She's asking for Viserys' books specifically so I took it as she was looking for evidence of the Song of Ice and Fire prophecy.
Rhaenys could not leave because she would be leaving Rhaenyra 's supporters behind to fight on their own. The Greens army was still advancing and the battle was not finished. Rheanyra's allies assume they will not have to face the Greens large army and dragons on their own - they expect Rhaenyra's dragon riders will be there to fight with them. If word got out that they leave during battles, Rhaenyra's allies could switch their support to the Greens.
Really good point!
i feel like he basically did but shes women so🤷♀️
That plus she likely knew there was no escaping Vhaghar so she decided to do the most damage she possibly could. The Queen that Never Was and Meyeles fought valiantly.
I love that you guys are show cannon and not “buT ThE BoOk sAys”
I read them too but I love the show!!
Hell yeah thanks for being here!
Alicent misunderstanding Viserys’ last words didn’t cause the Dance, Otto Hightower wanting his grandson to be King is what caused the Dance. I think her conversation with Larys is her admitting that to herself. It’s beyond “too late” it was inevitable
Well she caused the dance as a tool of Otto then haha
@@OystersClamsCockles Agreed. Alicent is a tool :- )
So upset I was at work when this released!! This is my fav GoT/HOTD channel!! Seven blessings to you both!!
What I love about your show as someone who’s read the books is seeing how this hits someone who doesn’t know what’s going to happen.
Also, seeing more of the magical/fantasy elements being shown in this series is so fun to see
Thanks for watching!
Vhagar: *arrives*
Rhaenys (easily able to get away on the fastest dragon alive):
“F it.. we ball” 😤
I think Otto’s slow burn and allowing the houses to naturally come to their side makes more sense than killing, and forcing everyone to bend the knee to some who believe him to be a usurper. Doesn’t bode well for either Criston, or Ameond.
Sunfyre should’ve made Aegon take a breathalyzer before hoping on smh
The drunk people are typically the survivors....... :/
Aemond was definitely pulling out his sword to try and finish the job on Aegon before Criston showed up.
Watch it again. He walks up with his sword drawn THEN sheathes it when he sees Aegon is down.
@@OystersClamsCockles"I don't have to... he's already practically dead."
I think the history Alicent is looking for isn’t to justify her actions or find a similar situation but to seek out a mention or description of the Conquerors Dream
Good point. Looking for some kind of further explanation about what Rhaenyra brought up.
I’m thinking she’s looking for something about ageons dream.
Two things to add to your points on the battle:
1. Eve Best’s performance was great and made the whole thing 10x more heartbreaking.
2. Before Vhagar bonded with Laena, both Vhagar and Meleys were bonded with Viiserys and Daemons parents Barlow and Alyssa.
MAAAN the dragon history is crazy
I feel like this all could have been avoided if Viserys wrote his succession wishes down in a will 😂
But where's the fun in that?
This whole story is really just proving the importance of having a documented will
@@OystersClamsCocklesI mean, King Robert had that written and Cersei tore it up anyway
@@OystersClamsCocklesthat’s definitely the whole moral lesson of the show - never forget to write a will when you’re dying of leprosy!
@@lucblanchard4116True, I get Robert was dying and just wanted his bestie by his side, but keeping some witnesses in the room when he had Ned write his wishes would've been the smart thing to do....
great breakdown as always !
Two things I’m tracking
1) Daemon and his quest to be king
2) The way to takeout Vhagar, is by taking out Aemon
Didn’t even consider just getting to Aemond when he’s not with his dragon 😂 that’s gotta be it
Seems like they keep building up a match between Aemond and Daemon. Just hope its sooner but I think it'll be later. Cuz now we gotta watch Aemond as king at least for an episode or two.
Daemon wants the respect and power of a king, but he knows deep down he would hate it and would probably be terrible at it. Look at his "diplomacy".
It's the heart in conflict with itself. He loves Rhaenyra, but he hates that she represents his loss of the throne. But does he want the throne or does he just want to be listened to? He has a little more introspection than Aegon lol. His hallucinations clue us in that the steps to take the throne by force would make him hate himself.
Basically, Daemon doesn't know what he wants and he'll be a miserable old bastard until he figures that out.
