Still incredible to watch even at 49 years old. Brings back so many great childhood memories.
Ahhh the 1980s best decade ever
Happy 40th Anniversary, Raccoons On Ice!
The Mike Bossy jersey means much more today.
I'm a sports reporter who loved this show as a kid. Thanks, Disney Channel, for giving U.S. Americans, such as myself, this gem from the Great White North. This is what sports is all about. My colleagues should all watch this to refresh.
i bet you love Animalympics then
Only saw a handful of the raccoons as a child. I appreciate being able to enjoy them all.
Especially the curly haired singer from England who's now a naturalized Australian
One of the first movies I can remember. I remember the narrator's voice. About 15 years later I had the pleasure of being asked on stage by Rich Little and I had no idea who he really was. He didn't tell me he was famous. What a humble guy.
Nostalgic overload, I remember this as Kid during the 80's myself and my cousins and friends, used to watch the Raccoons on Children's ITV.
4:50 was the moment I always remembered the most since I first watched this special over 20 years ago. I also like that Cyril called Melissa sweetie. It shows he knows a cutie when he sees one.
This is the very first episode of The Raccoons that I ever saw..& i think it started The Raccoons series..i love this show-so many memories!! Absolutely love this.. 🏒 🍁 💕 👍👍
“Geeee thaaaaanks. Eh see ya Chafer!” 🤓
“I’m Sofia tutu~” 🥰😌😘😘
“We’re the good guys, remember? So we’re supposed to win, right?”
“WOW! look at all these MARKS! They’re everywhere!” 😲
Amazing lines. First time watching here.
“You dumb jocks, you wouldn’t even frighten Goldilocks” my favorite quote from the whole thing😂
Thank You Run With Us Productions for uploading everything with The Raccoons. ❤ I've been missing this for so many years and sometimes I have believe that I will never see this again. I and many of us are so thankful to have this chance to see this again. ❤This brings the childhood back for me and for many of us. ❤
I can’t believe my city library, Canadian city that is, does not have this collection. Greatest Canadian produced media along side Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlea.
I loved watching this as a kid. I recorded this episode on VHS!
The music in this is an absolute JOY. PLEEEEASE let the reboot utilize this kind of music again. I need it so much! 😭
If you think that's gonna happen you're in for a terrible letdown. The remake destroys everything that was great about this cartoon. Have you seen the new character designs? They are hideous. Theyve also gone the poltically correct route. Melissa no longer has feminine attributes, eyelashes, breasts or an hourglass figure. Cyril Sneer's trademark cigar is gone,as are the lines around his eyes and the evil canted eyes are replaced by round ones. It's a big letdown.instead if swimming upstream and staying true to the original concept and Paul Schiblis great character designs, they decided to pander to the current trends. I had hoped Mr Gillis would remember what made the raccoons a hit to begin with. Avoid the remake. Don't let it soil your memories
@@Suddenlyits1960 Yeah, I had expected as much. And yeah, I did see the new designs. Bleh.
@@moccalouIt honestly baffles me that Kevin Gillis would go that route. He's certainly from an older generation and you'd think would know better, but this seems to be a current problem where people lose sight of what made their work a success and feel the desperate need to pander to current trends to stay "relevant".
Like I said,if you want to create a new show that has terrible woke artwork,do it with new characters, don't destroy people's memories.
There is no reason anything about the designs of these characters or shows needs to be altered for them to be enjoyed
@@Suddenlyits1960 Agreed. He was probably threatened with rescinded funding if he didn't make the changes to cater to "contemporary audiences."
Either that or he just really believes that it had to follow the trends of today to have the best chance of success.
You hear all these metrics about how children have lower attention spans now than any other generation, so they keep making things absolutely frenetic with no pacing.
The Raccoons is kind of all about somber pacing and giving you time to relax and enjoy the gentle moments that make up life.
I don't even know how The Raccoons could translate into a modern day cartoon. It'll just be the same zany crap but with characters that look vaguely like the raccoons. It sucks.
Adults are the ones making the decisions for what kids watch anyway, so we should start being brave and make things that challenge their attention span and return to slower, more thoughtful moral edutainment.
Ralph was voiced by Canadian actor, Bob Dermer who also voiced Grumpy Bear.
Bob Dermer also voiced Lady Baden-Baden in the TV series.
I think he also does the voice for Sam on Today's Special. I've been looking up this show too. I like Today's Special. Bob Dermer..also did the Cadaian version of The Care Bears 🐻 🍁 :)
Love it.
They’re like Romeo and Juliet!
Look here, sofa girl! Sofa, couch, davenport!
The Dominion of Canada was a major ice hockey nation, but the Bermudas (a British overseas territory in North America) wants England's hockey on quad roller skates.
DVOMIM !
They actually reused the line “shut up, snag” from Cyril again in the episode Cry Wolf where Bert is hanging off the balcony and falls.
Best Len Carlson Bert iconic/savage moments:
3:36
3:54
7:42
8:07
6:48
19:18
Please tell me I’m not the only one who massively crushed on Bert, he’s so cute! 😊
RIP
still gives me chills
Best cartoon ever
agreed
More good stuff.
