I personally like the fact that the square characters aren't 1 to 1 with their original appearances. This allows the characters to interact differently and have different outcomes (ie Arieth still being alive, unique interactions between ff characters from different games like squall and the ff7 gang, Joshua being able to hang out with the TWEWY squad) while still being who they are at heart.
I discovered TWEWY thanks to Dream Drop Distance (thankfully my brother, who was the one playing DDD, didn't get far enough for us to get spoiled by Joshua's angel wings), and I am so grateful to have played such an amazing game.
I hope we see TWEWY World in KH4.
Same I finally got the chance to play the game last year and my love for these characters increased ten-fold. Josh and Neku are my favorites they're the best.

Not gonna lie, I'm kinda expecting that if we ever see TWEWY come back to the series, it'll be the reapers instead of the players. Half because Sho is inevitable, and half because I think it'd be a thematically fitting tie in given how Sora's starting to fuck with life and death as concepts. So whether it's Kitaniji or Shiba as Conductor, I can see a future game having Sora thrusted into a reaper's in a future title as a cosmic "fuck you" to the way he's started to bend reality to his will.

DDD got me curious about TWEWY. I remember literally having my mom drive me 45 min just to find a copy of it (back in the DS days). Best Buy out of curiosity I ever made.

I didn’t even know TWEWY was in DDD until one of my friends saw my physical copy on my shelf and said he recognized them from Kingdom Hearts.

I liked the crossover in DDD when the game came out, but time has made the heart grow less fond, especially in light of how many Kingdom Hearts fans were declaring that Neo TWEWY was going to be part of "Nomura's wild ride" or whatever after KH3's secret ending. At this point I just want the series to stay cleanly separated. TWEWY can grow on its own, I love that it has its own vibe, it doesn't need the validation of appearing in something else.

I agree with you. My guess is Quadtratum is a data version of the TWEWY Shibuya proper, just looking at how the trailer in Toy Box presented Yozora and gangs' abilities being geometric and digital esque. I can see the KHUX ending being related. I just think Nomura is fully open referencing his other works hes done, like the secret ending with Yozora being a Versus XIII homage. Which I kinda prefer, he has a lot more creative freedom with the story and plot compared to how letitous Disney is with their IP's.
Edit: I assume it'll involve Luxu as the ending in Re:Mind having the Union leaders not recognizing him at first indicates hes done the ol' body snatch. As his weapons as Braig look very similar to Yozoras crossbow in his boss battle.
For me, I was disappointed even back then because I wanted to have Neku (and Beat for Riku) act as party members, giving us Limits that called back to TWEWY. instead they're relegated to tutorials and cutscenes while we got the dream eaters as party members. Whee.
Idk. Im fine with them meeting. Its not like it need validation from kh but it does get more exposure due to the popularity of kh. Its nice to see square characters period mix with kh
Kingdom Hearts 2 does imply that the Auron who appears in Olympus Coliseum is THE Auron from Final Fantasy X
I have a weird history with TWEWY.
I discovered it, like a lot of people, through DDD, which was actually my first KH game. (I learned about the lore already, had a 3DS, and had a friend who got me into KH recently. This was also before I got a PS4) I saw Neku for the first time and thought "Hold on, who the hell is this guy?" Then I saw Shiki, and me having a HUGE thing for redheads, I thought "Ok, I'm listening now." I learned from the internet that these characters were from TWEWY, so I went online and bought the game. I played up to Rhyme getting eaten by the shark, and that's roughly where I left off with TWEWY. I got done for the day and just never picked it back up.
I also made some drawings of the main cast (except Joshua) and posted them on my Instagram. Through that, I made a friend, who recently I parted ways with due to some rather unfortunate circumstances brought on by things going on in the world and pettiness. That now ex-friend pushed me a bit more into TWEWY, but by that I mean I started watching someone else play it for a small bit, then just listened to a lot of the OST.
And then... the anime. I actually was one of the seemingly few people who watched the TWEWY anime, and it was really good. It gave me the story of the game condensed down into more digestible bits over playing the game itself.
To this day, I still haven't finished TWEWY, and I know really nothing past Week 1. Maybe if I can get it to work, I'll emulate the game so I can speed past some of the more sluggish bits. (I'm choosing to emulate over continuing on real hardware because even though I own the game, my New 2DS I was playing it on has a large spot of screen damage on the top screen.)
If DDD let us play as Neku and the other pin party members it would have been a million times better