@@jessjess23brooks89 Introspection is not Daemon's strong suit. But this broken down castle is making him do it. What if he has a mini epiphany at the end of his Harrenhall hell and some how becomes an asset? Stranger things have happened.
@@Stress-Free-K That's what I'm thinking. The book has him undergo a mysterious change at some point. This is a very interesting explanation. So he will either swing one way or the other by the end. Or maybe in a whole new direction? The books are so vague that they could make his motivations almost anything they wanted. All we know is that the Rogue Prince started acting a little less roguish and a little more princely. Well, princely for Daemon.
Episode was seriously amazing, However I really do wish the black council spent an extra minute or 2 strategizing over why Cole was attacking Rooks Rest in the middle of the day with Dragonstone & All the Greens enemies dragons so close… they should’ve came to the conclusion that it was some sorta trap being played for them!!! with such high stakes that are clear now the writers should have had them acknowledge that I think… bc imagine it wasn’t a trap? The greens would have just stupidly sacrificed the army that Cole had just gathered, including Cole the Kings Hand????
I think, that the minute they realized that a member of the Black's Small Council (Staunton) was going to be attacked, the old men on the Council went into immediate panic mode. It was actually a reasonable reponse on Rhaenyra's part to just send Rhaenys and Meleys, in my mind, because they didn't actually know that Aemond was there with Vhagar. They thought they were just going to fight Cole.
Meleys probably could've beaten Vhagar one on one, it was Aegon coming in on Sunfyre that changed everything, for better and worse.
@vtringale no way THIS Meleys could have beaten Vhaghar. Book Meleys had a shot tho
The dragons fighting man
I’m glad I’m not the only one lol… that sound Sunfyre made when Meleys ripped into him had me bawling 😭 (especially after that scene with Sunfyre nuzzling Aegon) & I don’t cry like that over tv shows like this. I even covered my eyes at one point, & I’m so desensitized to GoT violence atp. Regardless of how much I dislike Aegon, it was too much to hear his dragon’s cries. Somehow the pain of these fake Dragons got me so f*cked up.
We got no Meleys. Our dragon’s heads are falling off! Aegon sucking back on grandpa’s old cough medicine. I really believe this is the best episode of HOTD in a season and a half.
Pretty pretty pretty pretty good
I think the song of Ice and Fire worked perfectly because it showed that….they use to have all these dragons that could have fought the white walkers and this was the beginning of the end of their strength
Also think it helps that White Walkers are almost immortal and wait a couple hundred years to attack. Wish they got more characterization….
@@XaldinXdamn GRRM! Finish winds!
Even a hurricane can’t stop me from listening to this podcast. This is like chilling with the homies🤘🏽🤘🏽.
We appreciate you big dog. Hope you and yours are safe in the H.
The main thing I was thinking when she told Jace about asoiaf was that now he can connect the dots on wtf cregan stark was talking about when he went to the wall.
*cries in High Valyrian* 😢
Brutal
IF you watch the BTS there is a segment with Aemond's actor Ewan where he mysteriously says he wants it to be ambiguous whether his "Dracarys" to Vhagar was 2 birds with 1 stone. Aemond did his homework when he was a kid and is a vicious chessmaster. Short of abusing myself, I would want to stay on dude's good side because he is scary competent
I’m claiming the drinking and dragging joke lol. I said it soon as he took that drink before getting on the dragon
Rhaenys cant go back. Her mission is to defend the castle. Blacks are having trouble building a host. So if they abandon Rooks Rest, led by a lord who is on the Queens council. Nobody will join them. Ross is Rooks Rest!😂😂.
Alys fed Daemon weirwood paste. No doubt.
Man is high as a kite
@@OystersClamsCockles Indeed. It’s very reminiscent of Jaime’s weirwood dream in the main book series. Sleeping on weirwood and drinking weirwood paste- it’s a crash course in the 60s. 😝
She stays young by drinking adrenochrome
Barret with a smooth soccer analogy I see you m’lord barret
SPORTS!
Loved the pod!!
That Meleys shirt!
Goes hard, huh?
I be waiting on this podcast at work !!!love y’all content
Much appreciated! Thanks for supporting.
Ugh still devastated nearly 24 hours later
Stay strong. We’re all in this together.
