In this video, we show you an objective, real world, head to head comparison of the all new Klipsch RP-1200SW, RP-1600SW, and SVS SB16-Ultra subwoofers!
This video is NOT sponsored. All equipment was purchased by us with our own money.
in order to have a fair comparison, the gain on all three subwoofers were set to max, the master system volume was not changed, and the output from Room EQ Wizard (REW) was set to -18dB.

We realized we misspoke about acoustic output after the video was published, and will be addressed in a future video. It takes about 10dB for the human ear to feel as though it's twice as loud. A difference of 3dB is what it takes for a change to be perceived by the human ear. It also takes double the power (all else being equal) to increase the acoustic output by 3dB.

Not surprised of results, but all things are not equal regardless of the SVS specs. Most audio people know that sealed subs will not compete with vented subs. Test the PB 16 against the Klipsch 1600. Please note, not a fan boy of SVS, I own Monolith Subs, and Klipsch speakers.

I’m just curious if the Klipsch 1600 will have port chuffing in the sub sonic region and how the driver/amp behaves in those lower frequencies.

    • @russsmith1011

@@Smood47 It's only stupid if you're a one-trick pony who never listens to music with deep bass and don't care about chuffing noise. This comparison was done because (a) there's more to sub performance than max LF output, and (b) to compare the composure of the Klipsch at subsonic freqs to a popular sealed sub which, of course, does not have port chuffing noise (but may bottom out if not limited).

Only way Klipsch will be able to keep up with the competition. Is only by doing there well known deep discounts. Other then that they will not. Not trying to say people won’t buy it. Just saying price to performance just isn’t on the same level as other ID brands. Also comparing ported vs sealed isn’t the same. If he compared the PB16. No way it would able to hang. But this is a great review for sure.

While I find these kind of comparisons entertaining, I also feel it's very misleading for naive viewers when statements like "all things being equal" are used. Comparing even a flagship sealed to a ported sub is not equal. SVS own entry level PB-1000 Pro has more output at 20hz than the SB16-Ultra. That's how much ports play a difference. Now run that sweep below 14hz, and the sealed isn't going to fall off the charts like the ported will either. I look forward to the PB16-Ultra results as they should be quite shocking. 🤯 Ciao!

I'm very surprised at the 12 incher, to say the least. The 16 inch monstrosity with a cabinet the size of your average closet, sure, I would expect that to do extremely well for SPL in a ported design, but that 12 incher is what, a third of the price of an SB 16 Ultra? Very very impressive. Sure, there are probably intangibles, like fit and finish, and of course a sealed sub may well be more effortlessly musical, but wow. Also, of course, the SVS will have the bluetooth app and built in DSP I guess that's in their new lineup. Might still be the better sub overall, but it's also way more expensive than the gigantic 1600SW that outperforms it. Would be very interesting to see how the PB 16 fares in this comparo, comparing sealed to ported is a little apple and orange-ish. Edit: Oh, I see you've made that video - off to watch it I go.

From my personal experience, I had better results with even my SPL-150 then the pb16 ultra.
1st I did by ear and was shocked, did REW measurements and confirmed SPL-150 was actually getting slight better response.
That’s when I got rid of the dual svs & went dual Klipsch 🤷🏻‍♂️
Wild but ey that was what worked for me.
Maybe it had to do with my listening volume, I’m sure cranked up SVS would outperform but I simply don’t listen that loud. I think I was at -30db on my AVR,
Typically I’m around -40-ish heck even -50 which SVS was barely audible even at MAX again & +12 db on AVR while Klipsch was audible , guess it’s more sensitive.

Thank you for your feedback. The SB16-Ultra and the PB16-Ultra are awesome subwoofers. The PB16-Ultra should have higher max output than the PR-1600SW. In our testing here, we did not test max output, just straight out of the box sweeps. The RP-1600SW is more sensitive than the PB16-Ultra, which is why you see higher output at the same settings here. It does seem like the Klipsch has less port noise than the SVS, but that may vary depending on the setting you use on the SVS and other factors. While the SVS app is really nice, we have found that a lot of people don't take advantage of it. Depending on the room size, you may not need the extra power/output from the SVS, and with how much more the SVS is, this is definitely something to consider. Also, you can get something like a MiniDSP, or a new AVR like the Integra DRX-8.4 that allows you to take advantage of Dirac active bass management which gives you a lot more control. At the end of the day, it depends on your space, the experience you want, and ultimately your budget.

Klipsch is not a closed system. It has a Rp 1600 port, just like the SVS 16 Ultra. It beats the SVS 16 Ultra, why don't you accept it? Don't be a brand addict. The data is clear, Klipsch is better, and at half the price.
