If you were a basketball fan in Europe during the late 80's you'd to love or hate Galis. Amazing player, tremendous scorer... We suffered him along with the Aris and its crazy supporters so many times in Spain, the legendary matches against Barcelona made me an unconditional fan of basketball. Much respect from Spain.
Thank you dear friend, Indeed legendary matches these were. I remember many Spanish players from that era, like San Epifanio. And much respect to probably the biggest basketball powerhouse of Europe, that is Spain and all its great players and fans. Galis was a legend for us. People here sometimes called him the God. He inspired so much respect to the level of fear sometimes. And as you can see as a character he was a diamond too.

and actually galis had offers from 2 nba teams but he rejected them cuz some things were going on with fiba and he wouldn't be able to participate in the national team....and the moments he gave to the national team were worth it(1st scorrer of all history of eurobasket).

Nick's style of basketball since it was so unique and deceiving and coming from the sport of boxing can be described as Muhammad Ali with a basketball. Quick, elusive, counter puncher that would put you to sleep until you made a fatal mistake of trying to steal the ball, he would go around you and the other 4 defensive players. 99% of his shots were open layups and short 5 foot jump shots not because he was opened but because he just faked 2-3 players to get an open shot. Truly Godly powers cause his decision making always seemed to be the perfect one for shooting and passing, extremely high IQ, the best part of his game was how humble and nice he was. You my friend are so on point. Galis game in one word was UNIQUE. I watch basketball both NBA and European for so many years but nobody played like him. Nobody. It is as simple as that. There was never a player who was only 1,83 (!!!) and finished his CARREER with +30ppg and +60% FG. Even at 37 years old he still was at the 60% FG zone. Galis is often mistaken as a volume scorer when in reality he was the most efficient scorer. At that era most guards in Europe where pure perimeter shooters who were assisted by others. Galis on the other hand was playing ALL THE FUCKING TIME 1vs1 that most of the times ended as 1vs2 and in some cases 1vs ....all. So to put it into pespective Galis had that crazy statline with that FG% while his shots were in the majority UN-assisted. How he was doing something like that??? Well my friend you described it very very well. It was a mix of IQ, ahtleticism, basketball skills and of course the lack of fear. Galis was a robot on court. Never afraid to take the game against the monsters in the opponent rim. Nothing intimitaded him.

Τα λόγια είναι περιττά για τον μεγαλύτερο Έλληνα αθλητή όλων των εποχών. Πλέον βρίσκεται και επισήμως στο πάνθεον του παγκόσμιου μπάσκετ μαζί με τους υπόλοιπους θρύλους. Ο άνθρωπος που έφερε το μπάσκετ στην Ελλάδα και έκανε τους πάντες να ασχοληθούν με αυτό το άθλημα. Και η μικρή σε έκταση και πληθυσμό Ελλάδα εξελίχθηκε σε παγκόσμια δύναμη του αθλήματος. Well put. Some can talk about some Olympic athletes, and that Nick was part of a team, but everybody that has followed Greek sports for decades knows and feels that Nick is on another level of legend. In Ancient Greece he'd be seen as a demi-god!
One the greatest players to never play in the NBA giving one of the most inspirational speeches in Hall of Fame History. The part where he says "The greatest gift an athlete can offer to society" evoked such emotion that even those who never heard of him in the auditorium clap in a show of indelible respect. Thank you for your wonderful camp in Thessaloniki Mr Galis. I was there in 1995 improving myself as a 15 year old from Europe dreaming of playing in the NBA. It was an honour to shake your hand having played in the all star game. So many happy memories with everyone there. Peace

@@TheGfdsahjk Yeap m8 he was extremely fast he had an accurate jump shoot extremely high IQ extremely stamina extremely speed basically all of him were extremely lollll.I feel blessed to see him live as an ARIS fan were he played for all his career mostly.Truly amazing player.
Playing against Gallis at Panat was a nightmare. When he went for shots we knew that it was going in. Impossible to guard. Gallis would of been one of the greats at NBA. True legend of the sport.

