing it, and facing this kind of deck kinda feel u aren't even playing the same game XD it is frustrating as hell.
i'm in the process of collecting cards in order to actually try to find my way through this madness XD .. everytime i see a blue land falling on the board i'm sad now XD and even if sometime by some miracle i manage to beat it , i had some surprise where idroped from 20 to 0 hp in a "single" turn lol .. mtga is..magic i guess : p
i don't get your point sorry xD
Hello Nexus of Fate, we didn't miss you.
every time I see a blue deck I know any hope of having fun that game is a fantasy!
Wouldn't the dragon egg card be good in this deck? Epiphany turns it into a 4/4 and you can burn face with it.
not playing creatures means all their removal spells are dead
better keep this deck free from creatures to turn opponents removal into dead cards
35:41 More like three weird looking hands with all those Spikefield Hazards
Why wasn't this popular with Teach By Example?
Why not ban Galvanic Iteration instead of Alrund's?
because alrund's epiphany is a disgusting card. also the biggest addition isn't iteration its deluge
So that leads me to wonder again: why not ban Galvanic instead of Alrund's, as Alrund's wasn't a big issue beforehand?
I'm not too knowledgeable on this. Please guide my thought
I'm surprised that the win rate isn't higher! To be perfectly honest, when I come up against this deck as soon as they play the epiphany, I quit. I've always hated playing against blue control, and this deck just sucks the fun out of the game for me.
Yup. I hate this card. I refuse to burn wildcards on it or even play it. Not only will I quit if its played, I will make the opponent wait out the win and just AFK for 5 mins.
Azorius deck in the beginning is probably you ! lol
Loving this deck, more than the Azorius control with Lier. This one is plenty of control but Lier just feels too "fiddly" trying to fish through the graveyard. Haven't played a lot, but 2-0 against mono-green (that's all I got matched with). Feels good clearing the board with only 6 health left then starting to unload galvanic and birds.
@@FR0STBL0D Certainly agree, the lier stuff is so powerful that it should be "fiddly" to use it. galvanic and epiphany OTOH are incredibly easy to use (just keep some extra mana to stop the counters that are likely to come from a blue deck and good to go). It may be worth a ban, but in the meantime its fun to play.
NICE !
Day 107 of asking CGB to play a deck with Mystic Reflection and Reflections of Littjara in it.
That’s more of an LVD video
I like burn the house down instead of battle because of the extra damage, being able to copy, and get 1/1 haste’s to help kill opponent on extra turns
Had a dude do this back to back. 4 turns of me not being able to do anything was some bs lol
