This is cool to begin with, but what makes to even better is the fact that you can use this method to make more than geodes. You can just make different shapes and crystallize them. Thank you for sharing this method!

Does the chenille stems have to be the same color when you turn it into a dome?

You can experiment with what you have; we just chose white in case you don't want to dye the liquid and want a clear crystal. Also, depending on the dye color of choice, the chenille color still may show through.

Yes, you can use a dome-shaped item and/or an egg shell, it will work the same. However, when using a base form, you will need to add a layer of white glue and alum before submerging the item into the solution to make sure the crystals start growing there before growing on the outside of the jar. It can be found in most grocery stores in the laundry detergent aisle.

Yes, they will dissolve if they get wet and possibly if they are exposed to high humidity for a long period of time. To protect them, spray them with an acrylic sealant like Krylon.
