3 Fast Freight Trains, Norfolk Southern Rathole Line, Tennessee Trains Near Chattanooga Tennessee!

- 3 heavy fast freight trains converge at the historic train station in Spring City, Tennessee at about the same time. Norfolk Southern operates this old Southern Railway route known as the Rathole Line. 2 auto rack trains passed first while a mixed freight waited. Once the signals changed to approach, the mixed freight headed north toward Cincinnati in the direction I was going so I was able to pace them for a short distance for an awesome video. I like Norfolk Southern's 🎷
Thanks again!!!!!
jaw tooth back in the 1980`s I lived in Jefferson City TN. and worked for TVA and I`ve been all over that State I have Family that lives mostly in East Tennessee. boy, it can get hot in the summer!
great video
On the first train, those different looking racks, at 2:37 are Greenbrier AutoMax cars and they are only for Honda. They are a purpose-built auto racks and not a superstructure built on a flat car.
Thanks for this look at the famous 'Rathole' Line. I understood that it had been a Southern Railway Line, but one of the commenters suggested that it was owned by the City of Cincinnati. Perhaps on longterm lease to Southern, now Norfolk Southern.
Yes, Cincinnati still owns the line and they lease it to Norfolk Southern.

Very nice !!!
Love this line, saw 4 trains in 1 hour at Burnside KY on this same line
Spring city , site of the school bus being hit by a train in the 50’s. There is a monument right there and a highway bridge over the tracks was built so a tragedy like that would never be repeated
Nice "Rat Hole" train action, Live, Wheeeeeu !!!!!
Great catch Brian!
Your filming shows that town this is very clean!
Thank you!
Next time, drive a little bit north to the little town of Wartburg. Drive west down the curvy road to the tracks along the Emory River. No chain link fences, no grade crossings or autos, no piles of ballast to ruin the shot. A little piece of heaven down there.
Sweet action, Brian. Keep up the awesome adventures, man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awsome
Awesome live action as always my friend!
Nice Location and some fast action! Thanks Brian
Awesome and great shots 💖
Great location!
I think so too! I want to return
Awesome stuff
Etowah, Tn may be a good place to go. I live in Chattanooga and have been out there a couple times to play music.
Awesome video!!
Nice video and catches!
I go there almost every week
Heh. Hate to admit this, but the first time I saw this type of auto rack, I thought it was some type of bizarro double-decker cattle car!
Chris Hauser That is interesting. The Kansas City Southern rail car, white in color looked to me that it had windows top, middle and bottom. I dont think it was a auto rack. But wxho knows😯
1st horn was one usually found on NS and small railroads. 2nd horn was usually found on amtrak. 3rd horn was usually found on union pacific and BNSF. have you ever thought about road trips?
Bonjour Jaw trés grande longueur pour le transport de voitures sur rail !! Le Tennessee le pays de Jack Daniel's depuis 1957 à Lynchburg Brown Forman corporation mais fondée en 1866 par Jack Daniel's à bientot .
😎 like how you show the surroundings in your videos and not just the trains. Gives us MRR’s modeling ideas. I’ve gotten a few ideas from them. Love your videos. Don’t always comment but I watch. That 2nd auto rack train must have been empty. Seemed like a lot of tonnage for one prime mover. Anthony
Thanks Anthony! I appreciate it
Your video.....
is very nice ✿
excellent video 👍
Good video
Awesome Video 🇮🇳
Damn, 99 Auto racks in first Train yes I counted them. 8,820 feet plus Loco's
Check out where the Rathole crosses the Tennessee.
👍
Jawtooth this is one of your first videos that caught my eye. Inspired me. Its cool going to film there knowing you have been there. Keep the videos coming.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@JawTooth as soon as I'm home today I'll be watching your new video.
no dpu ? JT another fine job.
Long trail freight cars vehicles fast on the track beat deadline American move forward better job jaw tooth across untied states
That’s one of my sleeping spots if I’m caught in a bind on my hours of service. I usually take US-27 north going home on Friday morning, just so I can watch trains when I get a chance.
More inside and outside of your area depots please. Depot architecture please.
Honestly where I live in Tenessee, I’m lucky to see a single train in a month. My parents of course never stop even if there is one nearby. When I’m older ima move. It really sucks not being able to do what you love. Great videos though!
I know what you mean. When I got my drivers license I drove to the railroad tracks almost every day
@@JawTooth I get my license soon 😊
@@fluffnose3386 Awesome! You will love it. Just be careful and get a safe vehicle
@@JawTooth I will! I believe I will have a Honda Pilot.
I spent many summers in that area when I was growing up. That is a very nice town. Those trains look like they slowed down from what I remember. A car one year was hit about 7 miles south. It took that train a very long time to stop. I hope you went to Watts Bar Lake. I caught lots of fish out of that lake.
Nice cool town
Awesome! I’ll be in Midway for the 2716 move, I’m excited to get some good shots!
That's my plan also. It should be a popular chase.
Very nice video, you should do more videos like this one
I love your Videos and keep them coming. I would like to see more TANK CARS with a PLACARD as I am a Collector of NUMBERS ON THEM TO SEE WHAT THEY CONTAIN. KEEP UP THE GREAT VIDEOS.
Are you talking to me or did you mean to reply to someone else
Hey Jaw tooth those auto racks remind me of my mom's line. Used to see them alot in the 80 s. Now it's mostly container trains and mixed freights. Have a great railroad day
That crossing was late down for the mixed freight Brian -you would be nervous crossing if you spied that late on !! Yet another Jawtooth special edition -plenty of trains in nice surroundings -with lots of crystal clear details for those interested ! Those Southern guys certainly like their horns !!! Well in for catching this one Jawtooth !
Regards .
👍👍👍👍Great 📹📹📹video jaw tooth think you for 🎞️🎞️🎞️🎞️filming it for us I love hearing those 📯📯📯📯📯horns
Great shots. Excellent video Brian.
Dern ya "B", another 30 miles north of there on 27 and you be looking at MY place in the hills. You want to get a train go up to US70 outside of Rockwood and get one coming down Rockwood MT, the "S"'s will drive ya nuts.

