One thing I noticed is that when comparing the shots at 0:44-0:45 and 5:22, the reconnecting (mentioned at 5:09) may be literal [in-game, maybe this means after beating each island's boss, the title screen may get updated and/or we can easily access these islands by having them come along with us]
That’s exactly how it works. You have to connect them all back together and reunite them into one continent again. Except this time it will be moving all around I guess, since it’s connected to shipshape Island? Lol.
I’m glad this game has truly original NPCs to match the theme. I find it more memorable than how most Paper Mario games (except Super Paper Mario) use Toads and enemies for NPCs.
It was genuinely fresh in the first one because something like towns of friendly goombas and koopas had never really been seen before. The closest was Monstro Town but that was only one town late in the game and was mostly original monsters. Actually, a lot of now standard things originated from PM64. Toad Town, Bowell's Moving Castle, field abilities in the RPGs, basically ALL of TTYD's mechanics, the term Action Commands (SMRPG had them but called them Timed Hits and the remake even changed them to ACs) and more. t. Paper Mario fan who thinks the original is underappreciated
Bomb Derby makes a return! Didn't see that coming! I wonder if there are any others coming back. Or if Bomb Derby is seen as a main stay of sorts, now that it's been in 3 consecutive games.
Choc, the Bros. Ball appeared in Partners in Time and Dream Team and the Fire&Ice Flowers are original but remisencent of the Hand powers in Superstar Saga. Makes me really hope they also get incorporated into battles instead of just a field ability but we'll see.
@@Neonclown_7 Uh, well, SPOILERS EVERYONE: One of the ultimate Bros Attacks in this game is using a ton of fire and ice balls to form an attack very similar to the Luiginary Cyclone

This game technically can be two player, you just need a second controller, or you can hold each switch controller sideways with one person pressing a for mario on their controller and the other player pressing b for luigi on their controller
Although I’m extremely excited for the game, the only thing I feel may be “missing” is a large mechanic that changes the gameplay of the game. How partners in time had the 2 baby bros, inside story had bowser, dream team had dream Luigi, and paper jam had paper Mario. This game doesn’t really have an overarching mechanic that we’ve seen. I was hoping we’d see power/electricity be used for attacks or some ability but that hasn’t been seen. Let me know what you guys think.
Idk the earlier Mario Luigi games didn't seem to have a "big" ability just multiple smaller abilities that you used this seems to be following that which I appreciate
With how many things they have to get right as an entirely new studio developing this game, I think that just delivering a fully competent reboot of the series will be good enough. if this really nail this game, I think those kinds of gimmicks could definitely proceed. the way people online discuss these games, a lot of people have either not played since SS, DT, or PJ, if at all, so this is effectively a new point into the series for a lot of people. if this studio can show that they can develop this series well, it'll provide them enough 'goodwill' and, more importantly in light of AD's bankruptcy, a solid foundation of skills, assets and ideas to iterate and carefully, slowly introduce new gimmicks. It may be disappointing to realize that this kinda may be "just" another M&L game, but when I remember everything that has to align for this series with this studio to make this game good at all, I realize how incredible that task actually is in the first place. However, you might also see this game's gimmick as refining PJ's already amazing combat system using tweaks from previous games, i.e. whatever the Plugs are based on, whether it be standalone badges from SS/PJ, synergistic badges from BIS/DT, the card system from PJ, etc.
The roll into a ball is an older one. As is their hammery bombs towards the foe, though they altered the end so that the big bomb explodes into a cluster of bombs.
Partners in Time was one of my favorite games of all time. Paper Jam was a handholding nightmare of dialogue that dragged on without substance or interest (lots of games around this time on Nintendo actually had thos issue i.e. Pokemon Sun and Moon). I really am so excited for this game and hope it brings the series back go glory. It was so enjoyable and super challenging while also being beatable.
Paper Jam, while lacking in terms of story and overworld gameplay, had some amazing combat. The way Paper Mario plays is awesome, and the card system is pretty neat even if I prefer the badges.
@@prof.laytonfan764 Can second this. I'm playing through PJ right now and it's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Story was definitely lacking, but 'no substance or interest' is not giving credit where it's due. Speaking of challenging too, I'm getting my ass kicked trying to balance expert challenges, S ranks in the Lakitu challenge area, and just dealing with the overall harder tells and more varied card system, so that's definitely not entirely true either.
Having the game that's fully about the teamwork between Mario and Luigi NOT be have co-op is an enormous missed opportunity. Still a good game, but why....
Some people have modded this in and it's a total shitshow every time, with every player, between every game. they'd have to plan literally everything just around also implementing co-op (bros attacks, field moves, field attacks, down to the entire level design), and historically that's always cut MASSIVELY into games that want to have a 2-player singleplayer experience to also function with co-op (NSMB Wii/U, RE5, etc.). Not to mention, certain people always complain that the movement, bros attacks and even the framerate have slowed down since SS/DT, so having to plan for co-op would likely require slowing actions down even more. I don't entirely agree with this criticism but it's easy to see the difference in speed between the blazing fast Chopper Bros of SS vs. something like Trio Whirligig in PJ, and the framerate drop to 30 in the SS/BIS remakes.
@@neo7655 they said in the trailer that you have a button that separates luigi, allowing him to do context-sensitive actions. I believe he glows yellow and has a textbox pop up near him when this is available. also, co-op is something that would be heavily promoted, or at the very least mentioned for a few seconds, since it's never been a feature, and like I said in the other comment, it would either drastically change every part of the game (RE5, NSMB Wii, NSMB U) or be very simple for 'little brother controls' (Odyssey, Galaxy 1/2, 3D World Wii U gamepad blocks, etc.).