@@OystersClamsCockles The whole internet is mourning. Gonna go find my Meleys the Red Queen shirt ♥♥
Matt Smith is like: “if the role doesn’t have me in conflict with my wife who is a Queen I don’t want it” 😅
He has a type.
@@OystersClamsCockles He really does lol Also, to the both of you, keep up the amazing work. I have the notifications on for your reviews on Monday. I did not know about the F1 podcast. I love F1 and I will be subscribing as well.
I think the valerian steel armor helped Aegon survive in some way
Ohhh that’s an interesting thought
That and we see Sunfyre managing to turn to land on his stomach just above the trees(which may have caused his wings to fold up and around his rider as they landed.). It at least puts survival within the realm of believability, lol
Very scared Ross was going to keep calling it Rook's Nest all episode, but glad he recovered
*Update late in the episode* Oh god he said it again!!!! let's see if this stumble is too much to get back on track
Rook's Nest is actually a bar inside Rook's Rest
@@OystersClamsCockles I'd slam some wine there
I choose to believe it was on purpose to gift us the chance for a drinking game
It’s laughable that you guys don’t like the house of black and white storyline yet the name of your podcast came from that storyline. 😂 Love the pod fellas keep on rolling
Hahaha very true
If I were Rheanyra I would wanna know what's this Song of Fire and Ice is all about. So I think that's what Larys picked up. Alicent sees Larys holding that book and reassures him she is not going soft of Targaryns just becuz they are greatest defense against the white walkers. Which Larys is prolly quite familiar with that tale.
And maybe that Maester with the Plan-Tea told Larys that Rhaenerya sounds like she might be wavering.
I don’t think Larys knows anything about the Song of Ice and Fire. Doubt he’s even heard about it. Seems a well kept Targaryen secret between ruler and heir. Daemon didn’t even know!
@@OystersClamsCockles I just want this secret to get out so that it causes more turmoil in Kingslanding. Larys would be excellent for that. And maybe he would decide to switch sides.
@@Stress-Free-K idk about Larys switching sides. His die is cast with the Greens for helping to bring Aegon to the thrown, and I think he'll be happy to live in the shadows if Aemond is in charge now. I also think that the show is setting up a Larys vs Myseria match-up for who is the better Master of Whispers.
The way that they are pushing the “King Aegon did this” narrative about killing Rhaenys/Meyles really makes you wonder if what Joffrey says about this storyline in GoT was actually true. I’ve been hoping this whole series that the “history” they learn in the original series wasn’t actually accurate. This makes me think that may be the case
Hooooly shit yeah that's way way way more up in the air now considering all we've seen...
But I thought this is what happens to Aegon in the book?
@@Neddoestit is, but also what Joffrey says in GoT might not necessarily be true as well.
The way I look at it is Fire and Blood is written as a history book, but written by the Maesters with input from Mushroom regarding his rumors. So we have to remember history is written by the winners. There's not a lot of room for the human element, misunderstandings, or nuance. George has said that the show is portraying more of what has really happened.
There was an eye witness to joffreys account that was on Rhaenyras side so it definitely happened. George recently said that the show & book are 2 different canons which makes sense because the show has removed too many key characters & changed the fate of others for it to be THE canon material
She’s searching the books for signs of the dream/prophecy
You are correct
Criston Cole is once again THE MAN. Taking castles all over the place, and with Aemond, comes up with a great plan that Rhaenyra walks right into. Too bad the idiot king got himself killed, not your fault Criston, the guy was a dope.
We found a Criston Cole fan! I actually might run with this as a bit.
@@OystersClamsCockles lol please don't run with that -- IMO as dangerous as Aemond is I feel like Ser Crispy is lucky he's still alive. Aemond could've done the 1-2 (especially with other knights literally burned to ash - would've been totally plausible) -- no witnesses.
@@amarbyrd2520 I think Aemond knew he was goading Aegon into doing something stupid. He was 100% prepared for Sunfyre to show up. I think he was happier to eliminate his brother than he was to go up against his aunt.
@@vtringalejust my opinion but no way did Aemond expect the idiot king to fly in, Vhegar was about to take flight and you could see Aemond’s disgust when he looked up and saw Sunfyre. I do think he took the opportunity to try and kill him though.
@@OystersClamsCocklesthat would be hilarious, love the coverage and channel!