Damn Jaw Tooth, your getting real good at catching nice train video for us out here in you tube world.Thank you great work
Them drivers sure love tooting their horns. 🚅🔊
John Thimakis There’s so many grade crossings in that one little area, they’ll just lay it on it.
Nicely done with the NS catches jawtooth that single v train seemed under power to me but still great catches
I really like the video of them going away from you very cool shot always enjoy thank you for sharing :-) peace
Great catches!!!! Looks like a busy rail line!!!!💙
Apparently, more than 50 trains per day, if you can believe what Wikipedia has to say. ----> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cincinnati,_New_Orleans_and_Texas_Pacific_Railway
@@stanpatterson5033 wow thats alot of trains in a day!!!!!😁
I wonder if those auto rail cars have Nissans in them? I've heard Nissan has an assembly facility in Tennessee.
Yes sir in Smyrna Tennessee. I have delivered freight at the plant
about a hundred times. It's a HUGE
assembly plant with a very, very large area for assembled cars to
stage before being loaded onto
auto racks or car haulers. It covers
about a mile area in Smyrna.
A little trivia about the CNO&TP a few miles up the road just south of Oneida TN is a location known by the locals as "Highpoint" (or Pemberton by the railroad) . At 1519 feet above sea level it's the highest place above sea level on the Rathole .
At adverage how miny train cars per Engine?
A
but wait theres more
Or in the case of my ex-wife.... Butt weight, there's more !
 just for location LOL
That 2 train had a lot of cars for one locomotive
61 I tink...
Were those southbound racks loaded?
I don't know. I don't remember
hay jaw tooth if you are close to greenvill there is some great spots on the ns line there
A fun fact. The city of Cincinnati, Ohio owns the rail line.
A few years back they had actually considered selling it when they needed money. They realized that was a bad idea and decided to keep it.
Do you know what kind of cars they’re hauling in the racks?
no
I've just started noticing the cross at the end of your video's. Are you saved by any chance?
Yes
@@JawTooth Amen Brother
How fast do they go
Live Action, And make sure to film trains in Brentwood TN.
Was that line part of the L&N
