- Crazy Dave shows you how to save almost $700.00.... All you have to is a few steps and replace a very cheap part. Watch to see how you too can save money.
Off camera I did do a voltage check and did not mention it. But I showed the bulb did light up.
I replaced the FCM and still had same issue. I also replaced the entire fuse box and still same issue. The video is to show people how not to make the same mistake I did.
Everything I read kept saying replace the FCM, replace the Fuse Power Module (Fuse Box), nothing said check the light socket.
Regardless of what it could be always take the least expensive road FIRST & more often than not you can and will save a ton of $$! Great video and thanks for sharing, although my issue is and has always been my tail lights and that being said I always carry extra for the road. Thanks again.
If you’re referring to the right rear bulb. I believe the brake bulb only yeah I had that issue for a while
3 things I did
1 i made sure I had the right bulb because there are two different bulbs on that assembly
2 make sure your assembly is not cracked
3 I took a little bit of a small nail filer and I rubbed up against each one of those two metal prongs to clean up the oxidation
You saved me a couple bucks salute to you💯💪🏽
The easiest fix is for this issue is to remove the fcm and put dielectric grease on the pins of the fcm and also in the holes of the receptacle for the fcm on the side of the fuse box. Fixed mine in seconds. It’s a connection issue. Try this trick first it cost next to nothing and worked for me.
That can work along with adding a few washers / shims to the bolts too
Good tutorial when the problem happens to be the socket. If I may suggest using a 12v circuit tester as the first troubleshooting step at 0:58 before cutting it out. If the wire has voltage, proceed. Otherwise replacing the socket would be useless as the problem is elsewhere. I had this problem with my 04 and it turned out to be the fcm.
Thanks. I did that off camera and did not mention it. But I also showed the bulb did light up.

I think I have the same FCM problem with my 04 Ram. Did you have to flash your new FCM or just plug and play?
If you replace the FCM which I did not have to, you will need to have dealer flash it.
Crazy Dave's Kitchen FWIW I ordered a used one off eBay plugged it in and it works, no flash.
Post the item number and link for others.
That’s great news. Glad it worked for you
This reminds me of the office when Kevin's trying to rebuild a turtle
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This deserves more likes
The American version is so much better
Another fix if light socket is good. Remove fuse box and clean it if there are signs of corrosion coming from circuit board you will have to open it up and inspect for corrosion. But if none exits simply remove fuse box from mount unscrew front control module, while battery connected reinsert module see if problem Is fixed and reinstall screws and reinstall fuse box.
Going to watch this later
Be sure to check that you don't have a lamp out. In my case I found a disconnected connector on my right rear tail-light.
Interesting. I may have to do this...
Thanks for video.
SEEK JESUS CHRIST WITH ALL YOUR HEART.
Did you check your voltage in the headlight socket prior to changing? I'm getting 12v in the socket but no low beam
This is old but for anyone who stumbles on this:
Voltage drop readings don't tell you much with the circuit open. The circuit has to be complete and under load (on) before you can confidently say that the bulb is getting a good power and ground.
Uh, isn't the cheapest fix to just replace the lightbulb assuming that you don't know yet what else is wrong??
Thanks my man!
All my lights are working which headlight tends to be the the most problematic thank you that light is driving me crazy and the dinging don't help any assistance would be appreciated
It could be either one. Have you’ve checked both yet. Sometimes it’s a loose or corroded wire.
Did u get a new bulb
Yes I got a new ball and I ended up replacing some of the wiring as it was the wire that was short
thank you!!! worked great 04 dodge ram
does it really work my truck says the same thing
04 ram
Try and see…
Mine has the right rear taillight out and also the license plate lights. Any fix for that??? Thanks
Have checked voltage to the plugs? Also switch the bulbs around. Some bulbs are polarity specific
I just hit my hi beams on and off and warning light went off
I just turned on my high beams and it fixed it
I didn't have any lamps out so i pulled all my taillight bulbs out and put them back in and the lamp out light never came back on.