Being greek and being a 12yo kid in 87, Galis is part of my childhood. This just brought tears to my eyes, tears of happiness and admiration for a childhood hero of mine. There are no words to describe the effect Nick Galis had on greek youth in the mid to late 80s in Greece. Soccer was already really big in Greece and by winning the European basketball championship, basketball overshadowed soccer. Galis blew some NBA air into the lungs of greek basketball! His is and will be loved forever by ANY GREEK of his era!

Siempre recordaremos a Gallis y a todos sus compañeros de aquella selección mítica: Giannakis, Fassoulas, Christodoulou, etc. Siempre recordaremos aquella final del 87 frente a la URSS y a Gallis levantando el puño después de cada canasta mientras el estadio se venía abajo, literalmente!. Abrieron camino a los que vinieron después: los Alvertis, Papaloukas, Spanoulis, Diamantidis, y a los actuales Anteto, Calathes, etc. Bien merecido homenaje para uno de los mejores escoltas de todos los tiempos del baloncesto FIBA, el nuestro. The gratitude of the woman having her son saved from addiction is all that matters. I’m sure he is not the only soul saved by this charismatic man. Nikos Galis became an “addiction” for a whole country. At six feet tall, a David of professional basketball, Galis gave hope to to all the Greeks around the world. We were there, at the European Championships, the Euroleague, Greece was there. And it was thanks to him.

Galis is a true legend! The reason we loved and played basketball! An impossible to defend offensive player with killer instinct! An example as a balanced personality on and off the court! That is why in a country with people being of the toughest critics that exist, like Greece is, he is probably the only person who is so much appreciated, loved, and respected in such an extent and such a percentage (almost 100% of Greeks love everything about this man)! We love you Nick, not only because you brought us many wins and tought us how to do it, but mostly because of who you are, a rare combination of unbelievable toughness and professionalism, excellence in what you did and humbleness! From the time distance, I celebrated the sound foundation of Nick's game: smooth footwork, crafted use of the body, and especially lots of BANKSHOTs ❗ Thank you, Nick Galis, for your dedication to the 🏀🗑 👍 HOF Committee did a great job by selecting & enshrining you into the honorable Basketball HOF 👏 😮
Μεγάλε Nick!!! Εκεί ανήκεις, μέσα στο πάνθεον των θρύλων όπου πλέον θα περάσεις στην ιστορία με χρυσά γράμματα επειδή δεν ήσουν μόνο τεράστιος αθλητής αλλά έφερες μαζί σου τη φιλοσοφία και τη νοοτροπία της καλαθοσφαίρισης στην Ελλάδα. Για όσους προσπαθούν να τον συγκρίνουν, απλά δεν υπάρχει μέτρο σύγκρισης, για τον λόγο ότι αυτός ο συγκεκριμένος άνθρωπος έφερε μαζί του τη σφραγίδα της φιλοσοφίας του συγκεκριμένου αθλήματος και κατ' επέκταση του αθλητισμού. Ελπίζω κάποιοι άνθρωποι να το καταλάβουν και να σταματήσει αυτή η συζήτηση περί σύγκρισης, κάτι το οποίο είναι εντελώς ανούσιο. Many thanks to Nick Galis, an ace of aces, not only a true legend but also a true master among all these giants and titans of NBA and the world basketball. He is like all these great legends and masters a great man not only by playing basketball but also with his and their whole professional and life attitude. Watching in this ceremony video Nick and legends like Larry Bird, Bob Macadoo, Michael Jordan among all other legends, reminds the school years where one of the best things after studying was the watching of basketball games in tv with all these great players of greek teamclubs and NBA, and whenever was possible having fun and joy by playing basketball. If you were a basketball fan in Europe during the late 80's you'd to love or hate Galis. Amazing player, tremendous scorer... We suffered him along with the Aris and its crazy supporters so many times in Spain, the legendary matches against Barcelona made me an unconditional fan of basketball. Much respect from Spain.
Thank you dear friend, Indeed legendary matches these were. I remember many Spanish players from that era, like San Epifanio. And much respect to probably the biggest basketball powerhouse of Europe, that is Spain and all its great players and fans. Galis was a legend for us. People here sometimes called him the God. He inspired so much respect to the level of fear sometimes. And as you can see as a character he was a diamond too.

