  • It can be really scary the first time your dog has a seizure in front of you. I will be explaining what to do for your dog during the event and how to spot one coming on, and what to expect afterwards. I will talk about when medical care is needed and what they might do at the veterinary office to help diagnose and treat your pets condition. I will teach you what we in the veterinary office wish you all knew!
    ***Use this information, as a form of EDUCATION. I am NOT a supplement for good Veterinary care.
    I hope I have educated you on the stages of seizures and what to do if they won’t stop or are having many a day. If you have any questions, please leave them below.
    Please remember I'm here for YOU, you are here for your Pet!

    Excellent video, Jill. It's pretty scary watching one of your fur babies have a seizure. Especially when you don't know why. If it's scary for you, it is definitely scary for them as well. Good tips and great advice! Thanks.

      @@askavettech2057 Thank you, how nice and sweet and thoughtful of you to reply… And just FYI: I did see the vet yesterday and then in the later evening, she’s having convulsions/seizers and now that it’s morning I’m going to the vet but she seems basically fine right now and it snowed last night so I’m leaving out about 10 or 11 AM to give the snow and ice time to melt, should be 47° today…

      @@askavettech2057 She’s basically had five seizures in a 36 hour period if she has another one right now this would extend it out to 48 hours, she had a Cesar at 1:30 AM last night also… But they don’t last too long, so I hope she will be OK, getting some kind of medication or something today…

      @@askavettech2057 We love Michiganders, I want a beach house on the great lakes or UP, but with all due respect, you would not find me there in the brutal winters. Originally from NC, lived in Dallas Fort Worth metroplex area for 14 years, love Missouri, it’s just the right spot for all season weather and no bears, pretty safe walks, I’m way out in middle of nowhere on 25 acres next to a conservation area, we didn’t get hit too hard, but exceptionally cold coming Friday and beyond with some negative numbers, but that’s rare, going to Texas on Thursday to get away from it for a week or so…

    My dog had a seizure 3 weeks ago. The doctors did the blood work and it came normal.
    I want to know that is there something that triggers the seizures and also what are the chances of another episode.

    • @askavettech2057
      @askavettech2057  27 днів тому

      First, I am sorry you are going through this with your dog. Second, seizures can come on from many different things, and some are unknown reasons. Low blood sugar could cause them, brain trauma, or tumors in the brain or along the spinal column could also cause them. Illness that causes a high temperature can also cause them. The chances of seizures coming back is on a case by case answer. Meaning every dog is different, and every reason of them having them is different as well, making it a difficult answer. I would continue to track any seizure activities and if they last more than 5 mins, you must seek out medical help to get it to stop. I hope that helped and I will pray for you and your dog.

      Yes that is pretty normal- they don't really know why they feel weird- and it can take a few hours before they start to feel normal again.

    my dog just had her first seizure. it only lasted about a minute and is acting normal now but it scared me so much i still want to cry.
    she was behind me when i felt her bumping into my chair. I look back, thinking she is just scratching herself, and see her convulsing. I get up immediately and basically throw the 60lb chair across the room to clear some space and just sit with her until it was over. i think she knows how scared i was because she keeps coming over to give me love.
    her name is luna and she is a cattledog mix she is about 8. i have had her since birth (we owned her mom)

      Ohhhh Jacob, I am so sorry that you had to go through that. Just know she probably didn't know what happend... They lose all track of time and moments during them...She can feel your stressed. Try to think of the postives..that she came out of it. Make sure you write it down, to track time and date. Hope your baby is ok! If you are still worried make sire you call the vet, have them run some blood work. 8 years old is considered a senior pet, because they age so much faster than we do. Hugs, for this stressful time.

    My puppy is only two months 1/2 he had a seizure we took him to the animal hospital they told me he was healthy they don’t know why that happen but on Wednesday he had a other didn’t last a long time I been trying to feed him and give him water but he has no energy only sleeping all breathing heavy

    • @askavettech2057
      @askavettech2057  6 місяців тому

      Personal opinion: Try a different vet. Some puppy's can have seizures if their blood glucose gets too low, But it's pretty uncommon. I feel some blood work is in order and a doctor to look into it a little better. Most seizures are idiopathic Meaning we don't know why, but a pup that young it might have been trauma from when it was tiny (mom stepped on it)? I will pray for your little one. Something is not right if it's not wanting to eat or drink much. Try taking some honey and rubbing it on its gum tissue, if it perks up it could be a blood sugar issue. either way you need to try to get liquids down. Licking Ice cubes, low sodium chicken broth...if it goes more than 24hrs not eating and drinking it should go to am emergency vet, for IV fluids.

      Epilepsy is a really hard thing to have to go through, and I am sorry you and your family are suffering with her. The medication that they give for seizures slows everything down in the brain to help prevent more from happening. This can cause general body weakness, and it definitely presents it self in making the pet wobbly. It is really hard to know why pets have seizures, and in your case why she's not walking again yet. It could be damage to the brain in the area where walking is communicated. Try to be patient, as she heals. If seizure medication was prescribed it can take up to 2 weeks before it is at full strength in the body tissues. Did the doctor give medication for the high sugar or seizures?

    Watch $AQST stock as FDA decision on April 28th could make Libervant a game-changer, potentially replacing EpiPens with their effective, easy-to-use sublingual film which is like a listerine strip. Could be a great video idea because it’s going to change the medical field and many animals and people’s lives.

      We don't usually use Epi pens in dogs and cats because they are not all the same size, thank you for the information though.

      it usually takes a bit of time (2 weeks) for the medication to build up to a constant level in the dogs blood. The medication usually stops the seizures, but sometimes between now and the 2week-ish mark they can have break through seizures, Have you mother put the dog in a small area, laundry room, bathroom some place small, and make it dark if she can. He is more than likely just uneasy. If he is in a small area she will be able to hear if he does have another seizure and he will be semi contained. Put soft blankets in there as well, food/ water everything he will need. He will still need to be taken out to potty, but for the rest of today..... and also if you can instruct your mother to not fuss over him...he already feels weird and will pick up on her behaviors.

      @@askavettech2057 Thank you so much for the help . He hasn’t been out in dark or in a small contained area it’s just even he stands up he is leaning on his head or may be trying to just protect his head . I know it’s weird that’s probably made me more terrified m, he’s a bit wobbly maybe due to medications. I just he’ll be better in sometime