Thanks for this much respect from your Muslim friend from Detroit
Great video
Seems like you are pretty good at this, i have a problem with my 2006 Ram 2500, all of my lights works except of my rear driver side parking lights. Blinkers, reverse and stop lights works, my only issue is with my parking light, any thoughts?? And how to fix it? pls
Any errors on dash?
Does it work in parking mode or full on at all?
Sometimes this could be a bad headlight switch or even a relay.
Crazy Dave's Kitchen All the lights on the tail light stop working a day ago (driver side only)
Crazy Dave's Kitchen Now it says Lamp out on dash
Would have to say it’s a relay. Ant remover where it’s located though. I could be wrong on this but only 1 side sounds like relay
Crazy Dave's Kitchen Where is it located?
Only works temporarily I fixed mine for 6 years now take off the PCM off the side of the fuse box bend every pin slightly crooked so that they contact better when you plug them back in and it's worked for 6 years without going out!
Sometimes that will work and sometimes adding washer or shim will work as well.
@@CrazyDavesKitchen Just wanted to put it out there because it drove me nuts for two years but the last six hasn't happened once!
@@CrazyDavesKitchen and I found out the reason it happens in the first place there's a rubber bushing that allows the whole fuse box to sit there and just jiggle every second the motor's running get rid of the rubber bushing throw a bolt in there make it rigid and it never bounces around and loosens up pins again!
The other reason why this happens because dodge put the box over the tire well, and water hits the underside.
New or replacement fuse boxes have a bottom cover now to prevent this.
I tried everything mentioned in these comments on my 2002 Dodge Ram. The only thing that has worked for me (now for over 18 months) was improving the connections between the FCM and the Fusebox. The FCM mounts on the side of the fusebox. Over time the pins corrode and intermittently lose contact. I used a small diamond-chip probe to clean the male and female sections. All my problems were not solved, however, until I inserted shims inside the female sockets. I made the shims by flattening out short sections of #12 awg copper wire like used in wiring houses. I inserted the shims (about 1" long) and replaced the FCM. To this date, there have been no further problems.
Which one is the actual ground and low and high beam?
good one Dave
Thank you for your help
I’m going to try this.
Those are heat shrink butt connectors, could have been shrunk tight to the wires with the heat gun, then slide up heat shrink and shrink that as well!
I noticed that as well. I tested my wife and she identified the issue too. 😊 we all have brain farts on occasion.
I have this error code on my dodge now would that be the cause of my lights going out for a few seconds when switching from low beam to high and vis versa ?
If going out from low to high that sounds like the relay to me.
My lamp out is erratic. It goes on and off. If i touch the brake it dings. Or use turn signal. All of my lights work.
That unfortunately sounds like possible ground issue or the FCM may need shimming.
Have you tried to run a 2nd ground?
Before replacing the FCM you might have to replace the whole fuse box if it got corroded underneath
www.moparpartsinc.com/p/Ram__1500/POWER-DISTRIBUTION-CENTER-Intelligent-Power/78277633/68322371AD.html?partner=googlebase_adwords&kwd=&origin=pla&partnerDevice=m&userLocation=9031548&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj-Hk-JLH6wIVMhh9Ch1BqAUNEAQYAiABEgIkJvD_BwE
My grandson has a 2003 1500 4.7 noticed last couple of times driving at night the headlights would flash off then bk on any ideas what might cause that cause he said he dont have a lamp warning on
Loose connection or a bad switch.
Does it do it when hitting a bump or anytime
I switched my headlamps to led and now it says I have a lamp out, but every single light is working. Any thoughts? Maybe it’s not drawing enough power as the original stock lamps and it thinks I have a light out
Yes, you need a Led Load Resistors (could be wrong name) it’s a LED Anti Error Load resistor or something. You put in line with the LED. They sell them at auto zone, pep boys.
@@CrazyDavesKitchen 50 ohm resistor on each lamp in series with the power wire
I used resistors in my 2006 ram
I did this and it didn't do anything and I changed the bulbs and everything. Now there use to be a plow hooked up on the truck so do you think that the splicing made this happen?