Nick's style of basketball since it was so unique and deceiving and coming from the sport of boxing can be described as Muhammad Ali with a basketball. Quick, elusive, counter puncher that would put you to sleep until you made a fatal mistake of trying to steal the ball, he would go around you and the other 4 defensive players. 99% of his shots were open layups and short 5 foot jump shots not because he was opened but because he just faked 2-3 players to get an open shot. Truly Godly powers cause his decision making always seemed to be the perfect one for shooting and passing, extremely high IQ, the best part of his game was how humble and nice he was. Proud to have known him in Union Hill High School, God Bless you Nick Galis.

You my friend are so on point. Galis game in one word was UNIQUE. I watch basketball both NBA and European for so many years but nobody played like him. Nobody. It is as simple as that. There was never a player who was only 1,83 (!!!) and finished his CARREER with +30ppg and +60% FG. Even at 37 years old he still was at the 60% FG zone. Galis is often mistaken as a volume scorer when in reality he was the most efficient scorer. At that era most guards in Europe where pure perimeter shooters who were assisted by others. Galis on the other hand was playing ALL THE FUCKING TIME 1vs1 that most of the times ended as 1vs2 and in some cases 1vs ....all. So to put it into pespective Galis had that crazy statline with that FG% while his shots were in the majority UN-assisted. How he was doing something like that??? Well my friend you described it very very well. It was a mix of IQ, ahtleticism, basketball skills and of course the lack of fear. Galis was a robot on court. Never afraid to take the game against the monsters in the opponent rim. Nothing intimitaded him.

Playing against Gallis at Panat was a nightmare. When he went for shots we knew that it was going in. Impossible to guard. Gallis would of been one of the greats at NBA. True legend of the sport.

Being greek and being a 12yo kid in 87, Galis is part of my childhood. This just brought tears to my eyes, tears of happiness and admiration for a childhood hero of mine. There are no words to describe the effect Nick Galis had on greek youth in the mid to late 80s in Greece. Soccer was already really big in Greece and by winning the European basketball championship, basketball overshadowed soccer. Galis blew some NBA air into the lungs of greek basketball! His is and will be loved forever by ANY GREEK of his era!

Nikos Galis became an “addiction” for a whole country. At six feet tall, a David of professional basketball, Galis gave hope to to all the Greeks around the world. We were there, at the European Championships, the Euroleague, Greece was there. And it was thanks to him.

Galis is a true legend! The reason we loved and played basketball! An impossible to defend offensive player with killer instinct! An example as a balanced personality on and off the court! That is why in a country with people being of the toughest critics that exist, like Greece is, he is probably the only person who is so much appreciated, loved, and respected in such an extent and such a percentage (almost 100% of Greeks love everything about this man)! Εκεί ανήκεις, μέσα στο πάνθεον των θρύλων όπου πλέον θα περάσεις στην ιστορία με χρυσά γράμματα επειδή δεν ήσουν μόνο τεράστιος αθλητής αλλά έφερες μαζί σου τη φιλοσοφία και τη νοοτροπία της καλαθοσφαίρισης στην Ελλάδα. Για όσους προσπαθούν να τον συγκρίνουν, απλά δεν υπάρχει μέτρο σύγκρισης, για τον λόγο ότι αυτός ο συγκεκριμένος άνθρωπος έφερε μαζί του τη σφραγίδα της φιλοσοφίας του συγκεκριμένου αθλήματος και κατ' επέκταση του αθλητισμού. Ελπίζω κάποιοι άνθρωποι να το καταλάβουν και να σταματήσει αυτή η συζήτηση περί σύγκρισης, κάτι το οποίο είναι εντελώς ανούσιο. Το όνομα Νίκος Γκάλης, έχει πιο βαθιά έννοια και πλέον ανήκει, εκεί που πρέπει να ανήκει.

Many thanks to Nick Galis, an ace of aces, not only a true legend but also a true master among all these giants and titans of NBA and the world basketball. He is like all these great legends and masters a great man not only by playing basketball but also with his and their whole professional and life attitude. Watching in this ceremony video Nick and legends like Larry Bird, Bob Macadoo, Michael Jordan among all other legends, reminds the school years where one of the best things after studying was the watching of basketball games in tv with all these great players of greek teamclubs and NBA, and whenever was possible having fun and joy by playing basketball. I think that there are no more words, no more comments.- [as we say in Greece, dot(.) and dash(-)]