I love Dream Drop Distance so much, my favorite out of all of them. I didn't know who Neku and friends were until Dream Drop and when I got into The World Ends With You, I think it's so cool and the music slaps so I love seeing them even more lol
TWEWY was such a classic with unique gameplay that not many gave a chance but honestly more people should and play it. There's even a mobile version that i think has easier controls designed for mobile touch screens but it doesn't beat the original in uniqueness with the NDS double screens. The story is really good tho and should be a JRPG fan's favorite more people should definitely play it and the sequel Neo: TWEWY
The thing about Leon in KH is that Squall was his name but when Radiant Garden originally, he changed his name, and his design is based on a beta concept for Squall
I loved TWEWY's inclusion in KHDDD but one thing that stood up to me was how nice Joshua was compared to how he is in TWEWY.

you know? I assumed Joshua had held their entries fees, Shiki's appearance, Rhyme's love (and memories) of Beat, Rhyme herself and Rhyme's dreams were all clearly taken in kh3d. As for Neku? Which week's fees? Rhyme was a noise in the latter weeks and aside from her, there were no other "players" sharing Traverse Town with Neku. Similarly Beat was split across Dreams far and away from Rhyme, so his second week's entry fee was also "paid."
Despite what Nomura says i strongly believe that the Twewy gangs will appear again in kh4 or another quadratum game.
do we also need to mention... TWEWY WAS ONLY ONE GAME ON DS ... OUT OF 40 GAMES SQUARE ENIX MADE FOR THE CONSOLE...

just one game...and thats all we had as twewy fans
they go above and beyond to represent that game so greatly to the point they even made one of the best rpg games on switch later on, especially for the people who follows the series

TWEWY was treated far better than *most* Final Fantasy characters. The only argument I can make for FF characters being treated well is for Cloud and Sephiroth. Not many people have noticed it but KH2 marks the beginning of what can be considered the start of Sephiroth's meta awareness of himself and Cloud.
KH2 was dropped 2 months after Advent Children. In kh2, the FFVII cast had their appearances from AC. All except Sephiroth, he has his KH1 outfit but now with the bottom wings of his Safer form which is his Omnipresent form. When the KH cast find Cloud again, Cloud acts like someone would if he didn't recognize them. Possibly because he has no memory of them. say he looks "kinda different" to where Cloud retorts "if he does, then it's his (Sephiroth) fault." Which wouldn't make sense unless Sephiroth was a plastic surgeon, a tailor and a barber, or Sephiroth has meta control over his and Cloud's story. Hell, when he sees Aerith its like he's seen a ghost. He cant even look at her and jump to say that he doesnt want her involved. He acts like he was tossed into the middle of a story he doesnt understand and tries to play it off. Cloud claims Sephiroth is the dark half of his heart. Sephiroth has knowledge of Cloud's thoughts. He claims that wherever Cloud goes, he will always be called back to him.
Ya see, KH2 came out right in the middle of the FFVII compilation. A compilation of which was originally intended to end with a "Remake" of FFVII. That remake would continue to run into several pre-production delays for years. We got a small concept in a tech demo for ps3 but ultimately went quiet. It is until the FFVII REMAKE was finally announced. A "remake" of which is the story of Sephiroth having meta knowledge and control over the story and events of the game until he eventually gains the powers of fate itself.
Sound familiar?
This Omnipresent consciousness even followed shortly into Smash bros where he shows up and one shots a god level threat, all simply because of where Cloud goes, he follows just to give him despair.
When I first played Dream Drop Distance back in 2018 on emulator, I had no idea about who the TWEWY characters were and thanks for a guy playing the game on youtube I figured out the characters' game title. I am not a fan of those types of games nor ever play on nintendo devices yet I did play "The World Ends With You" using an emulator as well
Thank you! I don't see near enough people pointing out that the characters aren't the characters from their own worlds, these are counterparts born in the KH universe.
The best example I can give?
Donald freaking Duck. Donald has always been portrayed as having a bit of a Daffy/Bugs rivalry with Mickey.