Very possible. Also check the headlight switch too
@@CrazyDavesKitchen Ok thank you. I just piggy backed a wire to the other headlight for now and it works lol. Now my issue is my tail light. The running lights wont work on the left side and when i press my brakes my license plate lights go on and my reverse light and my blinker will blink really fast then stop and go slow, These Ram wiring issues i tell ya.. Thanks for the info and responce.
Unfortunately in that case it could be the FM module if I remember correctly or it could even be the fuse box assembly on these trucks they put the fuse box right over the tire well and did not have a cover for them the new replacement versions do come with a cover to prevent all the water and mud from getting caught on the cables and corroding them
My passenger headlight is out along with my passenger rear lamp. Coincidence? I also experienced my cooling fan motor that blew. Could be my entire fuse box going out?
Highly possible or lots of corrosion. Dodge had a poor design on the fuse box by putting it over the front wheel well and did not properly weather seal it.
The new replacement fuse boxes come with a splash guard.
What if it's the tail light bulb that won't turn on but the bulb is good
I would first start with a voltmeter to determine if you are receiving power at the connection if you are not receiving power at the lightbulb connection point then you might have a bad light bar.
Swap the light bars from left to right and see problem moved. If so change the light bar that connects to the taillight housing
If problem still occurs checking the wire harness that connects to light bar as these can get dirty or damaged
I have the same problem! Lol
My passenger led light keeps flickering on and off in high and low beam. Would be doing what you did fix it?
That’s sounds like you need resistors
@@CrazyDavesKitchen thanks, just purchased a set
I'm not getting a juice to the lights....one side on the high beam the other side on the low beam....
That may require the work of an auto electrician
Great video but what if all light are working but lamp out is still on dash
Could be a reverse polarity bulb or LEDS will do that too.
If all good then I’d look at replacing the fuse box. I ended up replacing my fuse box after the issue came back.
Dodge put the fuse box in a bad spot with no water protection from tire well.
Most replacement fuse box module now come with water covers on the bottom.
I have lamp out but only when applying brake ? 2004 dodge ram 1500 4.7l 4x4 auto ST
Ok that means you have a bad bulb or a mismatched one.
Are they by chance LED? I got that with LED.
Change the brake light bulbs I believe 3157, sometimes you can try to remove it and turn it around too.
Let me know
@@CrazyDavesKitchen thank you
I have no dash lights or interior lights fuses are good , could it be the head light switch ?
That or the fuse box. Lastly the FCM, they say try the washer method on it. That’s the unit connected to the fuse box.
@@CrazyDavesKitchen whats the washer method ?
Look where the FCM On nexts to the fuse box. Get some thin washers and put them between the FCM and the fuse box some times one others may need 2 but try this.
What happens as I’ve investigated is oxidation and by using the washers you are giving it cleaner metal to bond to.
Washer method aka shimming
@@CrazyDavesKitchen Shimming the FCM out so it doesn't plug all the way in?
Would this message come up when you switch to LEDs cuz all my lights are working but message is still on only happened after changing the lights
Yes unless you add load resistors
I have a 2004 ram 2500 5.7. I have the lamp out light and my passenger side high beam doesnt work. I changed the buld but when i put a new bulb it it lights up and stays lit does turn off untill i put the old bulb back in any thoughts
Have you changed the light plug itself? That could also be 1 of 2 switches. The light switch on the dash or the one connected to your steering wheel
Did you fix your problem??
Uughhh I'll just home and bring it to my husband to get that fix😂
All my lights on my 03 Cummins work but the Lamp Out is still on... and now my 7-way trailer plug has no power... any suggestions?
Could be a bad fuse box. The bottom wires o we the wheel well are exposed. They since made a replacement box with a bottom cover to protect again corrosion.
@@CrazyDavesKitchen Fuse box are expensive, and there is no fuse option for the lights ..... I'll probably just custom wire it to my tailights
There are 2 relays inside the fuse box that control the trailer lights. They are only accessable if you split the box and solder in new relays. It's a job but very do-able.. Do a search. the vids are very good on the process...
The trailer relays are less than 15 bucks... They are soldered to the board inside the fuse box
I got the lamp out message and my blinker ( front driver ) was blinking really fast , so i was ready to go to the store to get a bulb and replace the rear light, but when I started the truck again everything was fine, any ideas of what could be wrong?
