    Relatable 😂

    Agree your actually showing us what it’s like through the good and bad which makes the best type of video on it.

      Really appreciate that. I’ve always been like that with my videos as I watch a lot of YT of hikes before I go normally and then when I’m there I’m always surprised how different it is. Rather show exactly what it’s like as definitely some tough sections in this both physically but mentally too.

    Wow, couldn’t have been more different to the day I did this stage on 14 Sep. It was completely covered in snow, all the way up to Bonhomme, and quite deep going across to the refuge! Great video!

      @krisgleave  Місяць тому

      Was that the 14 Sep as in just a few weeks ago? My adventure was the start of September so if that’s the case that crazy with the snow. Or was this another year? I bet it’s epic in snow.

    hello Kris, well, that was a rough start to the day. I imagine that rain made those rocks a bit sketchy to walk on. I'm glad you found a place to warm up a little. weather like that is a good way to get hypothermia. Hopefully, the weather was more favorable for the rest of the trip and I'm very much looking forward to seeing the rest of this beautiful adventure.

      Thanks Dwayne. The slippery parts were actually alright…is was more the driving rain, being soaked through to the bone and being freezing and obviously the tricky footing in all the water and crossings. Mentally draining and if that’s had carried on the following day it would’ve been really tough. Thankfully weather improved the next day.

    Love following your journey , up to now step by step what I did 11th to 16th sept . This section I had snow from Les Mottets to col de la Seigneurial. I’m looking forward to your next video 🏔️

      Mentally tough as well as physically. I was absolutely freezing at the hut. Didn’t film inside it as literally shaking and just rubbing my hands together for 20 mins as couldn’t feel them and so cold. Everyone who came in added extra layers but mine were deep in my bag. Also I was soaked through anyway and wanted dry clothes for that night.

    Excellent stuff, top decision to take the bus option & what a dream to get a bed in the refuge! 👍

    • @krisgleave
      @krisgleave  Місяць тому +1

      I was so happy to get a bed. Also it was great to experience that side of it too. Meeting lots of other people all eating and chatting together. It’s the people you remember and where the memories are made so recommend anyone do that at least once.
      The bus was such a good option. It was actually only €4 and allowed us to skip that little section along the valley especially after the torrential weather we’d had all day.

    I stood in exactly the same spot waiting for the rain to stop. It never did! I had a gossamer gear umbrella that attached to my bag strap that worked really well though.

    • @krisgleave
      @krisgleave  Місяць тому

      Aah you missed the decent views like me then. How do you find the umbrella? Does it stay on okay with your bag? Heard a few people mention them now I’ll have to look into them. Just imagine if it’s windy they’re a waste of time? Do let me know.

    • @bitasuite
      @bitasuite Місяць тому

      @@krisgleave it worked well. Slips a little bit but nothing major. I was in shorts and t shirt on the ascents and everyone else was sweating in a poncho. Doesn't work in any more than light wind. Supposed to be good in the desert for the sun too, but don't really need that in England lol

      @krisgleave  Місяць тому

      Thank you. I have a Mac so edit on Final Cut Pro and just used to that. You can use whatever you’re comfortable with. Even on your phone if it’s easier. CapCut is a great free software too and works on phone or laptop if you need somewhere to start. Can do lots with that too.

    • @krisgleave
      @krisgleave  Місяць тому

      Thank you. It was so tricky to film as it was hard enough in the rain and I was absolutely freezing and soaking on the way up. Glad I found the camera I would’ve been devastated losing it and the footage.

    I appreciate your honesty about taking the shuttle! Just to clarify, it seems that skipping a section means you haven’t completed the entire Tour du Mont Blanc as it’s traditionally done. Either way, it’s great to see your journey

    Shocking weather are you sure your not on the Carneddau 😂. Have you thought about getting a belay jacket, Ive got a Keela, great insulation that you put on over the waterproofs, nothing worse than the need to remove stuff especially when wet.

    • @krisgleave
      @krisgleave  Місяць тому +1

      Yeah I’ve heard good things about Keela. I do have a much better jacket at home but wanted this for the colour 😂. On something like this too you want lightweight so the only other thing I could’ve done which would’ve been a great idea was to take a compactor sack or really rough big bag and cut head and arm holes. That would’ve helped to have on top.

    To people who say British mountaineering is crap. How would you compare the thrill of being in the alps to that of being in the lake district?
    PS l love the lakes, but my British mates will never join me there as there instinctly write off the British mountains as the are simply not as high

    • @krisgleave
      @krisgleave  Місяць тому +1

      Great question and not an easy one to answer. I love long distance trails and being out on the trail…wherever it is. Yes it’s awesome to have different views, awesome vistas and more. But I get just the same thrill being up in the mountains on a decent hike.
      Think I remember saying in this video or another it felt like I was in the Lakes. Obviously just higher but hard to appreciate the elevation at times.
      Height isn’t everything. Some cracking mountains in wales and the lakes. Obviously lots in Scotland although I haven’t done much in there. But they’re another level up there.