15:08 Shut up, Snag!,😂
15:13 Stop it, Snag!! (kicks Snag aside) 😂😂
15:25 (kicks Snag out the door) 😂😂
Gee, Cyril was quite abusive to his dog in the specials😢
11:27 First time Cyril has ever swallowed and choked on his cigar. I betcha his organs will be suffering big time after that. 😖😖
12:10 Snag is having so much fun on the ice😂😂
Yes,Cyril was extremely evil in the first three specials. I love dogs but it's a cartoon and was meant to display how violent Cyril was. I also thought it was funny that he threatened Cedric. It was a shame the watered the character down. He was far more maniacal
@@Suddenlyits1960 I believe it’s called character development
@@disneyfan9134 I tried to tell him that...but he keeps insisting that the TV series "ruined" him by making nicer.
Cyril in the specials was abusive, period. Not just to his dog lol.
How did a New York Islander jersey get in this movie ?
Cyril sure was evil in these TV specials; threatening to choke Cedric and throwing him in a dungeon.
And you gotta love Cedric. He was one of the only nerds on TV who was good at sports.
Yes,these specials were intended to appeal to a much broader age group and "political correctness" hadn't destroyed anything fun yet. Adults watched these and liked them too. The series had far less expressive animation and Cyril was toned down a lot. He even became a do gooder. 🙄 The three specials were all great. The series was good but didn't have the same.feel as these. Then they started introducing new characters like Bentley.
@@Suddenlyits1960 The TV series also aired on prime time, though...I wouldn't say they toned Cyril down...it was more like character development. Toning him down would imply some form of censorship like taking away his cigar or making him less greedy which wasn't the case at all.
All of the main cast developed as the show went on:
- Bert started out as impulsive and immature. By the end of the series, he wised up a lot.
- Cedric was sheepish and deathly afraid of Cyril. He managed to gain some confidence and even stood up to his father a couple of times.
- The Raccoons at the start of the series had no sense of purpose whatsoever, which changed when they opened the Evergreen Standard.
-Even Cyril's pigs, originally mindless yes-men, gained personalities of their own.
@teddybeer6206 They did tone him down quite a bit. That's not the same as character development. He was much more ruthless, violent and maniacal in the specials (kicking the dog, threatening cedric, trying to take over the earth) than he was in the series, and it wasn't done for the sake of character development,it was done to make it more child friendly. The tv series was more focused on teaching lessons and projecting morals than being just entertaining because its intended audience was different The specials were meant to stand alone, and have a broader more adult appeal, much like the classic Christmas specials in the 60's were. they had more free reign . They didnt have to worry as much about script approval and dealing with network constraints and censors in the same way as when youre doing a series.
Watch some of the Three Stooges theatrical shorts from the 30's,40's when they were in their top form and meant appeal to adults as well as children. They were incredibly violent and wacky and tossed in jokes adults would get. Then in the late 50's when they found a new audience through tv in reruns, parents complained about the crudeness and slapstick violnece and the act was toned down drastically to be more "kid friendly"..as a result the stooges became a shadow of themselves. I certainly wouldn't call that character development either, because it wasnt. These were constraints placed on them from others. What made the stooges popular was their original perosnailtys and act. Would you want to see Moe get married and become a loving dad like Ward Cleaver? No! I also dont want to see Cyril change into father of year.
I understand your points about Cyril in the series still being greedy, but he wasn't nearly as malevolent or evil as he was. They changed his character to make him more network and parent friendly. They tried to make him softer, and a good dad. He was even going to marry because he thought it was what cedric wanted. The old Cyril would have kicked Cedric out of the house and threatened violence. I certainly don't endorse Cyrils perosnailty traits in real life,,but they are darn entertaining in a tv show. People shouldn't be looking to cartoon characters to be role models. They should be fun and make you forget real life for a while.. I liked the series too,but towards the end of the run it really wasn't the same. It felt like the writers ran out of ideas and just brought in Bentley. Plus the animation and facial expressiveness of the specials were tops. I like the early Bert ans Cyril.
@@Suddenlyits1960 Season 1 Cyril still had the traits of what he was in the specials. (Trying to take over the forest, kicking Snag and throwing Cedric in the dungeon). Keeping that "Saturday Morning cartoon" style formula would have gotten old pretty fast. Not everything has to be the same all the time.
And by the way...while the specials were better animated, the character designs looked really rough, ESPECIALLY Cyril.
Also, early Bert was EXTREMELY annoying.
The first three specials had much better animation and character facial expressiveness than the tv series. The specials seemed designed to have a much broader appeal than the series which was toned down and geared more toward children.
Cryil Sneer was far less maniacal and evil in the series.
Kje pa je Serževa žena, Sinkova mama ? Nikoli je ni pokazalo ! Sta se ločila ? No, se ne čudim !
I think Cedric's mother died.
pretty melissa
15:21-15:42 Nick Jr Fishes Screenbug Appeared & 17:50-18:08 Nick Jr. Pigs Screenbug Appeared
I love the animation of these specials but dislike the voice actor for Melissa...
It's Rita Coolidge, famous singer. She sung the female songs for the 3 Raccoons specials❤
Which voice actor? Lol she had like four.
Specials 1&2: Rita Coolidge
Special 3: Dottie West
TV series Season 1: Linda Feige
TV series Seasons 2-5: Susan Roman.
That’s mean!
Raccoons and ice.. methinks theres a meth joke to be made
The Cyril's look like the Boston Bruins, Act the Boston Bruins and the end get ruined...