Led? Did you replace any with LED? also did you replace any? If led you need load resistors, if regular bulbs reverse the polarity and see.
Any idea what was wrong? I have the same intermittent issue.
I’ve got the same problem, and did this, hoping to fix it… but nope. Didn’t work. ☹️
Sorry it didn’t help.
@@CrazyDavesKitchen was worth a shot right!!
Have you checked every light. It’s crazy but you have to check them all. Even the 3rd brake light. Also the truck is picky about using led bulbs too.
@@CrazyDavesKitchen I’ll give it a try.
I need to replace my license plate lights, they're toast. I do have low beams but my passenger high beam doesn't work i'll try to do what you did here.
Good luck and report back
esa alarma también aparece por falta de luces traseras??
Correcto como una bombilla fundida o, a veces, la incorrecta. algunas bombillas LED generarán el mensaje de error.
También noté que si el enchufe está sucio o suelto también.
@@CrazyDavesKitchen excelente, gracias :D
I have a dodge Cummins 2500 2004 and when I put the low lights on don’t turn on and on the hight lights it dose what could it be .?
No low b and....!have you changed the bulbs first? Then check wiring: are you getting the message on dash?
Sometimes s you can test the bulbs by changing sides to see same problem.
Okay thank you sir
Will this fix the parking light issue?
It could, have you checked the bulbs, and wirings. Any loose connection or bad wiring could trigger this light (I had this once and was the license plate bulb) . I wish there was a way to tell which bulb is giving the indicator.
Did you find your fix Tristan?
Tristan? I’m sorry I’m not sure of your question
All my lights work except the left signal light through my 7 pin and 4 pin trailer wiring...
If it’s just your trailer plug it could be a short somewhere in the wiring itself.
Thanks for that great video.. unfortunately it did not work for me... damn light still on...😡
Sorry bud, next step would be to shim with thin washers the FCM unit next to the fuse box.
@@CrazyDavesKitchen: Thanks man..much appreciated 👍..
Its not just on 1500
Also 2500 3500
Anybodys' "lamp out" flash and chime once in a while, but no lamps are out? It's starting to get very annoying.
That could be a bulb that needs to be turned around. Kinda pain in the butt to find too.
It could also be a loose bulb and the vibrations of the road causing this.
I had that happen and eventually I was able to locate the socket. I took a very small slot screwdriver and spread the contact points to make the socket tighter. Since no more issues
in other words, you diagnosed the actual problem instead of just throwing parts at it
honestly, who t.f. replaces a fuse box over a simple electrical issue like this lol yikes
Research tipm and you'll know why
Having to replace the fuse box is a common issue with rams having the lamp out message, unfortunatley.
My lamp out light on the dash came on but I have high beams and low beams
Check your tail lights. Sometimes a loose bulb will do this this
@@CrazyDavesKitchen get really sick of this truck everything on this truck goes wrong or has been going wrong. The engine light keeps coming on it's the gas cap bought a new gas cap still comes on check the line to the gas tank no leaks keep shutting the engine light off trucks are piece of s***
Have you had a mechanic pressure test from the gas cap for the filler at home you’d be surprised that there may be a small leak there or it could even be I believe a breather hose I could be wrong on that
Most mechanic shop have the ability to test the gas cap and the filler neck for possible leaks
Do you have a code reader that will read the code
Nice.
If my parking lights or headlights are off. I wont get the lamp warning. ( when using the turn signal)
But if they are on. I will get that light with a warning beeping sound.
Mario Rodriguez I’m having trouble with that too.. I just changed out a bad fuse to my left taillight and now all my lights work but when I turn on my headlamps the lamp out blinks
That sounds more like a possible short
Crazy Dave's Kitchen I recently had to change both my front headlamps after hitting a deer..lucky I had a brushguard otherwise everything would’ve got messed up..maybe I didn’t push the turn signal connectors all the way in
Mario Rodriguez man... if you hit a deer I wonder if possible a wire got stripped.
