Where do you gain inspiration for these creative encounters that you mention? like the library shadows or the mirror demon battle on the skyship? Any pieces of media or resource that you can recommend for coming up with these kinds of encounters that are puzzle-like in nature?
Mmmm so I am always taking mental notes of cool things I watch in media and always ask myself "how can i make this encounter More than just a beat em up encounter." Typically I will look at the lore of the place and what would make sense thematically. So I wanted a "librarian" or one fight, I knew she was dead so then it was a case of lookong for a scary undead to put in their place.
But in terms of media- gosh- some great video games out there are: It takes two, every encounter in baldur's gate 3, FFIX, Outer wilds, Tomb Raider (the old ones)- these are just a few games but each one of them gets you to think about thjngs a little differently. They all bring something fresh to their encounters. And that's usually what i look for whenever I want to consume media 😅 I'm almost always looking for something that does something new :P
Some great shows, movies etc that inspire me too would be~ I dunno off the top of my head:
Mind Game, Every season of JoJos Bizzare Adventure, Death Parade, Paprika, Mob Psycho 100, Berserk, FLCL, (I am looooving Delicious Dungeon) ooof- uuum and then asside from Anime: Into the Spiderverse, Bullet Train, The Princess Bride, The Breakfast Club, Knives Out, Glass Onion, all of the John Wicks, Everything everywhere all at once, Dune, anything by Wes Anderson, Bladerunner, Django Unchained, Mad max Fury Road, Drive, all of the Ghiblis, heist movies and con movies are big for me- gosh the list is endless.
Moral of the story- if you see something cool, take note of it, ask yourself how they did that. Break down media and absorb as much as you can and you'll find yourself training those creative muscles faster than you think. Applying those ideas and writing them down is essential too
Finally getting into high level dnd. My players are 14th level post Descent into Avernus, ran a two shot that turned into a five sessions of dungeon crawling and combat. It was fun but definitely saw how hit point battles can become a slog. This video contained a lot of great advice!
Aw that made my day to hear :3 thank you so much for watching!
I like this format! Very fun to listen you talk about things you've picked up as a DM and your various campaigns (and get behind-the-scenes insight on our games haha :p the library incident was super cool!)
Aw that means so much to hear :,) thank you!! Haha and yes xD gos I've loved this little flying dungeon you're in
Amazing content as always! High level play is such a pain but this was great advice so thank you!!
Aw :,) always a pleasure 🥰🥰
Really enjoyed watching the video. Makes me wish I had someone like you as a DM:)
I also wish to say my suggestion for a future Goblin UNscripted episode is you talking about everything that you love or dislike about each class and subclass
Aw that is so kind of you to say :,) thank you!
Oh and what a brilliant idea!!!
Will defo have to remember that!
Great video once again! Hope you do more with this format :) Had this in the background like a podcast while working on other things, and it was interesting to hear your thoughts. Also the library was such a cool scene and really fun to play! :D
Awww thank you so so much :,) means a lot! Mmm I'll definately try to continue this :3 share my ramblings of our games haha :3 loved the library too
Amazing advice! Thanks for such a thorough answer, it was very helpful
Aw I'm so glad :D
Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Really enjoyed this video, and I hope you do more like this.
Aw thank you so much :3 it probably won't do super well with the ol algorithm but I'll keep em coming every now and then ;P
This was amazing!!! I ran a "Champion Games", hunger games style event in my campaign. It gave my low level players a taste of high level magic items and serious foes to encounter. Their reward was a visit to an Oracle wish showed them their past present and future in the eyes of the BBEG, tangling his web of chaos throughout their experiences. It was great, but now they are power hungry for stronger loot 😅
Aw that sounds so so cool! I remember trying to run a hunger games style game in my teens and it didn't quite work- simply because everyone split up and went different ways xD
But I'm Loving the concepts you're throwing out here. Shame they got power hungry xD aint that just the way
I would love your take on the treasure/hoards in games. I just discovered your channel.
Aw no way :D welcome welcome :3 mmm I'll definately take not of that!
I'll put up another poll at somestage in the future to ask people's opinions on topics before I release another one :3
So (in case I forget) do add it in the list whenever it goes up ;3
Mmm... first?
Haha appreciate you!! XD
Can you please put time stamps for each topic so that we can pick and choose what topic we want to hear on.
Sure I can try do that at some stage resl soon!
