Blue Sphere 🔵 Easter Egg feat. NO WAY! - Sonic & Knuckles ✔

'NO WAY! NO WAY! NO WAY! NO WAY?' This is the message that appears on screen when the special Sonic & Knuckles cartridge is booted up, with a cartridge other then Sonic 2 or Sonic 3 attached to it. This sequence loops endlessly, alongside the main characters of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. What isn't apparent at first glance, is that you can access the Sonic & Knuckles Special Stages in what has become known as Blue Sphere. But what is Blue Sphere exactly?

Blue Sphere is essentially a video game in of itself, built around the Special Stages in Sonic & Knuckles. However, there is much more to it then what is seen here. These versions are different to those found in Sonic & Knuckles, and completing them unlocks further custom stages. While there are some exceptions, you can use almost any Mega Drive game to access a unique Blue Sphere stage based on the information inside that cartridge. Because of this, it is possible to access over 100 million different permutations, although playing this long enough may see repeat stages.
So how do you 'unlock' Blue Stage? Simply hold down all three action buttons ('A', 'B' & 'C') to reveal it. You can even use the same buttons to switch between Sonic & Knuckles. Press Start to play the Special Stage as normal. The goal as normal is to collect all the Blue Spheres, while avoiding any Red Spheres to advance to the next stage. Collecting all Rings while will still get you a Perfect run, but achieving this will result in advancing ten stages in difficulty.
Feel free to enjoy some quick gameplay footage of me as Sonic doing a Perfect run of this Special Stage. For reference, this was achieved with a ROM file to emulate the lock-on technology on an emulator.

Oh btw, the description might be wrong, I can boot up my Sonic & Knuckles cartridge without Sonic 3 or Sonic 2, I'm positive this screen only appears when you put in Sonic 1 on top of Sonic & Knuckles.

Oops! I meant to type in: 'a cartridge'; at the start. I'll update the description momentarily. This message appears on screen if any cartridge other then Sonic 2 or 3 is inserted into Sonic & Knuckles.