In the KH universe he is ABSOLUTELY loyal to King Mickey. Like, take a bullet for him loyal. His temper as well, in that in other iterations of the character, was a lot more volatile. It's still there, true, but muted.
DDD (at least the demo lol) was my introduction to TWEWY back in late 2015. When I first heard Twister and saw the designs of the character, I was hooked, though I wasn't that interested the game besides Joshua cuz I really like prissy characters aha. (Also his va was the same as Onion Knight in Dissidia so lmao) I think one time me and my mom went to GameStop and found the TWEWY cartridge. I bought, knowing absolutely dick all about the game premise besides the main characters. Basically I was going through this game blind. When I boot up the game itself and saw Neku's opening monologue, it really resonated with me and it lingered throughout my playthrough of the game. TWEWY really meant a lot to me as a teenager going through the hell that was middle school and I was able to escape it through this game (and also RWBY and Hatsune Miku lol). I related to Neku so much and... man I love this game. I'm so glad DDD gave us these characters who were represented very well in the game, otherwise I wouldn't find TWEWY and fall in love with it and the sequel. (Which fun fact I actually beat yesterday)
Also, I'm sorry for my humor being nonexistent, but Joshua hanging on an E the credits (at 20:49) made me laugh for no reason lol

It's already been confirmed that TWEWY's Shibuya is not gonna appear in KH4, but Nomura didn't say they won't have another chance to appear so at some point we could see Neku and the crew again
@@taffmeister584 thats wrong, the exact wording was that the shibuya we saw is “not the same shibuya”, which can mean alot of things, and either way they fucking better be in kh4 since its already been 10 years of waiting since 3D

I personally think it's going to be a different version of the TWEWY gang. Like Cloud and the FF gang are different from the FF series.

My mother actually gifted me an OG copy of TWEWY around the time it came out because she was told its very similar to KH. Was a good time.
I knew TWEWY before DDD, but not the game. I had a set of the pins from the game. Used to play tin pin. I had no idea it was a video game until DDD though, so it did help there.
I learned of TWEWY from my cousin playing it, and I loved it. Mainly I loved playing as a makeshift player 2, specifically as the girl with the cat.

Future title maybe they should use the cast from neo we could still see neku and the others too but I think it would be cool if we saw rindo fret and nagi and they were the main focus
In Kingdom Hearts III, there is a very blunt reference to Neo: The World Ends With You. The 104 Building looks strickingly similar in design and Nomura basically said that you should probably play Neo: TWEWY before Kingdom Hearts III. No, characters appear in Kingdom Hearts III from Neo. It appears in the base game the DLC, ReMIND.
10:09 I get it's not a perfect translation, but I think that makes sense. The crew have clearly gone through *some* version of their canon character development, so Neku wouldn't throw Sora under the bus entirely just to get back. But if he thought it came at no risk to Sora he probably would, even if it's a bad idea.
I thought the crossover between TWEWY and Kingdom hearts was good also I think Sora did visit Neku and his friends it was during the end of DDD were Sora went off to do something and he was away for a long time like through all the Birth by Sleep a fragmentary Passage to the end Ansem’s the beginning of Kingdom hearts 3 were he returns were Donald and Goofy ask what he was doing which Sora said it was a secret because it was the promise he made his new friends so sora may have visit Their Shibuya offscreen.

I think it's that Rhyme can't access those dreams, only Joshua can.

I do believe that the KH Twewy cast are actually from the waking world was you said around the 15:00 mark, as they do promise to see Sora and Riku again after stepping through what I think is a portal iirc. I need to replay DDD to figure out what the green glow was at the end of the second visit to traverse town.

actually no kingdom hearts is not the greatest crossover that would be street fighter ryu is uncrowned king of crossovers. Ryu has been in rpg game, shooter game, fighting game, movies, anime, and manga.

Neku was supposed to be much older in NEO than he was in TWEWY. I think it was roughly seven or so years had passed since TWEWY, with Neku stuck in Shinjuku because of the events of the actual ending of the Switch remake.

FF and other Square IPs need to not only actually show up in KH, but also have a prominent story role (some characters should have equal plot significance as major Disney characters).
Missed opportunities left and right, especially going forward with the possibility of Star Wars and Marvel being added.
Just needs to be written well enough. Crossover stories should be easy wins especially with the financial backing of Disney.

Aw, DDD wasn't that bad. Could have done without the arbitrary yet totally mandatory Fauxkemon battle mechanic, but I thought the drops were fun, and the story ironically funny because the Mark of Mastery exam went from "Terra. Aqua. Hit ball to pass test." To "Sora. Riku. Go save seven worlds."

I disagree in its entirety.... teyw is a very underrated but sadly true unknown game among common people..hardly anyone knows about it...yes the ones that know of it mostly like it..but still reality is...about 4 out of 10 gaming friends only heard of it. While the other 6 never even seen previews of it. Twewy is a great game and i had a good time playing it..but your reasons its "the best cross over" is little far reaching imo.