Check all the wires as much as possible. Try to move the wires and see if lights flicker.
I bet somewhere it’s shorting out.
Also make sure you push this in hard. Oh, I would also use a dielectric cleaner and make sure all connections are clean. You’d be surprised how a little oxidation can cause problems
Crazy Dave's Kitchen and what’s crazy is that up until today when I changed out the blown fuse the lamp out would only turn on with the right signal and not the left..now it’s with both..but all lights work as they should..I’m thinking there is a bad ground somewhere
Touching the battery with a metal tool 🤔
All my lights works. Any thoughts
If you verified that 100% of your flights are working only other option you have would be FCM module have you tried to shim that using some small washers
Ah, you must not have a third gen Dodge Ram.
Not sure. Mine is 2004 1500 Hemi
Don’t need water tight butt connectors my butt is watertight
I started getting the lamp out when I switched to Led lights
Yes I found that out too. You need load resistors as the dodges use a canbus system.
Crazy Dave's Kitchen I bought resistors canvas system ones and it still does it. I probably have to change out the heads from the truck end
Try reversing the polarity of the bulb and see. I’m surprised even with the resistor your having issues.
Did you put the resistors in line with each bulb?
Crazy Dave's Kitchen yes I did. I’ll try moving them around and see what I get
@@jmemixx what was the outcome on this. I'm having the same issue but after tail light led install?
All my lights are working but the lamp out is still there
Check your lic plate lights as well. The other one that also does this is the 3rd brake light if any of those are out it will do it.
Check all bulbs and make sure none have oxidation or corrosion.
Sometimes it will also display that message.
What sucks the most about this truck, it does not tell you what light is out.
Lastly if is still does it, then check your fuse box, under it can get really bad oxidation. I have seen posts and videos where the fuse box is corroded underneath as it sits over tire well, dodge has since redesigned them to have a cover on the bottom.
@@CrazyDavesKitchen my battery is going bad, but all my lights seem fine. Could the battery be the issue
Estefan Olivares bad battery or bad alternator can trigger this too. You said the lights works but are they very low and if you press accelerator do they get brighter?
Have you’ve tried to fully charge battery remove negative post and reconnect to see if error goes away.
Or you can remove negative, charge battery, then reconnect and leave battery charger or jumper cables connected to also see if issue goes away.
This will confirm the issue is the charging system
essau island
THIS DIDNT WORK FOR ME
Ok and you checked all the bulbs?
Next try to shim the FCM with a few thin washers. That will sometimes work.
If still a failure after shimming, your next step is to replace the whole fuse box panel.
When dodge made these they did not put a bottom cover on the fuse box. Since it’s over the wheel well water collects on the bottom and it starts to oxide and corrode.
The new replacement fuse boxes come with a bottom plastic shield now. ( do not buy a used one).
Good luck
@@CrazyDavesKitchen Thank you
Doesn’t work . TIPM is bad on this dodge trash
Have you tried shimming it. I remember hearing that adding thin washer shims work too.
@@CrazyDavesKitchen tried everything even soldered wires, cleared codes, nothing. Ended up wiring a relay for low beams not spending a thousand dollars on TIPM and programming
@BEEPPIS wow… I also ended replacing my whole fuse box at one point since dodge put the box right on top of the wheel well. The new box have a shroud to keep water out.
you lie, don't cheat us, I did it and it didn't work
Regio Garcia no luck?
@@elmort7376 nop, I had to change the entire fuse box. I bought a used box and it works well
Wow calling me a liar.... I never promised first time results. Your issue can be the FCM or even the fuse box.
I changed my FCM and still had issue, then changed the fuse box, finally it was the light.
Tried helping you save money by going in reverse. But to name call like that is so rude.
This guy is so arrogant lol hes trying to help and you call some random guy a liar? Look in the mirror dumb ass lol.
This was uncalled for. This video is just one of many possiblities to help people avoid spending $300+ when it could be a $20 fix. I had the same problem and my fix was different also. Ingrate!
front blinkers work tail lights and brake lights work, but no rear blinkers? or emergency lights any info?
Ghetto Country Life did you fix it ?