100% alicent was pregnant I said that too! They made it a point to show her rubbing her belly and maybe it even looked a little swollen. I think there is plan tea but it could also work like an abortion if you’re already pregnant.
💯
Over/under on the number of phone calls correcting Ross that it's "Rook's Rest", not "Rook's Nest"?
Shockingly, we got 83 hotline calls and 0 of them mentioned it haha but I did get like 15 DMs
@OystersClamsCockles 83 calls is awesome and true indication of how successful your pod has become.
Keep doin' what you're doin'.
Just curious if you guys have any opinions on: (1) why everyone calls Rhaenyra kinslayer but no one calls Aemond that for killing Luke? (2) why is Dany able to command 3 dragons simultaneously in GoT but no one in HotD seems able to with so many unclaimed dragons?
Im about to light up.... the like button lol
LIGHT IT UP WOOK
Nice intro this week
I know this is random AF, but can we get tighter shots? I see you want to fit the background in, but feels like too much empty space. Love the content.
We appreciate the note, for real. Will experiment with this.
@@OystersClamsCockles it looks fantastic! Really. Maybe it’s just my knit picking OCD but hoping to be helpful with some feedback! Keep it up!
Rhaenys already has lost all of her children, her husband cheated on her, and she knows her grandchildren are relatively safe. That's why I feel like she stayed in the fight.
Yeah seemed like she was spent.
Dragons don't generally disengage. Plus she already ran from the dragon pit and refused to help daemon kill vhaegar. I don't see her character fleeing
barrett w those scrolls in the beginning👀😂😂
She didn’t turn back because she had the opportunity to take both dragons out…. If it was just a 1v 1 meleys would have won
Aemond kills both Rheanys and Luke. Surely there's gotta be raven tv in the Free Cities. Cuz there could be no better reason for Leanor to return. If not, just to bury his mother who never found out he's still alive. So I predict Daddy will lead his remaining child and niece to seek vengeance . Triple team, as Ross said. And put that big fat cow down for good.
I hope Baela is the one to put Aemond and Vaeghar down for good.
@@keshiamccray2173 Seems like Baela and Jace could make a pretty good team. Just like the old days when there were kids. Vaeghar is such a huge monstrosity the more the merrier when it come to taking her down.
I feel like the lady who got kicked off the plane every time I see Alys “that mfer back there is not real”. Definitely getting ghost vibes from her. Also it’s been a few years since I last watched thrones but I’m pretty sure bran tells Tyrion that his wheelchair was invented by some Targaryen he went back and saw in the past. Maybe we see Aegon wheelchair bound after his fall? Idk I’m too afraid to google or look back at old episodes risking spoilers.
It doesn't seem like any body else sees Alys or interacts with her. She feels very ghosty to me too.
Never Google anything about this show
If they keep this up they can reboot GoT and fix the ending nonsense
They’re on fire. Sometimes literally.
I was thinking the same thing. Tons of he fans would be down for that. Not sure how they'd to it. Maybe Bran could turn back time.
Aegon needs babbel 😭😭😭
Had to take advantage of that situation hahah
@@OystersClamsCockles That was a smooth endorsement -- but it was clear Aegon did not study when he had the chance 🧐- he was like "I can haz war" like the cheezburger cats
Let the implosion begin...
Begin?!? Has it not begun?!?
@@OystersClamsCockles yes it has. But the dragons i meant. Full speed ahead.
Please don’t mention events from next episode trailer - I’m never seeing those so I can know nothing 🙏🏻
We used to stay pure and not even watch those but so many people do watch them and want to talk about them so we kinda switched up. We're going to start adding a verbal "preview spoiler warning" before we mention those moving forward at the very least though.
I don’t think Leanor will come back
I think he is dead, hence why Seasmoke is 'restless'
@@BombasticLove87 oh no ... He's in the Free Cities. And Rheanys' funeral will be just the thing to bring him back and avenge his mother and adopted child.
WHERE IS VERMITHOR
Big chillin
I’m only here cause of FormulaBone. You guys didn’t disappoint!! Love this let’s keep it going.
J-BONE!
The song of Ice and Fire ended with a bunch of cardio on a one VERY-VERY dark night. 🥱
A Lannister being on the throne, soooooooo what's the point? 😑
HBO needs to admit they totally screwed GOT and give up the cope.
