Phenomenal piece. If I was a composer, this is the kind of piece that I'd love to have written. Each time I watch this video, I notice the people walking outside at 1:43 and 2:59. Completely unaware of the terrific music taking place just a few feet away from them...
hehe...funny you've been here also. kapustin chamber music has this intellectual rearing to its melody and rhythmic drive. i have always commented on the music of influential composer's like chopin as ardent and empowering. kapustin's music however, disbands this strain of pianism and adopts a separate identity, both soulful and virtuousic. playing kapustin's music allows the interpreter to empathize with being "cool and collected" without being subject to the sanction of societal norms.
I would love to play this piece with triplet feeling instead of even 8th notes. I wonder if that's completely against composer's wishes..? I think this piece would work great overall with swing rhythm, and in all performances that I've heard, including this one and even the one featuring Kapustin himself, it comes pretty close to that in some places, especially in the piano solos with walking bass from the cello. Did you guys consider that at any point and what do you think about it?
well, in the US you have to fit a certain profile to be outwardly "cool" without garnering jaded reception from certain circles. playing kapustin's music affords this status, that is, being "cool", to introverts like myself ;-)
Finally a pianist who understands how to swing Kapustin's music!
You two are revelation for me lately! Absolutely in love with your music performance!🥰
As a felow professional musician I salute you guys!
Гениальный Капустин в виртуозном исполнении блистательного дуэта! Восхищаюсь этими музыкантами и их выбором репертуара! Браво! 👏🏻

Слушала затаив дыхание. Как красиво...особенно партия фортепиано ❤
Classical music and jazz had a baby. This piece and impromptu are some of my favorite pieces by kapustin.
The combination of the piano and cello works together really well.
I just got into Kapustin - dear lord this is beyond anything.
spettacolo totale :D goduria inusitata! che svisate, che armonie, che phatos, che genio imprescindibilmente paraculistico!!! mi piace. godo.

I think it's more that the 'cello is mixed too far back in the recording.
funkay
Of what social norms do you speak? Jazz was very much against social norms in Russia for a great part of the 20th century.
Oh, I see ;-) But don't overdo the coolness in real life :-)
