I've played Speed Run 4 for a while now, and seeing the newest update is sad. I hate how a fun and chill game went to a cash grab money-hungry one. Not to mention, there are still people defending the creators for making this choice. Like all you can do is buy useless pets, run around to get energy, sell energy for money, and buy even more useless pets. Do better, developers.

I had a thought that roblox developers are forced in two paths either sign a contract to the devil and become greedy and money-hungry losers, or be a fun developer but NOBODY plays your game so it becomes a dune. I think what hits the nail of coffin imo is when they charged a level for 1K ROBUX??! after finishing the game. I enjoyed your content, will look forward to it any new uploads if I'll remember you existing (better be honest than sugarcoating it lol).

I saw that Speed Run 4 added pets a while back, but I kinda glossed over it since I was more focused on completing speed run levels. Now that I know Speed Run 4 has become a gacha pet simulator game, I probably won’t return to the game (or at least if I do, I will ignore the pets system and just play the game as it was originally intended: a speed run game).

i think its really all about adaptation. most old roblox games are left in the dust, and for speed run 4 to be away from that crowd, they have to grow, change, and adapt. although many og players arent happy with this, playing 'speed run 4 classic' is always an option. at the end of the day, vurse is a dev making a career, and changing through time is common in any kind of business.
Well the reason why people are mad is because it’s just plain disrespectful to the people who enjoyed the game. The creator could have just, made another game with all of the Pet Sim ripoff garbage, yet chose to screw up a beloved classic game. And the whole “adapting” idea is just plain dumb, if THIS is adapting to new times then I don’t want an adaptation. It’s about fun obstacle courses and speed-running, not this garbage.

As the first owner of the impossible mode speed run 4 game when it was 1000 robux paid access game, I am quite sad to hear that speed run 4 became a simulator-esque game and no longer the actual fast running speed game it once was. I used to visit this game way back in 2014 or so and its simplistic speed type playstyle was partly why everyone was so drawn to it. Now it is slowly dying and it makes sense to make a change, but not to your own game that everyone knows and loves.
What I wish the creator did was keep Speed Run 4 the way it was, create a new simulator game with all the simulator crap, and a Speed Run 5 with the new interesting art style.
Vurse could’ve just left the game as it is and be making practically the same amount of money as he is right now, just in a longer time span. But of course he has to be greedy.

I played this game back in 2015 and it was just turn off your brain and run. Now the game doesn’t fit its name anymore. The point of “Speedrun” is to complete your goal as fast as you could but now there’s gambling and you have to pay your way to a new area is mind boggling. Instead of making Speed Run 5 with its new art direction (ai art too) and other aspects instead the developer decided to change speed run 4 entirely. Atleast you can play the classic version.

For a few months or a year if i remember i actually liked playing speedrun 4 mostly to get the badge for beating the game 30 times and on all the modes and really enjoyed it a lot and when the donut event realeased i wasnt that mad i still played it but as i could play the normal levels normally until the pets got added and well i kinda quit playing speedrun 4 as i noticed when leaving rejoining the game i was left on the last level i was on which i didnt like at all mostly because i found it as making the game easier instead of starting at level one every time id spawn in the last level i was on

It's sad to see the direction this game has taken over the years, especially when you're like me and have played it all those years ago, however, from a dev standpoint they gotta keep their game relevant somehow and this is sadly the easiest way to do it. I'm just glad the classic version is still available for those wanna reminisce :)
I just opened up the game for the first time in years alongside this video. It has the horrible simulator guide arrows at the beginning (which I always despise). It has pets. You can't even just walk through the gate at the end anymore, you have to click continue (or change it to auto continue.) This is sad man

what i hate the most is the addition of more stages. hate the sudden increase in quality with the new base levels, makes actually playing more difficult for no reason. i just wanted to get under 20 minutes with 30 stages man
it's okay to add new stages, the game really needs some, but add them in a separate level pack and not in the same realm as the classic levels, really ruins the feel for me..

With the new energy system and levels being barred off, if you dont have enough, it is stupid. Although I don't dislike the idea of barring levels off only if you had to beat it in a certain amount of time.
Honestly the most annoying part of the pet simulator part is the fact it does basically nothing for the actual gameplay and the pet seller’s interaction ring actually goes into the level so you have this massive, barely avoided-able menu that really detracts you from the core gameplay.
i used to love this game so much and i. still do? just now i have to only play the classic version. the weird ai generated donut roblox event already had me knowing the slopification was upon us and when the pet update was out and the player was basically FORCED to buy a pet (i felt so uncomfortable. like the walls blocking all the other features? the fact i couldn't skip the pet tutorial and had to do everything????? dude chill...........) i just felt. almost horrible frankly .
I really prefer the old game, but the new art style is decent just very unfitting, I think there could of been other ways such as making a new game, etc

This game is the reason I play video games today and the reason I am where I am on the internet, but it's a bit unfortunate to see where it's gotten to. I think the breaking point was a lot later for me than a lot of people, as I don't think it was too bad until this recent pets bs. I agree about your points on the new levels' designs most of all. Hey ivo, if you really like classic styled fun games with non greedy developers you could check out facekiller when it comes out. It's full of action, violence, fun, and replayability :D
So this is the fate of the game now.. I used to run this game and it's part of the reason I ended up playing osu since players like maxds and albert were playing both around the time I joined the community. I stopped running it when the level layout changed but to see it reach this low is really disappointing
the new speedrun maps look ABSOLUTELY AMAZING but the gameplay is so bad they should have just let you unlock it by beating original or made it just some extra bonus levels you can do

Is that when playing with the 5 challenges on as one of the people who have done all game modes at once With the new level, it forces you to pick from like 5 different options that are supposed to be associated. What's the game of that are different and it just brings? Oh weird disconnect. And it makes it harder and more unfair for people. The game game when it was on when 30 lvl and you could be doing just fine with the original challenges and then get screwed up. Because you didn't know halfway. Through, you're gonna have to switch them all. And then do that again

It's true that simulator updates may not be a good idea. But I think it's better than being forgotten about without any updates and no players. I think that having to make updates like this is unavoidable in order to keep the game's population in current Roblox. Personally, I'm proud that an old game has changed its form and is still a popular game ;)

Once the new updates came in with the portal doors, where you had to click to continue and they got rid of the player timers on the leaderboards- I stopped playing. SR4 classic isnt great either since it's earlier then the one a few years back and lacks a lot of the better features of the modern versions. TL;DR, Vurse likes men.
I played SR4 for the first time in 2017 and left the game once I finished it. I occasionally played a little when I was bored but decided to replay the game again once they added new levels. The pet system is weird, idk why they would add pets to speed run 4 other than for making money
I don't feel like the game lost his core mechanic as while you don't put a lot of attention on the rest of things they've added over time. The only things that bother me is the that big npc at the start of every level that could obstruct your vision and the fact they forced new levels on the "classic" dimension or mode that's something that feels really off, if vurse you putted those levels on a new dimension i won't be caring about these.
I started playing Roblox in 2012 and I don’t know what is bro yapping about… just play the old Speed Run 4 if your only goal is to experience nostalgia 😭 Just because the maps do not fit the old style does not indicate that Speed Run 4 is done for good. Rather, I actually like the new levels: instead of having a blocky style with lazily made assets for a game in 2024, it includes a lot of detail. Besides, the new players also love this change!
Classic version is a WAYYY earlier version of SR4, with more simplified obbies and slightly more clunky physics (if you play the normal one and then go back it feels choppy). If they had a happy medium where it was the modern courses from a few years ago with that UI uploaded, there would be less complaints.
the new levels look amazing, while the old ones are familiar, there isn't much special about them tbh lol, and they're fairly bland or downright ugly as hell. so not much lost there. the main issue is that egg bullshit
I first played in 2016 and seeing this just makes me sad. I’m not a simulator hater or lover as the only one I like (Bubble Gum Simulator btw it’s getting a sequel in 2 months) but it does not suit this game well at all. I really hope this update is removed

I played SR4 for the first time in 2017 and left the game once I finished it. I occasionally played a little when I was bored but decided to replay the game again once they added new levels. The pet system is weird, idk why they would add pets to speed run 4 other than for making money

Man new speed run 4 sucks, 2019-2023 was a bit meh but 2014-2015 and 2016-2018 was just perfect

I don't feel like the game lost his core mechanic as while you don't put a lot of attention on the rest of things they've added over time. The only things that bother me is the that big npc at the start of every level that could obstruct your vision and the fact they forced new levels on the "classic" dimension or mode that's something that feels really off, if vurse you putted those levels on a new dimension i won't be caring about these.
Someone,please get the version before the update and upload for archive purposes! (If...theres any afterall)

Just because the maps do not fit the old style does not indicate that Speed Run 4 is done for good. Rather, I actually like the new levels: instead of having a blocky style with lazily made assets for a game in 2024, it includes a lot of detail. Besides, the new players also love this change!
i said that they don't fit the "classic" meta, they aren't classic. i love the designs!

Classic version is a WAYYY earlier version of SR4, with more simplified obbies and slightly more clunky physics (if you play the normal one and then go back it feels choppy). If they had a happy medium where it was the modern courses from a few years ago with that UI uploaded, there would be less complaints.

the new levels look amazing, while the old ones are familiar, there isn't much special about them tbh lol, and they're fairly bland or downright ugly as hell. so not much lost there. the main issue is that egg bullshit

Played Speedrun 4 yesterday and I was so disappointed
I first played in 2016 and seeing this just makes me sad. I’m not a simulator hater or lover as the only one I like (Bubble Gum Simulator btw it’s getting a sequel in 2 months) but it does not suit this game well at all. I really hope this update is removed
